Not sure what happened with the live streams - there were three trucks form different channels on the pier. They did call all media to the new dads tent once the ship was in.
There are a couple replays and a YouTube video on Face book. BNuke maybe you can post the links ??
Not techy enough. :(
Another hot one here- we are headed to Jmestown. My husbands ancestry had a boat company there.
Sea*mom - oh man that sucks for your son :( Just let him know that the right girl is still out there for him. I know it doesn't help his broken heart right now but in time he will feel better. Better to find out now that it wasn't going to work than later when they had more invested in the relationship. My son had a breakup with a long-time (6yr) GF when he first joined the Navy - took him a long while to heal his heart and to be willing to open up & love someone again, but he has found a gal that really makes him happy (and she was Navy too!). It can happen....
JGMom - woohoo! Glad you heard from you sailor and all is well. Hope you get that visit soon <3
Jacobmom - i'll take a look around and see what I can find and post! Have fun visiting in VA! Try to stay cool lol!
On the links I posted for the Virginian Pilot - there are 2 different videos within the same link - make sure you look at both of them. One is 11 facts about deployment and the other is the homecoming footage from yesterday.
Same video - different article - posted by the Stars & Stripes: Seems like everyone is using Virginian Pilot's live stream as it appears to be the only one that was up! (That's the one I watched live too.)
I went ahead and posted the video in the Truman Deployment discussion above. I actually posted it in my original discussion (at the bottom) - not in the comment section. That way it will stay where everyone can see it and you won't have to scroll through pages of discussion to find it lol!
Hi!! Back home now but I think I left my heart down in Norfolk. What an incredible experience. It was soooooooo awesome to put faces to the names: tootallJoan, Navy mom2, jacobsmom, redsmom, onebodyprof, juliez...who am I missing?? TTJ I was on the top of the bleachers and saw you walking, looked like you were on a mission towards the other end of the pier! Everyone I met from here was so friendly, I wish I could have met more. Is there a place to see all the pictures taken?
B'sNuke-you should consider becoming part of navyformom's officially, you're very helpful. So the navy live feed never even happened?? UGH! Frustrating but at least there was the pilot. I watched that last night, thank God we have that to look back on. I just hope the families back home were able to watch that live. Sea*mom- your son deserves better than that, I'm so sorry. He'll cross paths with a new and special girl I'm sure, he'll be much happier down the road too.
CarolAnn- Would love to have you pop in and "visit" ok? I think it would be hard to leave all together. I know seasons change but I know I'll be sad to not have that connection anymore via my sailor son which won't be long now. Change can be hard..
jbird: Thank you for being so kind. Appreciate that. My son gives me heck when I tell him something I saw about Truman on FB or this site. He says Mom I haven't been in for over 2 years now why are you still "stalking" the Truman?!? I told him just like him I feel I have made some connections and friendships and still feel a pull towards the Truman. (After all he was in for 6 years.) I said you still keep up with friends from the Navy, why can't I? He said Mom you never met any of them. Actually I did meet some from his first deployment at meet and greet and pier at Homecoming. The 2nd one he wasn't first leave off ship, so we didn't go and just waited til he had 2nd leave & came home. He doesn't get how we Moms have bonded. I do know less and less of you from that time and feel a little weird being on here, but do try to check in every now and then. I just wanted to follow you all til you got bk to port safe and sound. So very happy for you all and did watch the live feed (what little they showed) on my lunch hour and was crying tears of happiness for you all. Guess once a Truman Mom always a Truman Mom!
CarolAnn-So well said, I feel exactly like you do. There's something about that common bond we share as Truman moms. You can't explain it unless you are one. So many moms in the world but how many are Truman moms? Right? 7 years since enlisting, where did that time go? It would be hard to just walk away from here.
jbird: Thanks for "getting me". The time DID fly by and I miss those days. Whenever I see a sailor in uniform (which doesn't happen very often here in OH) I still feel the kinship and pride to the Navy and to all those who serve and I suppose I always will. Never completely got the military and the sacrifices that are and have been made by those who serve until I became a Navy Mom and experienced it first hand. Guess that's why I still feel close to you all. We definitely share a bond and no one else really completely gets it unless they have experienced it too. You are all such a special group of women and I guess that's why I am still attached. Love seeing all the picts on FB of all the happy reunions and remember how I felt all so well
Carol ann thank you for all your input and advice. I really appreciate all the help here and when my sailor was in boot camp. So happy for all those who were able to go and see their sailors return. I am looking forward to seeing my son soon. I will stay with this group and check in with everyone now and then. Take care everyone!
JCMom: Thanks. I do think it's nice when Moms stay on here cuz it helps the newbies with their questions. If I hadn't received advice when I didn't understand something or didn't know something it would have made my time as an official Navy Mom all that much harder. That is why this support group was started and why it continues to thrive because of the older/experienced Moms in the group and their advice. And not to knock on the new Moms either as they have also taught me a thing or two.
Glad to see everyone enjoying their time with their sailors!! Or getting ready to enjoy their time in some cases....
jbird - I'm actually one of the admins on the nuke mom group and my son is out now lol! Like Carol Ann said it's hard to just walk away - this has been a big part of my life for so many years now that I feel like we are all family <3 And I've been lucky enough to meet a few of my Navy mom's over the years too!
It's sad though that Navy for Moms is in limbo right now. They aren't adding new members & there have been issues with the ad group overseeing it. Hopefully they'll get things figured out soon!
B'snuke-ah! Not surprised to hear you are already involved. What do you mean about N4moms being in limbo??? and what about not admitting new members? I see a new member here today... guess I don't understand
The members you are seeing are people that have already joined N4M previously but just hadn't joined a specific group. They have not been letting new members join N4M since I think April - they did have one day where the admins came on & let people join but then that was it...They were taken over by a new advertising agency and there have been some issues :( frustrating to say the least.
Well I certainly hope that this site doesn't go away and that it continues on. It has been the best one for me! Not gonna be so good if new members are not permitted to join it though....
WHAT??? You mean if you have a son or daughter in the navy and you hadn't signed up for N4mom's before April you're out of luck??? That's horrible! What can we do?? Anyone we can contact? I can't imagine all this time without this, what would I do? You prob don't know specifics, do you B'snuke? I wonder if it's an opsec issue or what. What a shame to lose this.
There's actually another mom on here - Marcy - that has been in contact with the company that runs the site. Long story short, one company was handling it and then it switched over to another.....there are issues and I guess the navy isn't providing funding for it like they used to. Marcy has been reaching out to the company and has a contact person that has been giving her some info - but not a lot. We've been pm'ing each other and I just sent Marcy another message asking for the latest update. Hopefully she has more news. I don't think Tiffany is the N4M admin anymore - it's someone else now and I can't ever get a response.....one of the problems is they say there's too many members and no room for more. There's lots of members who are no longer active (and I mean for a # of years now) but I guess if they delete them it deletes all their info - meaning anything they have posted which could be some valuable info. So there's things to figure out....
ah ok, gotcha B'snuke. I actually sent a message to the administrator and I bet that's her. I saw a title of a discussion about prospective members. Hi Ladies, I love seeing the photos! My son is doing well and happy to be back on base. Enjoying some leave time now. Hope to see him in Oct or possibly before if I get a chance to get out to Virginia. Take care everyone.
okay i was finally able to get my pic up. I just wanna say it was a pleasure meeting all of you. What a great group of people on met on this trip! 1Bodyprof, Thank you for taking me under your wing when I first came down and making me feel not so alone. sheis22, it was wonderful meeting you! God bless you all and Thank you Thank you for this site where we can all get together with one purpose in mind, the love of our Sailor!
JackRussellMom I was so happy to meet you. Sorry to all that I did not make the meet and greet, I got in later than expected and did not have a car. I love all the pics. I did hand out one pin to whoever forgot theirs at home and did not get her name. Great surprise for my daughter from her brother that lives in New York. All and all a great trip. Headed back to California today.
Hoping everyone returned home safely and got some rest. So thankful and grateful that I got to see where my sailor works. It put my worries to rest. The NAVY really does take good care of our sailors. :) I got to help him move into his first apt too. YAY! Now, back to reality but he'll be home in a few weeks for a visit. Everyone have a great week...
It was great to meet you jbird & Navymom2. Wish I could have met more of you.
My sailor was back to work today for both duty & watch. We only stayed in VA the day of homecoming to allow her & her husband time to reconnect. She had an amazing 4 days with her husband. She will be home next Friday for mom/dad time.
Made it home safe and sound! My one else drive out Sunday? The traffic was crazy! Had a great time. We went to Jamestown and Va. Beach.
We spent most of Saturday waiting for my sailors housing paperwork and keys. He will live on the ship until he comes home and buys a truck in two weekS.
It was awesome meeting he other moms and yes, that's me on the far right. :)
Prayers for our police and military. A mom on the Facebook page said her MA son was threatened at the gate yesterday.
Three days home hen back in the road to Myrtle Beach. Trading my navy mom shirts for cheerleader Nana shirt!
My husband is about to finish training but will be with the USS Harry S. Truman once he gets to the fleet. So I have a couple of questions about deployment. Was it fairly difficult to communicate while you're loved ones were deployed? And also since they just got back about how long will it be until the ship deploys again? Just a general time frame. My husband said about 14 months.. Thank you!
Talked to my son yesterday - he said the weather in Virginia is miserable right now - very hot & humid (which is normal for this time of year!). We are getting the heat here in SoCal right now too, but thankfully ours is a dry heat lol! He said he was at the homecoming last week & there were even a few people that passed out from the heat. Yikes!
Glad you made it home safe & sound Jacobmom! I too saw the FB story about the MA that was threatened at the gate. What is wrong with people these days?!
Kelsie my son said the Bush is getting ready for the next deployment (the Ike replaced the Truman). The Truman will do any repairs needed from this deployment and then they'll be getting ready for whenever the next deployment is. Remember not to discuss specific dates!
Your husband will have his Navy email and you'll be able to email him on deployment. He won't always respond right away but eventually he will get them. Also when they are in areas where they have wifi you can use different apps to chat. WhatsApp is a good one - that's what my son & I used. I know there are others too....

Safe travels to Myrtle Beach Jacobmom!
