Good morning Ladies: into my 2nd week seems like it should be work 4 or 5 hope the time is going faster for my son, Thanksgiving will be hard we have a big family and I know that he will miss it alot,At least once Christmas gets here it is only a matter of days to see him. We are driving and if he decides to not come home after PIR I think we will take his gifts with us then bring them home after he opens them. We are praying with you on no snow to.
  • Michelle02

Great words momhousedivided2-sh 09 Div 023 what a priviledge to be a American.
  • ArNavyMom

A very close friend of mine made "prayer cards" for me and the ladies in our church as well as a handful of others. (family, friends and strangers!)  I pray this prayer for my son and for every recruit that will be graduating on 12/29/11.

    Dear Lord,

Give ________ the wisdom to lead, and the humility to follow. Grant him the dedication to work untiringly for his country, its people and our freedom. Teach him to be the best he can be, for himself and for others around him. Fill him with the strength, the courage, and the willingness to do the job he's called to do. Help him to believe in truth, speak out for justice, defend the flag and uphold the American ideals that make our country the wonderful land that it is. In Jesus name Amen.

  • Michelle02

Does anyone have any info on graduation pictures? Can we pre-pay for them now, I can't seem to find out. I don't want to really send my son a check. guess I will have to call them
  • diannep

Wonderful, ArNavyMom.  Pray for protection for them too...not just worldly protection, but spiritual protection from a world that can be so evil and attacking on them.  My son just told me a few days ago that he bets he has only met about 7 Chrisitans since being stationed 1.5 years.  I told him it is more likely that others are Christians, but aren't speaking out about their faith because society tells them it is "uncool" to be a Christian in this "fallen" times.  May the Lord strengthen our children in their faith, and may they be living examples of the Lord's love for each of them...a witness to those around them!

Batmansmom:  It is so hard to know to feel their absence especially at holiday time (my sailor has missed 2 Thanksgivings, but I'm joining him in VA this year)...the empty chair is hard.  But...to know that they are moving on in a good way, with a military job, being mentored, growing up, learning...albeit away from home...might help a little.  I know it is especially hard on those of you whose SRs are very young.  Mine was 23 when he left and had lived away from home before, so it wasn't as traumatic.  Still --he had moved back home for 10 mos while in DEP before leaving...and was around alot.  So I had gotten used to that...even though sometimes we were at each other's throats!  Too much free time for anyone is not a good thing!  HA!

Praying for comfort for those this holiday season who are missing their SRs!

    Good morning, all!

  • Batmansmom531

Such wonderful, faithful, loving moms... Your words provide comfort to me. My son turned 20 and was gone 6 days later. He was the chauffer for my husband when he was too sick to drive (his dad has a traumatic brain injury from an accident) he helped his 6 year old brother with homework and read to his 2 year old nephew who lovingly calls him "toe" instead of tio (spanish for uncle) I pray that our Lord covers them and shields them from the many evils.

As for pictures---our SRs will be given the opportunity to purchase them as well as the video around week 5 I was told. They should pick package A its the best package for the $$. That way they will have them for graduation, if we order them it can take 2-4weeks. The photos will make nice post holiday gifts !
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Good Morning everyone, Beautiful prayer ArNavyMom :-)

I will be in and out today. I am busy working on ribbon orders and my oldest son is home for a couple of days from Charlotte and he and I are finally going to install my back splash in the kitchen. I am so luck to have a son with so many talents. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and is starting to adjust to the new time. It it great in the mornings but I get so sleepy in the evenings way before bedtime lol. Have a great day :-)

  • diannep

I bumped up the Photo discussion above for those who want to read it.
  • Michelle02

Talked to a nice man Bob at the photo lab, they cannot be pre-paid, but our sons are able to purchase them with there $ card, he suggested that we let them know now what you want to order the prices are still the same $140 for pkg A DVD $29.or you can pay for them after graduation, he said easier to have them take care of it before though.

  • ilovemysailor 009/021

I have a question about the bank accounts SRs set up while at bootcamp. If they did not have an account with any bank before they went, i assume they will set one up correct? Will they be given a debit card or anything of the like? or is the money just put into an account while they are there and they have to order card when they get out?

Thank you for any info :)

  • Rosalinda(MAA MAMA)

Hello ladies just got my nephews #'s he is Ship 09 DIV 023 hope to get to meet more from this group, and i currently also have a son stationed in WA he is MAA..
  • ArNavyMom

@ Veteran Mom's/Wife - my son's gf joined to be a member on this site yesterday.  She still has not been "approved".  Is there somewhere or someone we can check status?  Her member name is "Navygirlfriend12".  THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
  • Michelle02

welcome  Roslinda  this site will give you alot of information. My son is in ship09 div 024 I think they might be neighbors...Michelle
  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

I searched you son's GF and nothing came up...it can actually take a little while for some to be approved...don't know why. Hope it is soon.
  • Michelle02

arnavymom it took me a few days to get approved thought I was lost in the system to.
  • ArNavyMom

@ FTLW and Michelle - thank you.  I will let her know.  I'm sure with the new year approaching and all those new recruits - families are signing up.  (much like me when my son told us he was enlisting back in January!)

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

Every TG has "brother" divisions. They train together, house in the same ship (except that females and males are of course housed separately) and go through BS together. They are also in the Keel book together.

Brother Div for this group are:

    21-22

    23-24

    25-26

    27-28

900 divisions usually do not ahve a brother div...but this one will! 904-906

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

    Good afternoon ladies.

FTLW's, thanks for passing on the info.  I have been fighting a cough/cold and last night I took a Nyquil and found out that those thing really knock you out!  I didn't even wake up today until 11:30a.m.  I'm just glad that Monday is the day that my husband works from home, or my poor dog would have been crossing her legs for hours.  lol

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

You are welcome Betsy! I hope you feel better soon! Nyquil has alcohol in it! That's why it knocks you out! Best stuff when you need the relief...and the sleep. Sleep is the best thing when you are sick anyways...the same hormone that helps you grow when you are little is what helps you recover from illnesses when you grow up! At least that's what my pediatrician said!

I have a touch of the stomach flu (going around...bleh) but it's Monday and gotta update and get the next PIR group going!

See you ladies...have a great day!

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

FTLW, I'm sorry that you are feeling badly too.  ((Hugs))  I guess it's that time of year again.  I hope you feel better soon too.
  • diannep

Michelle:  If the SR orders Pkg A, it comes with a "free" Keel (yearbook).  If you order Pkg A after PIR, I was told that the free Keel is not included.

ilovemysailor:  My son had an account here with a local bank before he left, but I told him to go ahead and set up a Navy Fed account when arriving at RTC, which he did.  After bootcamp, he closed the local bank account.  They set up their bank accounts during the processing days before training starts.

  • diannep

Feel better, Betsy and FTLW!  I don't like taking any meds...especially ones with alcohol in them (teetotaler her so don't care for any alcohol products! ).  But hope you both are on the mend!  Vitamin C, lots of it, is very good for fighting off "things!"  The excess will pass out of your system, so it is ok to take.
  • diannep

    HERE, not "her"
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Thanks diannep, my husband is heading to the store, so I will ask him to also pick some Vitamin C for me.
  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

Me either actually dianne...Nyquil is the "drug of choice" as a last resort! LOL Vitamin "C" is the best!
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

I had never taken it before and know now that I won't again.  I felt like a truck ran over me when I woke up this morning.  :(    I think I actually felt worse than if I hadn't taken it
  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

Yeah...the "hangover' is terrible. That's how I usually know I don't need it...if I feel worse the next day!
  • natalie'smom

Hi all, I have a question about parking on the base the day of PIR. I will have my dad with me and he cannot walk too far he has a handicap sign, so my question is, is there parking closer for those who have a handicap sign to hang in the car? Also what about proof of car insurance when you are srving a rental car onto base? Thank you in advance :O)
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

natalie's mom,  You should just be able to show your handicap placard to the guard and they will direct you to the handicapped parking area.  There are also wheelchairs available in the hall, if you need one.

All you will need as far as insurance if you are driving a rental car, is the actual rental car agreement itself.

  • RuthL

Can someone tell me when this gets easier?  I feel great for a few days, than smack!  I am really loooking forward to that first letter.  At least I have Veteran's Day to prepare for with all of Craigs fun facts!

  • natalie'smom

    Thank you Betsy....
  • diannep

Ruth:  It DOES get easier...once the letters start to arrive and the phone calls comein, it does. And it is even better by training week 4 (different than bootcamp week 4...training week 4 is 5-6 weeks after they left). That is the turnaround week for them where they have accomplished alot and realize that they are almost there!  Much more positive comments then, breakdown process is over and the buildup process has begun in the SRs...they feel it and become much more positive!
  • Craig

RuthL - Here is a test you can give your students.  Most people don't know this.  In fact I bet 85% of the Navy veterans don't know this....

    Question:

Where is the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75)  stationed? (there is only one logical answer)

    A. Norfolk VA

    B.  Everett WA

    C. San Diego CA

    D.  Honolulu HI

    Answer: A - Norfolk VA

How do you know this?  It's because all even numbered carriers are on the west coast, and all odd numbered are on the east coast.

CVN-65 Enterprise Home Port : Norfolk, VA.
CVN-68 Nimitz Home Port : Everett, WA.
CVN-69 Dwight D. Eisenhower Home Port : Norfolk, VA.
CVN-70 Carl Vinson Home Port : San Diego, CA.
CVN-71 Theodore Roosevelt Home Port : Norfolk, VA.
CVN-72 Abraham Lincoln Home Port : Everett, WA.
CVN-73 George Washington Home Port : Norfolk, VA.
CVN-74 John C. Stennis Home Port : Bremerton, WA.
CVN-75 Harry S. Truman Home Port : Norfolk, VA.
CVN-76 Ronald Reagan Home Port : San Diego, CA.

Now it's time to see the video about the USS Ronald Reagan

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

RuthL - What age are your kiddos again? I did a research on the ships that the "Ships" at RTC are named for. Someone asked for CVN Numbers and that got me going! I wasn't sure of the ACTUAL ship sometimes...for example there have been five Tritons...so I looked up all that I could! Would you like me to post it...it's kinda fun for us big kids too!

    Great Video Craig!

  • Phil's_mom

I heard when on liberty, they must be in full uniform in public. What about when they are on leave for a few days?
  • momshousedivided2-Sh 09 Div 023

Good info for the meet & greet. Are they Division specific? When I went to our's for our older son last year one of the moms from the mom's site made everyone name tags with their username from our site so we could recognize each other. great way to put faces to names. Our meet & greet was platoon spec. so it was a little easier, but all they same really nice.

    Ok- here's today's funny--

Let a smile be your umbrella...if you want to stand in the rain like a grinning idiot.     - Maxine

I could not resisit a little Maxine this AM.

  • RuthL

FireTeamLeader Wife@ I teach 6th grade.  Any info would be great.  My classes are going through the process with me.

Craig@ Great Trivia question.  It is posted on the board and ready to go for the day!

  • RuthL

Diannep@ Thanks for the encouraging words.  It means alot.

  • diannep

Sailor Mom and Proud:  When they are on leave, they need not be in uniform.  But on liberty after PIR, yes, uniform is required. When they report to A School or duty station, they must be in uniform.

momshousedivided:  The MeetNGreet is for all attending PIR the next day, whether N4Moms members or not.  So you will meet Navy families who have never heard of this site.  DO SHARE!  Can you imagine going through this w/out N4Moms?  Many are very appreciative to find out about this site for their sailor's continuing journey through school and then duty stations. As you all have found out, there is such wonderful support here!

  • diannep

    Ruth, you are very welcome!

    Good morning, everyone!

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Good morning, anyone want to come and grout my kitchen ? lol
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Lala, sounds like fun day planned for you, lol.

Sailor Mom, as diannep said, it's very important that they heed the rule about the uniform while on liberty.  There will be people around the area who will know that they are recent graduates.  They are very easy to spot as their posture and haircut is a dead giveaway, lol.  We went to the mall with my son after PIR and he would even notice the sailors who weren't wearing their uniform properly.  Of course, he didn't say anything, but if he noticed it, then  I'm sure there are higher ups who are out there looking too.

  • Craig

Sailor Mom - Just to clarify Betsy, they are REQUIRED to wear their uniform while on liberty in Great Lakes.  However, because you guys are in the new years group, and they will allow them to go on leave, they DO NOT need to wear their uniform while on leave but they MUST be in a leave status.

The difference? One is liberty, one is leave.  Leave has a totally different set of rules.  However, you will find out that he will wear his uniform while on leave just to show it off.  They love showing the uniform and having people come up to them and thank them for their service.  Especially in towns that don't have many military members in them.

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Some of your sailors, (those staying at GL for A school) may also make the choice to stay at GL, instead of taking leave time to come home.  This was the case with some of the sailors in my son's 12/17/10 PIR.   If this is the case, those sailors will most likely be allowed some liberty during that weekend.  But, as Craig stated, they are required to wear their uniforms while on liberty.  This is yet another scenario that could occur with some of your sailors.
  • RuthL

If my daughter decides to take leave and return home, we then need to make sure she gets to her A school at the porper time correct?  Of course I worry about snow and flight issues, but would love to have her home for a bit.
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

RuthL, Yes, if she is granted leave time, she will be responsible for getting to her A school on time.  My son had to report to A school on 12/28, last year, and he choose a flight that left our hometown on 12/26.  He then had some extra time in the event of delays.
  • Michelle02

Question for anyone to answer if my son decides to come back to NJ for leave, and we fly him back to chicago how does he get from the airport to the Base for A school? do they have transportation for them or maybe a cab. I would like to have this figured out for him so he has some options...Thanks
