mrsb awesome! Thank you so much for the information. He is slated for PIR on 3/14 We will be flying into/out of Midway later in the evening on Saturday then. This will allow us to at least have a chance to at see him for a bit longer. Thanks again!
armynavymom - Big NAVYMOM hugg. Yes, every moment we get to spend with our Sailors is awesome. When we have them for a short visit it is difficult letting go.....again. I hope you can visit him soon in Bangor. God speed to your Sailor. Next step Dolphins - hooyah!
emkim - Hooyah on PIR. Enjoy, it is truly a proud, moving celebration for the family. I understand the Sailors Battle Stations is their proud, moving celebration. Take kleenex!
Did I hear someone saying Dolphins? I have a bumper sticker on my truck that says GOT FISH? with the sub dolphins on it.
My wonderful son started A-School on Monday - 18 more weeks and he graduates
HOOYAH! I can't wait to find out what boat and where he is finally going. I am SOOOO proud of all these men and women. Don't let anyone fool you, the NAVY is no cake-walk. They have worked hard to get where they are.
That's great news for your son navymom2013!!! We can't wait to hear where he's going too! My son is on radio hold-ACU, always cleaning up!!! I think his A school starts in March. Good thing January is almost over!
And yes, being a Navy Mom is hard but we have so many friends to help us along the way! :)
Congrats to everyone and their son's starting A-school!
mrsb and proudnavymom#1 Our boys are obviously on different schedules these days. My son started Sonar Tech A-School about three weeks ago. Can't wait to hear when yours start their school too. I'm sure they're done with ACU and ready to get on with it just as ours was.
navymom2013 up until June of 2013 I had never put a bumper sticker on any car I owned. I now proudly display two, one for my Sailor and one for my Marine. Your got fish? sticker sounds like fun :-) I also can't wait to find out where my son will be going next, very exciting!
tidefan: BESS/ Basic Enlisted Submarine School is six weeks. Mine graduated back on August 9, 2013. And ask away I've discovered over these past nine months any all questions will be answered :-) Did your son start this week?
I am so very proud of ALL of our soon-to-be-submariners - beyond words! It is wonderful to hear about ALL of your (our) sons. Thank you, NAVY MOM'S for being out there and answering all questions - I truly cherish how we can reach out.....and someone who can relate is there!
Most of the Sailors that our son's have PIR'd with are out in the fleet and working IN their assigned jobs. When our son PIR'd we thought he would go right into A school.Little did we know. We are now aware of all of the extensive training our soon-to be-submariner son's go through and the time it takes too! So proud.
I have not found a sticker for my car.I like the got fish? I do have a license plate frame with small dolphins and NAVY on top, bottom says SILENT SERVICE.
mrsb I've been here, just lurking around and reading all your entertaining posts as usual :-)
Home ill past two days with some cold virus that I've had for 10 days and counting...getting worse instead of better seems to be the way for me. But I'm curled up with a blanket, cup of tea, fireplace going and either my computer or Nook to entertain! So I can't really complain especially when I read about the miseries of others and their winter hardships.
Hope all of you are staying healthy and I always pray for all of our boys too.
FATHOMOM my husband also has the Silent Service license plate frame. Our son mailed it last year along with a few bumper stickers shortly after his arrival in Groton. I bought my bumper stickers at the NEX in Great Lakes it was across the street off base from the RTC. The manager let my husband, myself and our youngest son shop in a specific area of the store at the front. They had clothing, collectibles, bumper stickers all the memorabilia we were looking for. She said normally we were only supposed to be there on weekends or something when not accompanied by our Sailor. I can't remember exactly, anyways it was a blessing she was very gracious to allow us to shop at all. Maybe ask your son for a little gift and he can send you some :-)
Aw, Kevsmom, sorry to hear that you're sick! I know something bad is going around. Most everyone around work has been or is still sick; luckily I've somehow avoided the whole thing. Must be my mean temperment! LOL!! I do hope you feel better soon, but hovering on a couch, with a blanket, cup of tea and nook sounds pretty enticing to me!!! ;) It almost looks like a wintry day here today, foggy this morning and now cloudy. Let's all pray that there's a little bit of rain up there that wants to fall down on us!!
I wonder if my son can get a Silent Service license plate frame....hmmm, I'll have to ask him!! I think that would be pretty cool on my car!!! Then I could put the Mom, US Navy on the front!!
Ginger matt's mom-yes my son arrived in Groton Monday late. He loves it so far. Doesn't report for class until the 10th I think he said. He helped with pancakes yesterday and as needed all other times
mrsb- Thank you for your kind words . And really your mean temperament? (lol) Silly girl! Hopefully your next for a some well needed rain!
tidefan- Yay he made it to Groton finally! I'm sure he's going to be busy putting together his qual packet this week. Glad to hear he's enjoying it there I know my son does too, Helping with pancakes doesn't sound too bad especially if you get to taste test too!
Just spoke to my son - his classes were cancelled and his test for next week will be delayed. Snow and Ice - that is the order of the day. He is telling me that he actually likes it. He really feels like that is his home now and although he misses Florida, he really likes the winter in Connecticut. I think he has finally Frozen his sense of reasoning LOL Brainwashed by the weather!!!!
My son sent a lovely picture of a snow covered sidewalk with snow covered trees. It is kind of pretty-sure could use some of that wet stuff out here in CA!! My son also likes it there. I think he enjoys the changing of the seasons-we just don't have that here. I'm glad he likes it though. :)
My son enjoyed today's snow day and went sledding with a friend. I suggested Washington Park, not too far from base, and that is where they went. looks like he had a blast! I used to sled and ice skate there, many years ago.
And he is also a California boy, born and raised. We usually made a trek or two every winter to the local mountains to play in the snow, and when he was in Boy Scouts they always did a ski trip up there. But now he is living it, and loving it! My hubby was raised here in CA, I am a CT yankee.
Our son called today - LOVE to hear his voice. Yup, had a few hours of class today then they called a snow day. He is a California boy and is ok with all of the snow but not lovin it. He says it is hard to get things done when there is alot of snow. Funny, loves it when he is snowboarding. I do agree mrsb - nice if they could ship a little snow our way! He does truly love being at Groton Base with so many awesome things they have been exposed to and have learned in his courses and all of the good friends he has made. He got a new room-mate recently - all good! Thank YOU God.
Sorry to be the party pooper here but our son in his usual honest way he told us that "snow is overrated"......lol
He did grow up where it snows but not like CT. Ours would last a week or two at the most then melt and disappear. He's taken advantage of the area and has been snowboarding, built snowmen...enjoyed the two snow days they had this week. But it appears he's over it :-) Glad to hear your boys are still enjoying it though!
Hi 40inthebox, my son graduates MM school on March 7th! I am so not ready for that. We have twin son/sailors, the other is in Great Lakes for A school and was on a hold since they graduated bc in October, just started his A school last month!
That's funny Kevsmom93! We are in Texas so our twins are finding out what a real winter is! HAHA But apparently my boys are weird, they are ok with all the snow.
A friend whose son leaves for BC tomorrow can't get access to N4M, it's asking what color is the navy? I don't recall this question, she has tried blue and gold, navy blue, blue. It's it a trick question?
He has been sending my information on the new Virginia Class Sub that is being built now - the one with the new Nose design. I am saying my prayers for him to get what he would like to have.
He wants to go to Kingsbay, GA - I sure hope he gets that too - I hope all the guys and girls are happy with where they get to go after A School but I am trying to keep his feet on the ground here. The USN has the final say. They know where you are needed most. It doesn't hurt anything to wish and pray for it though. He just wants to get to the real NAVY and enough of the school.
He called me yesterday to tell me how someone had to push his car to break it loose from the ice holding it down.
I haven't been on this sight in awhile. My son is in A school now to be a radioman. He started last week and is scheduled to graduate May 29th...hopefully won't be changed with all the snow days. He met a girl while he's in Groton and is planning on getting married soon. So happy that he's happy and found someone he loves....but not gonna lie...scares me a bit as well! Praying everyday that thing work out for them!
Navymom2013- my son reports to Kingsbay in a couple of weeks. He graduates this Friday from A school and is flying home to Oklahoma. He is so ready to leave the snow and ice behind! The ultimate irony is he has a connecting flight from Atlanta to Dallas and with the imminent ice storm about to hit, he's worried he's going to get stuck in winter weather in the South lol! Hopefully we will have a few days of nice weather for him while he is home!
JTFMom, hello! My son is also radio and is ACU for A school. His A school hasn't started yet and is supposed to last for about 6 months-is there something I'm missing? Your son seems to be graduating sooner-just wondering. so happy for you though! Bless them all!
Between you and me, it would scare me a little too if my son met someone there to marry. Just sayin
Hello JTFsubmom! My son is also in A school to be a radioman and started last week, due to graduate on May 29th. Bet they know one another! My son wants to be on a Boomer and be stationed in Bangor Washington. We'll see if the "needs of the Navy" and his align. Best wishes with the upcoming marriage.

Congratulations to both of you on your boys graduating soon and JTFsubmom, congratulations on the wedding too! God bless their relationship and future marriage!
JTF submom - congrats on your son's find. Lot's of nice girl's everywhere - he got lucky in Groton. She probably has more of an idea than most, what the submariner's wife title holds. I'll say a prayer for your son - that he has a wonderful, forever relationship. Everyone needs someone to share life with. I'm happy for both of them.
Isn't LOVE GRAND! Tis the season boys and girls - Big kiss for the love's of our lives. Happy Valentine's Day! May Cupid hit you in the rump with his arrow LOL
ProudNavyMom, do they have C school or something? I'm really confused!! I have heard about C school after A school but I really don't know.
I hope I didn't offend anyone with my comment about my son meeting someone there. He actually has never been on a date, that I know of anyway! I would just worry that he would be hasty and I'd like to get to know her before anything got serious. Pretty sure I put my foot in my mouth here!!
mrsb...no offense taken here. It is very scary to think my son is getting married so soon. Thankfully they both were able to come to Tucson and spend 2 weeks with us over Christmas. It was a great time and they clearly love each other and feel very blessed to have found each other. I would've preferred they wait until after his first deployment but they are both sure that they don't want to wait. I can only pray for them and their future.
Navymom2013 - Thank you! She is a nice girl and her family has been so good to my son. Its comforting to know he's getting home cooked meals and a sense of family in Groton. Prayers are always welcome!
Proudnavymom#1 and mrsb - my son got to Groton the end of April and thought he would be there until July or August of this year. Mid January he was told he would start A school (for Radio) Feb 3 with graduation June 9th. He then ended up classing up January 27th with a new graduation date of May 29th but didn't actually end up starting classes until last week. We'll see if the May 29th grad date sticks with all the snow days they've had! lol
Submom - I guess our sons are together in the Radio A school. Perhaps they do know each other...I'm not sure how many sailors are in the classes. How is your son liking it? My son also wants Bangor Washington!
thanks for the info JTFsubmom-it sort of makes sense now! ProudNavyMom's son and my son both got to Groton on June 8th and are supposed to start radio next month, with graduation sometime in August or September. I don't know where they will go after that; guess it depends on the kind of boat they are assigned to.
I hope my son (sons for that matter!) find someone to love and marry someday. I'm more ready for my older son who is 26 now and just wants to hang with his buddies! Not going to find a girl that way! I wish your son and his bride to be all the luck in the world!
Thanks mrsb. I've kind of gotten used to dates/info changing with the Navy! lol Hard to make plans but it's also taught my son to take things more in stride. My son said he wouldn't know where he's going after school until much closer to graduation. I'm hoping for west coast! Especially if there will be grand babies in the next few years!
I have two older daughters (twins) that are 23 and one of them says she will never get married. All in good time, I guess! lol

All in good time, I guess! lol
