This site is for families and friends of Salilor Recruits with PIR THURSDAY, December 29, 2011. This is a great way to share information, concerns and to connect as we continue the journey through bootcamp to PIR and beyond.
Goodnight all...had a full day with my sailor arriving home today for a week. First time in over two years that both of my "boys" are asleep in my house at the same time! Older son moved out just 2 weeks before sailor left for bootcamp in Nov 2009....sent me into SHOCK...empty nest quicker than I expected. Got used to living alone with my sweet pups....then older son's condo got short-saled (rental) and he moved back home in August. Sailor has not been home in a year...so this is the first night that this "mama" is comforted that both boys are safe under her roof! It's a MOM thing, Craig! HA!
Ok, so we shall see if all 4 of the remaining divisions went last night or just two of them? I'm a Sailor calls should start in just about 6 hours or so. Good luck!
Off the Juno Beach today (90 miles north) for a beach day with my sailor and nephew. Beautiful here today. Will be off the site for the day, but back on when we return tonight.
Have a wonderful day, all...and hope that MANY get the I'm a Sailor calls today. HOOYAH!
Don't know if you saw this yet...but here is Div 021 from RTC FB (A gentle reminder...please don't identify your Sailor directly ;-) Just click to open in another page ...it should enlarge.
I am in need of some advice from the veterns here. My son will graduate on the 29th. He is not taking leave and will stay in GL for A-school. My problem is his grandfather passed away this morning and he does not no. I think he can get 3 day leave that will not go against him. The family wants him to graduate and we would have a memorial service when we return. I don't want a chaplain telling him I don't know who to contact or how, he hasn't called since monday and I am running out of time. Can someone lead me in the direction i need to go. His A school doesn't start until 1/8/12....thanks Michelle
Michelle02 - First...I am very sorry for the loss of your Sailors grandfather (for your family's loss).
Normally...I would tell you to wait until after PIR to tell him...but what I am getting from your post is that you would like him to be at the service? The only way to do this is through the American Red Cross. This just recently happened in a PIR group and the mother was kind enough to share her experience. I am going to post it here directly so you can read what happened with her family. Then I will post the link to the link on the RTC website (the reason for the link to the link is so that you can read what RTC has to say about emergency situations.), at the end of the post.
Our son's grandfather passed away last Friday. We contacted the American Red Cross via the phone number supplied in the form letter and opened a case to notify him and to request a phone call. They were so wonderful to work with! The process was simple. The contact person was compassionate and knew exactly what to do to help us. In addition to the phone call we requested that a chaplain be present when he was notified and we were able to dictate a message to our son. I was very impressed with the handling of this sad situation. We spoke with our son three times on Saturday and he was allowed time to have a long talk with his grandmother. I am grateful for the American Red Cross and the service they provide for military families during difficult times such as the one we have experienced the past few days.
I don't think that he would be allowed to attend the service for grandparents---attending services is usually only allowed for siblings/parents/children/spouse...but hopefully he can talk to you all. So very sorry....
Is he allowed to go to the service if he is on leave? This divison gets that week of leave after BC if they want it and put in for it. I know they have only earned five days (?) 2.5 per month.
I am so sorry for your loss. I too was(am) in the same boat. My mother passed away on Tuesday the 13th. The funeral was this past Saturday. I however made the deal with my daughter that if anything was to happen to anyone while she was in bootcamp we would not let her know until after. Telling her that who ever it may be if anyone, would want her to finish and graduate. That they would be proud of her. When my mom got sick a week after she left for boot camp, I struggled with that decision. Then as time went on the letters from her telling me how proud she was of herself and how that going into the Navy was the best decision she had ever made for herself made it clear that we were doing the right thing. So on the 29th when she graduates and she gets to come home with us on leave, I have to tell her that her grandmother who she loved very much is gone, but is so proud of her. My mom wanted her to stay focused and show everyone how awesome she is and that is what my daughter has done.
Thank You everyone for your best wishes and your advice of how to handle this. Dad was very clear to us that he wanted Kyle to graduate and us to be there no matter what would happen, He had perfect timing because he knew that Kyle would be done his training. I was hoping that my son would of called again since Monday, I don't want to have to tell him on Christmas, once I know arrangements better I will call the Red Cross and see if he can get things rolling for a few days leave. Thank you for all your help,
If he is on leave, FTLW...he should be able to attend if it is held where he is on leave...or he has permission to travel to the place it will be during leave. Prayers continue...
So sorry, Gcip. And I know that will be such a difficult time. But I think you were very wise to have discussed this subject before she left. And...hoping that her beloved grandmother has a "front row seat" at PIR from her heavenly view! No doubt, she was very very proud of her!
I'll look Gcip. I got those off the RTC FB. They would've performed in the two PIR' s before their own upcoming...so I'll find those and provide the links to take you there. RTC posts pics if each PIR so lots of them.
