This site is for families and friends of Salilor Recruits with PIR THURSDAY, December 29, 2011. This is a great way to share information, concerns and to connect as we continue the journey through bootcamp to PIR and beyond.
@ Betsy - Consider prayer petitioned for travel grace for your husband...to and from Mexico.
Good morning all and FTLW! Love the pictures. My aunt/uncle raise and train border collies. In fact, I was at there house over in Oklahoma this past Friday and Saturday. I LOVE ALL THEIR DOGS! Ellie and Chance are my favorites. (they're old!)
Well...I was vascillating on which video to use today...I am fighting a "humbug" mood as followed up my stomach thing with a small cold. Sons Horse has a bad case of hives (it is seasonal with her...fall/winter...last year she was REAL bad...scary) so giving her dex shots...and to top it off one of our dogs had to have exploratory surgery AGAIN for eating something he couldn't pass! He survived but I am not sure we will 'cuz y'all KNOW how much that costs$!. So, I was going to do "The Grinch" but I think I will wait on that for just plain 'ol fun and play something from my dear hubby's favorite movie, "Scrooge"(If you have not seen the Albert Finney musical version, try too! It is the best Christmas Carol one)...because,
GUESS WHAT? We have a Seabee! Hubby is flying out to see him graduate. He didn't get to go to PIR as he was in Iraq...and we can only afford one of us to go, so I thought it best for him to go. They have not seen each other in a year! It's been six months for me and his bros since PIR. (Again, sooooo thankful for those extra days of liberty!) I am so proud and thankful...so here it is because NOTHING can really steal our Joy!
natalie'smom: I have never heard of one to fail the confidence "gas" chamber. They have to remove their mask and state their name, etc...but they get it done. Not pleasant, but usually a few minutes after they get out of there....coughing with lots of "snot" (sorry!), they are laughing about it because the did it and it's over! So no worries!
Betsy: Remember, I have no hubby here so my house was REALLY quiet with no boys here....I was relieved just to hear my dogs bark for some sound! It does take some getting used to.
Craig my daughter took underwear bra's & 1 white sports bra because she read in the depper list of things to take to boot camp it listed 2 white bra's and 1 white sports bra & underwear. I just checked my " kid in a box" They had my daughters send everything home that she tok with her along with the 2 white bra's and 1 sports bra that is on the list of things for the girls to pack.
I am guessing the provide all of that stuff since it was all sent back home, so I would say not to take any of that stuff otherwise it is more the SR has to send home or donate to charity
Good Morning y'all! Dusting of snow here in NW AR this AM. New puppy DID NOT think it was fun! Little scamp ran right back in a left me a "nice" present on the only rug in my house! UGH!
I too am trying to get used to the "quiet" in the house. Not that my son really stayed at home much after graduation, but knowing that he was around was nice. I think that it will really "hit" me after PIR. right now I still have a ends to a means. Gearing up and making plans for PIR and Christmas and all. Think I will try to find a "new groove'... take a cooking class, book club, something. I had kids young and grandkids can wait a few years sooooo watch out hubby .... hahahahahaha!!
Double- dipping today ( just random thinking )
This nation was built by men who took risks - pioneers who were not afraid of the wilderness, business men who were not afraid of failure, scientists who were not afraid of the truth, thinkers who were not afraid of progress, dreamers who were not afraid of action. ~Brooks Atkinson

ProudMom: He may not have leave, but he should have liberty, right? I made an error in my earlier post to you. I said "cant" take laptops/cells back to A School and meant "can!" Once he has had liberty with you, he can return to GL A School base with those. He should be able to spend Sat/Sun daytime with you, after he moves in on Friday (he will get a little time with you that day too). You just may have to work around any "watch" times he is scheduled for.
Well, that's two people. I guess the old rule of bringing this stuff to boot camp is now out the window. The Navy finally realized that these sailors need this item.
@proudmom Our son is not taking leave but will have liberty after moving over to A school in Great Lakes. We plan to stay the weekend but I know some people can't do that. If you read the facebook page for Great Lakes A school it has a note on the side bar you can read about Phase I liberty (which is where our sons would be). They will be able to spend time with us except for any watches. TrainingSupportCenter Great Lakes (on facebook)
I am so excited for the Liberty. She is staying at the GL and we will stay until Sunday night. Can't Wait.
Craig@ Also tell your female Deppers that the small wallet needs to be plain and black. My daughter took a small one, but I am guessing Vera Bradley was not on the acceptable list. That came back in the box too. She thought she only needed a small one.
Oh what will the weather bring us today??? Now it is mild, you don't even need a jacket. This afternoon rain? snow? black ice? Anything is possible lol. Life in the mountains of NC is awesome but the weather is almost unpredictable :-)
Craig-EVERYTHING she took came back except her drivers lisence, checks, SS card, stamps, phone card, address book, and hair brush. She kept her cash too. However, she gave us just about everything at MEPS to bring home.
* Yesterday, December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States Of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by Naval and Air Forces of the Empire of Japan. …. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this pre-meditated invasion, the American people, in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory. Because of this unprovoked, dastardly attack by Japan, I ask that the congress declare a state of War.
Craig- Everything except for my daughters DL, SS Card, & the 25.00 she took came back even her stamps werer sent back. We bought her a digital watch and that was sent back as well
This video is so cute. Not American Sailors but Sailors just the same. They went out on what was supposed to be a 7 day deployment and got rerouted and now this British Sailors have been gone for 7 months but are now coming home for Christmas. Enjoy!!!

Hi ladies, sorry I was MIA yesterday. I took my mother Christmas shopping and that's an all adventure because my mother is in a wheelchair. I will try to catch up on my reading on here later tonight because unfortunately I am now heading to a funeral because my sister in law's mom just died. She was 89.
Tonight my youngest daughter flies home from college for her winter break, so I'm excited about that.
I finally heard from my sailor yesterday and his Christmas leave was approved. I spent last night trying to find a flight from him. They were all at least $700-$800 from Pensacola to Maryland. As a last resort, I did the Priceline Name Your Own Price, (which I've never done before) and I put in my bid of $350 and they accepted it. He will arrive home on 12/17/11, which is exactly one year after he graduated from BC. What an awesome day for his homecoming. We will have him until 12/26, so I'm happy mom today.

Then they flew home that day. He had to report to his duty station the next day so they just drove out and spent the night there. He is now tucked away on the couch with his favorite dog (who is VERY happy to see him) and relaxing.

Need some help -
I just received this today from a female depper on my website:
--------------------------------------------
"I read somewhere that we (females) could bring our own sports bras. However I went to the website :
http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/what_to_bring.asp
And on the bottom it says that Females are not allowed to bring their own bras, underwear, etc. So which is it?
I would realllly like to bring my own sport bras... I fear that the ones they provide aren't.... well... supportive enough."
-------------------
Can someone ask their sailors what the true answer is.
Thanks
