My husband always gets fungal on his big toes after a deployment..No matter WHAT kind of boots he gets (he always buys a different pair rather than the issued ones, for the desert...AF on a base for six months 110+ temps).
I have had him use the Lotrimin spray on them too. Believe it or not he has used Lysol to soak his feet in....when it has been really bad. He got it from someone a long time ago. They told him to dilute it down...however the directions are for the lightest dilution is on the bottle...and soak for ten minutes once a day. He got it once from the police station showers...as well as military...and he and his friends have passed the Lysol remedy around when they have gotten it real bad. It jump starts getting over it. You need the powder and sprays too.
Athletes foot is going to be something they contend with. Tell them to wear "shower shoes" basically the cheap flip-flops in the showers too...it helps somewhat.
Ellen...too funny about the pics from your son! Can you believe that THAT is what you would get pics of?! LOL
ellen: Mine had never had it before either...Navy dr took a look at it and told him there was no more fungus (his is on top of his foot, not in between toes). He told him that he has to quit scratching it...because that is causing the irritation.
Well, DUH! I had already told him that. The guy can't stand to have something like that on his body...so....oh well.....his issue! Thanks, ellen!
FTLW: They get in major trouble in bootcamp if they are caught not wearing the shower shoes. When my son was there, I believe he told me that a guy even got asmoed over that. Wow. All part of following orders! Can't imagine the guy wouldn't want to wear the shower shoes...but I guess it takes getting used to since most people don't wear shower shoes in their own homes--he probably forgot but I bet he never forgot again!
Wow is right! When I was talking to my son last night my son told me about the mando about wearing shower shoes! LOL...wasn't something I exactly thought to ask about!
I'm going to ask him if he wears them when he goes to his drill weekends...he should!
My son hated shower shoes at BC, but always wore them knowing it was IT or worse if he didn't.
At A School there is a rule of no standing water, so after they shower they have to dry not only themselves but the shower too. They also must mop everyday with a bleach and water solution.
I guess Athletes Foot isn't overly contagious at first, but once it gets going it can run rampant from what I have read.
When it rains, it pours :-( If you received an email from me (regular email from uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com, not this sites emails/messages) it would have had a weird weird link on it. DO NOT open the link. I didn't send it and it could be a virus. I am so sorry for any inconvenience this could have caused and of my friends. I get these emails all the time so I know not to open them. But I guess somehow I got a virus from it. Don't open it and you will be fine. I never send links like that in an email. I would only send you a link to my website or facebook page and that would be in the middles of a real message that you can tell is from me. Thanks
Hi everyone. Thought I would check in and see how everyone is doing. Still feels odd not being here every morning and day! My son is settling into NATTC at Pensacola CTT. Had to give him pats on the back fro coming out of BC as E3, think that's good, pls correct me if I'm wrong. He and another young man from his division168 are CTT AEF and will go to Corry Station after they have finished classes. Getting confused with all the ratings and abbrev.'s. Any other Mom's that want to stay in contact friend me here or on facebook. I get alot of error messages on this site so facebook is better for me. It was nice to see others post that they have sailors at Pensacola! Question: did anyone get video from PIR? My other son did but the dang thing was out of focus alot and I get dizzy watching it! It's on my Facebook page if anyone wants to watch it. Take care everyone!
hi cindyship11...my son stayed in GL for A school but I am also better at staying in touch on facebook. let me know how to find you on there the link to mine is https://www.facebook.com/rivermagick
Griff'sma, thanks for the link, sent a friend request.
Talked to my son today, they had straight line winds and downpours yesterday and not sure how much more rain today. Trying to figure out how to get his boots dried out! I made the silly suggestion that he ask around if anyone had a blow dryer (thinking like a female). Was promptly told "Mom, that's stupid guys don't use blow dryers and I am NOT going to ask!" He said one person had the not so smart idea to put his boots in the clothes dryer!!! oh my!
Oh man cindyship..I don't even want to know what it did to them! I can just imagine. (cringe, cringe) I'll ask my hubby...he is a Boot conniseur (sp)! LOL Shhh, don't tell him I said that!
Cindy...I am laughing at this one. My son is at A school in SA and he asked his CPO how the CPO got his boots to so shiny. It turns out that the CPO uses his wife's pantyhose and traveling blow dryer. So the next time my son was in SA he went to a store and got black pantyhose and a blow dryer. When he went to check out, the clerk (a young woman) looked at him and said "I don't think that's your color (referring to the pantyhose)." My son replied "It's not what you think." She replied "Uh huh." He does now have some of the best shined boots in his class! I don't see this happening at boot camp!!!
Dunno, he might have to suck it up and get the blow dryer! Your NOT so silly suggestion was a good one Cindy.
Really, take the insoles out and let them dry...take them to the laundry with you and put them near the dryer (not in or on) any kind of indirct heat. Heat on the boot is going to melt the wax in the polish and screw up the laborious shine that they get on them.
LMBO for the stories! Guess if he wants dry boots he will have to figure something out. His only thought was to get out the brand new IRON that he had bought for his uniforms and "somehow" use it. His question for me about the iron was "Mom, should the iron smell funny when I turn it on"? Yes, if you have never used it before! Thanks for the giggles!
txbabydocmom...AWESOME!!!!!! I am soooo excited for him (and you) I know that it took a long time for this to happen and we are sad that you were not able to be with us on 6/1....but it is WoNdErFuL.....that his appeal was granted...still praying for y'all and hoping that the rest of his training goes smoothly. {Hugs} to you both!
txbabydocmom - WOO-HOO! Victory! That is friggin' fantastic'! Especially since you are so correct! It rarely happens...I have only personally seen one other in the year I have been on here (I know there has to be some more....but that is my personal experience.) Lots of Happy Dancers!

See you on your new PIR group! Congrats to your son for stickin' it out!
My son is at GL for A, he said he has about a week before he starts the next phase...I am guessing that is OS. He was trained in standing watch but now has some down time.
My son is an EM, A school in SC. Im looking for others, I have joined a few groups but there is not much activity. Does anybody know of a good group? Thank you:)
onatalie64...my son is in SC also, he is an ET. I and several other moms on here have joined "Nuke Moms"...I think you will find that there is a LOT less activity on the A-school groups than you were used to with the boot camp group. That is mostly because we can talk to our sailors often and we can have them answer questions for us rather than only talking amoungst ourselves. I know that there are a lot of great folks on the nuke mom site and they are ready and willing to answer questions and to help with suggestions on places to stay if you are visiting the area. I look forward to seeing you on that group, feel free to friend me if you would like.
txbabydocmom- That is such awesome news that your son is finally about to start back on his training. Wish things would have been different and he could have graduated with us on the 1st but please keep us posted on his acheivements. We are proud of him to keep fighting for the appeal to be approved.
Hi cindyship11 div 168-- Glad to hear that your "D" is an E3 now also. My "D" started bootcamp as an E3 so that is awesome that your "D" is an E3 now as well.Had to ship his xbox and civilian clothes so they will be there ready for him when he phases up in a week. It is great that our kids will be going through this next journey together.
Cathy379, my son is at A School in GL (PIR 4/20) for ET. Is your son on hold for A School or ATT. I am not sure if OS take ATT or not (I assume they might be). ATT is a basic electronic course that is given before they actually start A School and teach everyone that a thing-a-ma-jig is a thing-a-ma-jig not a watch-ma-call-it. It puts those that use it and those that fix/install it on the same page.
There can be a wait for school to start and before my son started ATT the motto was "Join the Navy. Turning out 300+ janitors a week." :)
Janet(dereksmom21), sorry feel weird not calling you by your name chick! Thinking I have actually gone 2 days without talking to "D". He has his room to himself now, other 2 guys went somewhere else. His liberty wasn't what he wanted over the weekend because of all the rain but he and Katlin are planning their first together since PIR. They are doing alot of skyping. Please tell me if you had trouble with your pendant, Katlin's had to be replaced :( Working on more for other military friends Mothers. Need to do my own with "D" official pic. Hugs! Cindy

My husband came back home to move me out to SC last week so I havent been on here for awhile! But I just wanted to let some of you Nuke moms know how awesome your sons are! 9 out of the 12 people that came with my husband here helped us unload our truck when they could have been out doing things on liberty! Needless to say we will be having a big cookout for everyone who helped this weekend!
Glad some are stilling sharing their good news! Hate seeing the member numbers dropping but do understand about joining other groups. brittney0904, cathie379,ellen0502, and griff'sma great news!
