I just read through it better and no chairs are allowed. They say there will be bleacher seating and there will be areas reserved for those with disabilities. Hope this helps!
Thank you B's Nuke Mom for the info. on the chairs. I will have my mom in a wheelchair and we will do whatever needs to be done. My son is also a nuke, so anticipating a long day.
connorsmom- we went to the last homecoming and I have a wheelchair also. We brought my handicap mirror hanging thing and we were able to park in the handicap zone right up Front- as close as you can get. Our son is also a nuke and it was a very long wait but we could get back to our car to rest easily.
That is so good to know, Bigmama! Our sailor's grandmother is determined to come to see the ship come in - her hubby was an officer long ago. If she really comes, I will need to have her use her wheelchair. Glad to know we can park reasonably and that I can get her in the "viewing" area without trying to get her in a wheelchair up a bunch of steps to the pier! Thank you for that encouraging information!!!
Ursula - the homecoming packet says not to arrive before 6am. I'm guessing there will be lines and a bit of a wait to get through the gates & security.
FIRST LADY you won't get a welcome packet unless you are on the FRG list and it's too late. Just ask around when you arrive, there will be plenty of people with info. and people will direct you. One day closer!
Happy 4th to all. So proud of all our sailors who keep our freedoms available to all of us. Happy they have changed "oceans" and bodies of water again on their trek home. Yeah!! Almost there. Thanks for everyone who gave me support and information throughout this ride. I truly appreciate it.
Ditto to that BoomMon! Last year on the 4th, my sailor was in boot. I just cried all day! This year, although I miss him sooo much...I am just bursting with pride. We have such a fantastic group of kids. We did good moms! So proud of them! Have a great day, see you all soon!
On the last deployment, you had to be on the same "list" that allows you to get on base for the actual homecoming. They do a photo ID check at the gate and it seemed like forever to get in. It was in a clubhouse at the end of the pier and was really lovely. It was crowded but very nice. The appetizers were great! Lots of hot ones and gourmet cupcakes. I'll never forget that everything was served on beautiful china with navy emblems trimmed in gold ( we are kind of the paper plate crowd). They had USS Truman stuff for sale and tables with different navy support groups available. We thought if was definitely worth going to. It was sponsored by the FRG wives, I believe, but I am not sure if it is the same for each deployment.
What do we need to know about getting on base for the return of the USS Truman? My son is on there ( temporarily since Feb). He said he put our name on the list to get on base but we know nothing else. Gait? Rules?
Here's the link again for the Truman FRG FB page. Remember, you don't have to be a member to see this page.

Hope everyone had a nice 4th of July. My guys were all in Boston so they got to see the Boston Pops Firework show last night. I talked to them this morning & they said it was pretty awesome. They went to a couple baseball games too so that was nice! Can't wait to hear all about their trip
Pitbullboys - they won't release the time until the date is closer.....from what I hear it also depends on tides....and don't forget the time difference - they are 3 hours ahead of me!
1bodyprof....love the pin! I better get busy on mine. My sailor earned his airman weapons wings yesterday and he was elated! Man I'm getting excited! Hope to meet some of you ladies!
The pin is great 1bodyproof! I'm rather jealous lol - my husband printed mine and it's about 5 or 6 inches. I had some sticker paper and used that.
I'm trying to talk hubby into leaving a day sooner. I'm not having much luck (yet) lol
B'nuke so glad your "boys" had a great guy weekend!
My sailor says he's trying to get as much sleep as he can to pass the time. He is on nights now. He also passed on manning the rails. I was disappointed. He said he will be up 24 hours BF doesn't want to fall asleep standing there so long. Oh well..
Soon ladies! Soon!
