WOW, ending to a great day! I know a few Sailors from Division 168 got the surprise of having their Sailors for extra days... our Sailor was one of those!. I hope other families also were blessed as well. If anyone would like a "stained glass" pendant for their Ship 11 Division 168 Sailor, send me a private message. I have a few left over. Can't wait to see his smiling face again tomorrow.
Enjoy your weekend time with your sailors! Please don't forget to post on here about your experiences. Also, please post any "corrected" info that we N4Moms veterans may have gotten wrong...changes do happen! We want to make sure that we are passing along accurate info to the new groups.
And remember...each of you is now a N4Moms veteran! HOOYAH! We welcome you to join our "team" and jump on the PIR groups to share info and advice. Any time!
Sitting at o'hare waiting, still 6hrs before our flight home to socal. Thank you all for the love and support these past 9 weeks. It sure was quite the ride!! Graduation was perfect!! Shawn was right up front where we could see him. We spent an easy day at gurnee hills eating pizza and seeing Avengers (he and his dad are Marvel geeks so this was special) . Navy Lodge and Sarge's were wonderful. I would only change one thing, I would book my Friday night closer to the airport. We were able to meet up with Shawn this morning at 1AM even took him out to breakfast! He flew out at. 7 so we have been "homeless" all day and we are so tired.. we didn't want to drive back to GL just toturn around again. Needless to say we will be sleeping in tomorrow :)
Nrainygirl: It could be either a.m. or p.m. But if the ticket says p.m., that's what it is! That means he has a long time in the airport. But you will be there with him, right? So you will get some extra time together! Hoping that your flight out of Ohare isn't until late afternoon or evening!
He will most likely call you from the airport....he can borrow a cell once there. So be sure you have your cell phone on during the night, just in case.
Onatalie64... not sure who told you that you couldn't meet them there..... that's where we are headed to shortly... we were told YES and that's where you can give them the phones, laptops. You will have to check in thru security. My son will be there almost 12 hours waiting for his flight and we are waiting with him for most of that time.
We spent 12 hours at O'Hare with my Sailor before he left for SA. I can tell you ALL ABOUT Terminal 3 at O'Hare! You can get a pass at the ticket desk. Just be sure your Sailor meets you there. They are very understanding about Navy families and we even got to go through the VIP TSA line.
What an amazing weekend. Got to spend Friday with him and Sat at the airport with him. His flight left at 8:30am, but we met him there at 2am. The ceremony was fantastic and we stayed at the Navy Lodge and that was amazing. It was so close to the base and very nice. Sarge's meet and great was great and gave a lot of good information. Over all a weekend I will never forget.
What a weekend is right!!! We just finished our 11 hour trip home, slept of few hours and went to church. Now back home and to bed. I have lots of information to share and will continue to be an active member here to help new Navy Moms find their way. I LOVE this site and couldn't have made it without it. THANK YOU Navy Moms for caring for me as much as we care for our own families! Now to bed then more later. Hugs everyone!
Thanks for all the information I was given, Graduation was awesome ,I can't even explain it,They did a wonderful job!!!!!!! The show they put on is breath taking,I can't believe the sailors, and all of the Navy Recruit personal put that all together in 2 months(a fine job they did) I will never forget it. Thanks to all the Navy Mom you are the best!!!!!!
If any of you would like to jump on the PIR 06/08 group and share your experiences at PIR, I know those ladies would love it. So feel free to do that! They are almost there!
Wow, we are now ALUMNI! My son is now hopefully safe and sound in Pensacola and family is all back home. Roller coaster of emotions... don't think I can quite put it in words yet.
What a fantastic weekend! PIR was everything the ladies on this website said and more. I still have chills watching my son and his fellow recruits become sailors. The ceremony was dignified and full of tradition. I got lots of pictures! While my son was already quite a young man before bootcamp, it was nice to see the refinement.
After PIR we took a tour of Wrigley field. I highly recommend it. I got such a kick out of seeing my son get recognition for his service. I saw it all weekend for all our young men. Later we went to an early dinner, I loved the fact that we had time to catch up. He was able to Facetime the family back home. We also had most of the day on Saturday at Ohare to just talk and have lunch as we were able to get gate passes. I agree, everyone was so understanding of Navy families.
He bought the super package of pictures, beautiful commemorative frames, and the division sweatshirts and sweatshirts for his Dad and I. He was so excited to present his gifts and I was so overjoyed to receive them. We said our goodbyes and I sent my son on the next stage of his journey... What a weekend!
Thank you to all the ladies on this site, I don't know what I would have done without you. Twinsmom, it was wonderful to meet you and your family. One last note, my husband and I had the chance to visit the Navy Pier. It was a lot of fun. If you get the opportunity venture a visit. Lot's to do.

Wow what an amazing weekend - Got to meet some terrific N4M's and got to spend the whole weekend with my son. PIR was awesome what a wonderful group of sailors we have. Thank you all for helping me get through these last 8 weeks but my son is now moving on to the next phase of his Navy Career in Pensacola,FL for CTT training although it was very hard and emotional telling him goodbye today. Good morning everyone - it's so great to hear your PIR stories and share your excitement. My sailor graduated in January and N4M is still my lifeline. Hello everyone, I got in last night from Chicago, what a wonderful weekend, enjoyed every second of it, after being without my sailor for 2 extremely long months. PIR was awesome, could not stop the tears of pride and joy, seeing him standing all tall and proud in his impeccable white uniform. My sailor stayed at GL for his A-School so we spent Friday, Sat and part of Sun with him. He was able to keep his cel phone, his lap top and even got himself an x-box and a monitor, he is on hold for his A-School until the 19th and will be there for 17 more weeks, so his roommates told him to get him some sort of entertainment or otherwise he would be bored to death. I got to walk all the way to his ship, was not able to actually go inside the ship, but at least got to see what he will be experiencing during his next 17 weeks while in school. The base is huge we walked for like 30 min to get to his ship, they have their own little world in there. :). The day of PIR he had to be in the bus by noon to move all of his stuff to the new location and it took about 2 hrs, after that we picked him up and the first thing he wanted was to eat Chinese food, and the second most wanted thing for him was taking a looonng nap on a REAL bed..(my lil angel) slept like a baby!!!, on Sat we picked him up at 6:30 am went to the mall, and to the movies and drop him off at the gate by 9:00 pm to give him time to walk back to his ship and be there by 10:00 curfew time. One thing I would do different is I would stay until Monday so I can keep my soldier the entire day Sunday. Stayed at the Navy Lodge and it was wonderful specially how close it is to the base, about a five minutes drive..!!!!
I want to thank each one of you ladies out there who helped us go thru all this whole new world, with your support and experiences, may God bless you all and for those new Boot Camp Moms, it will get better and enjoy every second of you time with your sailor after PIR!!! they feel like a lil bird out of a cage and we feel like when the nurse gave you your boy to hold after birth, you will not be able to stop looking at your sailor and feel this PRIDE and JOY much bigger than you!!!! My daughter is in A school now and hasnt stopped texting me and skyping me everything she is experiencing. It does momma's heart good! Cant wait to see her in a few days!
Yeah, we made it! Hope everyone had a fantastic time with their sailors. I know I did. Even watching him sleep curled up in the hotel chair was nice. ;-) I look forward to keeping in contact and finding out how everyone is doing.
Just got home to Az. PIR was amazing and it was so wonderful to see our son!! He is now off to Groton, Ct. for Basic sub and A school. I am so relieved that he now has his cell phone. H;e sbeen texting and calling off and on since he got there and seems to like it already. Thanks to all on the site for the support and guidance.
One bit of advice for future moms would be to find out about the photos. Our son ordered several frames and they are somewhat bulky. We had to pack up the photos and frames and check them in as luggage. Glad we were on Southwest, so it didn't cost extra.
Thanks and God Bless all of you and your sailors!!
We got back yesterday, it was an amazing weekend! The ceremony itself is incredible, and my son had told me ahead of time exactly where he would be standing during the ceremony so we saw him instantly when they marched in! They all looked so great, and so happy! We went to lunch and then he wanted to go see a movie, so we saw Battleship--lots of fun! Then went to the NEX that is off-base and huge! On Saturday, he had one of the last flights to SC, at 7:15 pm, so my daughter and I got to hang out at the USO with him since everyone else had already left. Nice relaxing visit with him! It was great meeting SAMcJmom, Queenjailyle, and Keoquilts! Sarge is great, too--definitely recommend his Meet & Greet! Thanks to all of you for your support these last few months! I will be back there again 7/6 for my other son's graduation! It would have been nice to at least get to see him too while we were there, but I knew that wouldn't happen, but he got to make his first phone call to me while we were all there having lunch, so he got to talk with me, his two sisters, and his dad all at the same time!
MommasHeart...my Sailor's PIR was 2 March. I think his father got it on his recorder so I am going to see if he can't send it to me. Thank you soooo much!
Good morning everyone! Pictures on the Facebook Great Lakes Recruit Training Command page from our P.I.R.! I can't see my son but it's still wonderful to see all the pictures. I hope that everyone is well and their Sailors are settling into their new routines.
Back to reality today after the most incredible weekend. It was so nice to meet some of you at the meet and greet and prior to PIR.The community of Great Lakes was fantastic as was all the staff at the Navy Lodge. Little jealous of some of you that are talking about recognizing your sailors right away, it took the family and I quite awhile to find HIM. It is truly amazing how much my son has changed. I went back to work today and wanted to BRAG all day, but I think(actually I KNOW) I am going to need you all for the next four years because not everyone understands what we understand.
Ladies: Some on the other PIR groups are mentioning "tickets" for PIR. Now, we know that they have never had tickets for PIR before, just the names on the sailor's guest lists. But wanted to doublecheck to make sure this isn't a change and that they are issuing tickets at PIR. Can someone please let us know that? Want to give accurate info to the current PIR groups. Thanks!
No tickets for my sailor. Only names on his list. As a matter of fact my ex-husband brought his most current girlfriend and they even allowed her to attend even though she was not on the list. We also surprised my son with his two younger siblings because we knew they would be allowed in as they are both under 12.
Hi Diannep! I'[m pretty sure my first form letter talked about the number of tickets each sailor would get but no actual tickets were issued - just the names on the list.
Well ladies, I am less than 24 hours away from being with my daughter and maybe some of yours in San Antonio tomorrow! Friday night we are taking my daughter and 4 of her friends to the mall in SA and we are all eating out. They all will have liberty. I would love to know if anyone of you have a daughter there that I will be seeing. I promise to love all of them as if they were my own for the short time that I am there.
Craig, I don't have a daughter there...just my son. I will be interested in the hotel/car rental and stuff that you have booked as I haven't booked mine yet for my son's graduation 2 July. Have a great time!!!
Nrainygrl - ask Diannep to help you find appropriate groups to be in for your sailor's schools. She is amazing! :) There are lots of groups to join and you need to do that to keep the support going. Congratulations and good luck!
My son is in Pensacola doing aviation electronics. He said he would be there for 104 days. I know it is a big place and am not sure where he is right now. We haven't heard from him since seeing him on Sun. at Midway. It was an amazing weekend are enjoying the pictures and memories. Congratulations again to all the new sailors and to their families and good luck in the next phase.
Ok ladies, which one of your Sailors, who stayed in GL for A School, is now my sons roommate and brought Athletes Foot with them. HAHAHAHA!!!!! See BC follows them to A School too!
LOL. Ellen. Perhaps my son? He showed me his feet on Sat. and said someone gave him some spray that helped him. He was planning on getting toothpaste and "foot spray" when he got to Pensacola. He is doing aviation electronics and was in div. 164(Jonathan)
Ellen0502, whoever it is gave it to my son too! My son said their feet were rarely dry, all the sweat from their workouts. Lol! Good news is, they survived boot camp and will survive this too! :)
For anyone on this site who has a LinkedIn account. I saw on the news today that their member info was hacked and passwords and other info compromised. They said if you have a LinkedIn account you should change your password immediately. Just thought I would share because I know many of you are on that site.
I did find out the best remedy is clotrimazole (Lotrimin) it is the fastest acting cream, add foot powder for in between morning and night treatments and foot spray for the boots.
I'll add that my son has never had it (he is 26) and here he is at A School and sends me a text message and picture of his foot saying "what the hell is this?". I laughed so hard and said I am sure it's Athletes Foot, go get something at the NEX for it and I'll send you some more. He answered with "damn new roommate."
I told him to change his socks every time he took off his shoes too, then he complained about his roommate creating more laundry (he was kidding)...lol. He does like all of his roommates, so really not an issue.
I never thought my care packages would be for athletes foot.
