    Hi Ladies,

I just Googled Harry S Truman homecoming images.  It gives you a good idea of what people wear and has photography images where you can find a local photographer for those who are interested.   I really hope I can make it.  Feeling excited.

  • Jacob94mom

Love the emblem! Now to print and make it sturdy to wear. :)
We will be arriving the day before as well. Staying at the Hampton Inn (I think) Navy base Norfolk.- it may have a decent lobby?? We are planning to go to the meet and greet as well.
Need to get started on my poster. I wasn't going to do one but have changed my mind. :)

I printed the emblem, it's great. Now like Jacob94mom said I will make it sturdy to wear.  I am staying at the Quality Inn off base.  My flight comes in the day before in the early evening so I will have to find some one to give me info since she did not put me on the list and I can't get any info.  So I will play it by ear when I arrive.  Thanks for the emblem.  One day closer :)

  • DonnaEricsMom

My son's dad is going to try an make it to the homecoming, but he doesn't seem to have any information.  I know when and that he'll need to be on the list to enter, but can someone PM me with any other info he might need (if it can't be posted here)?  I'm unable to go, so hopefully my Ex can.  Thanks for any help.

  • JackRussellMom

I'm  staying at the Quality Inn Navy Base. So here's a stupid question. I  can stay at that hotel right? I mean I don't think they would of booked me there if I needed to have a military ID to stay there. Just need to make sure cause I'm driving all the way from New York the day before and I hate to have any problems.

  • happycamper

Are shorts appropriate attire to watch the ship arrive. It is going to be so hot.
  • letyrod24

JackRussellMom- I'm staying at Quality Inn Navy Base as well.  Booked through Hotels.com Didn't see anything about a military ID. So hopefully we are fine. Flying in from Chicago the night before. There is quite a few moms staying there.

Brandi:  I'm in Central Texas.  Where are you?

  • 1Bodyprof

We are staying at the Quality Inn Norfolk Naval Base.  Look forward to seeing a lot of you there!

Bernapet:  I printed my emblem you designed and hope to see others!  Thanks for doing that.

  • Bernapet

Thanks 1bodyprof7...I'm staying there too so hope to meet you. I met some moms at PIR that lived through it all with me, and that was very cool! Can't wait to see that ship, how exciting!
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

happycamper - I would think shorts would be fine as long as they are tasteful!  It will probably be like PIR - some will be dressed up more than others.  Comfort is key since you could be waiting around for a while and yes, it will most likely be hot & humid!

  • happycamper

Awesome B'sNukeMom. Thanks for your input. It will be a long hot day I am afraid. I will be there with toddlers, and I believe their daddy will be one of the last off. Eek.
  • Redsmom

Traditionally the married/parents get off before the single sailors.  Yes, I've done some research!  Hahaha!  So I'm expecting to have one of the last ones off.  I did a youtube of previous homecomings and people were dressed nicely and comfortably.  The Quality Inn was sold our by the time I got around to making reservations so I'm about 5 miles away.  I'd love to meet up with y'all for a bit the evening before.

  • Carol Ann

The Nukes will be the last off the ship. It will take about 3 hours from the time they start coming off.

  • jbird

    Hi everyone, welcome new members-

I was making a list for Norfolk and thought of these 2 things that might be helpful to some of you. Binoculars! I wish I'd have had a pair at PIR but some nice people shared theirs which was really helpful. Also a spray bottle of water to spritz with in case it's super hot out. Oh and sunscreen. If anyone has any other ideas please share. I like the umbrella idea too.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Binoculars are a great idea jbird!

  • kdshow

Most information that I have gotten regarding homecoming has came from this group.  I am now a bit confused.  It was mentioned that a small soft cooler was allowed.  So, are we also allowed to have some sort of bag to carry our necessities, such as sunscreen, hats, meds, umbrella...etc?

  • connorsmom

    Are chairs allowed?
  • JackRussellMom

Any ideas on how we are to wear the sign that Bernapet made? It was pretty large when I printed it. I was thinking of maybe shrinking it a bit and making it into a the size of a name badge and pinning it on me. I'd like to know what everyone else is doing with it.

  • Brandi

JackRussellMom -I was thinking about making it into a sticker.

  • Bernapet

Hi JackRussellMom, I created the badge to print at a 3"X 2", and I was going to glue mine to white card stock, and pin it on. Smaller will definitely work too.
  • DonnaEricsMom

About the badge for homecoming . . . if you have a local print shop (like office depot or staples) they should be able to sell you a sheet of card stock paper that you can print directly onto for the badge.  Save yourself a step of gluing it onto the card stock.  Sometimes they even have colored card stock.

  • 1Bodyprof

I shrank it a little and will mod podge it to cardboard and put ribbon behind it like I did for PIR. will post pic when done

  • JackRussellMom

So many good ideas! thanks! :)

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Thursday.  I saw this posted by a FB friend and thought I would share!

connorsmom - chairs are allowed.  They just said keep in mind that it will be crowded...I heard there are some bleachers too but I'm sure it's first come first served!

kdshow - yes a small bag is allowed to carry your stuff.

  • Bernapet

    Nice idea 1Bodyprof!
  • connorsmom

    Thank you
  • 1Bodyprof

Just got an email from my sailor...first one in a month : (

He asked someone months ago about the list and was told there was no list so guess what?  we're not on the list

He said today he asked a Chief and they said yes there was and cutoff was a couple of weeks ago.

I'm one VERY disappointed mom.  Now looking for a place where we can watch the ship and not be on the pier.  Anyone have an idea?

  • 1Bodyprof

B'sNukeMom:  I have seen that before and LOVE IT!!  How true!

  • Jacob94mom

Are any of you putting your sailors last name on posters or banners? For PIR we were told not to. What about now?
I shrunk my badge to about 4inches and put it on sticker paper. I will weatherize it some how too.
    This is getting real ladies!
  • connorsmom

My son said we were on the list back in November, we were not, so hoping he put us on the list this time. He told me he gave our names to the person who was supposed to put us on the list, so just hoping. We watched the ship leave from Fort Monroe, it was a beautiful spot. I may be back there if I am not on the list.
  • letyrod24

1Bodyprof-Sorry to hear about not being on the list but hopefully someone has some ideas.
Jacob94mom-I had a banner made only with my son's first name. Hope that's not an issue.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

1Bodyprof - sorry to hear that :(  I had posted this before up above in the deployment discussion.  If you don't get on base definitely try Ft. Monroe.

I found this link for Ft. Monroe - has directions, etc.

    Hope this helps!

O.k. I went to Michaels craft store and they have plastic buttons just the right size for the emblem. Any craft store will have them.  I just cut it out and inserted it inside.  I can't show it because the file comes up too big.  It was only $1.99 for 3 buttons.  I can make the other 2 and bring them in case some can't make one.

  • Bernapet

    Sheis22...great idea, I'm going today!
  • Redsmom

I wish I'd asked about the emblem.  A button is a great idea!  I was just at the hobby store!  Well, back I go!  I made a USN wreath for the door to use 4th of July through "Welcome Home!" Yeah!  I'm getting more excited by the day.  Tempering the excitement is going to be house cleaning today!  Not-so-yeah!!!  Haha!

  • Bernapet

Redsmom...can you share a pic of your wreath. I'd love to try to do that! It's a great idea.
  • Redsmom

I'd love to but seem to be having technical problems getting image to this site!  Might have to wait until hubby gets home!

  • JGMom

1Bodyprof, I'm sorry to hear you are not on the list.... I would love to see the wreath too.  Great idea!

    Happy Friday everyone!

  • Devinsmom

1bodypof I am making the trip to see my son I am also not on the list. We was not sure we would be able to make but thanks to answered prayers we are. Maybe we meet up at the place that someone talked about and watch the ship come in there together.
  • jbird

B'sNuke-just saw the thing about the mountains, I love that

  • 1Bodyprof

Devinsmom:  Would love to meet up!  Either Ft. Walton or Sarah Constant Beach Park on Hwy 60.  We can be in the water cooling off and waving while they cruise by : )

We are staying at Quality Inn.  How 'bout you?  Coming with my husband and older son.  You traveling with family?

    Getting closer ladies!!!!!!

  • Redsmom

What did you see about mountains?

  • 1Bodyprof

    oops!  Devinsmom thats Ft. Monroe!

  • jbird

It was B'snuke's post from a day or so ago about God creating the mountains etc.. It's cute

  • JackRussellMom

I found the buttons for the emblem at Micaels! Thanks! I have extra too, so if anyone wants one, please let me know.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

The FRG just posted some updates on FB regarding homecoming.  You can see this even if you are not a member of FB.

    https://www.facebook.com/TrumanFRG

Connorsmom - it addresses the chair situation and now it says "no folding chairs" and bleachers are available.  I thought that in one of the FB groups someone had said small chairs were allowed....not sure now :(

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Oh - and Happy Friday all!
