Congratulations to all the new couples. Our Nuke eloped last month to Antigua. Shock central! Expected the engagement not a marriage license. Last night I got the call... Hi, Mom, we would really like you to plan our Celebration at the house this summer, because we really loved all your ideas and it sounds perfect for us!
Doin' the celebration happy dance... ; ))
  • mrsb

Congratulations Johanna!!!  Lots of weddings going on!!

ProudNavyMom, when is the big day for your Sailor and his bride to be?

  • FATHOMOM

Congratultions JTFsubmom - It is beautiful to hear how loving you are towards your future daughter in law, thank God her family has been so loving too! That really makes a difference. May they be blessed with a loving, patient marriage. I will admit I am a little bit worried about our son, NAVY and marriage too. mrsb - no offense, we are all mothers who have the very same concerns. I must remind myself that our son's have begun a new life, they are honorable and hard working and starting their exciting lives and love is important to have in all of our lives. Oh, us Momma's just keep them in prayer and welcome our son's love's into our families. I pray I can do this gracefully when our time arrives.

Our son is in A school - ETNAV. Graduation is scheduled for May, although with  snow and cancelled classes we are not sure if this date will remian the same either! This is important stuff to learn....don't want to rush! I will ask our son if he heads to GA too for more training. I hear our son's will be getting more snow and cold weather soon. God keep our Sailors safe, warm and dry!  And that ALL of our soon-to-be Submariners get assigned to boats that are safe, honorable and a smooth working team!

  • stylist613

i didnt even know there were girls there!!

  • mrsb

Well, they're technically not on the base but they are around!

  • stylist613

lol my son hasnt really left base, although he is looking for a car now

  • mrsb

My son is supposed to be looking into getting car insurance so we can ship his car to him.  Seriously doubt he has done that!!  He relies on the kindness of his friends' hearts to get around, but I don't think he leaves the base very often.

  • navymom2013

Fathomom - my son is graduating for the same at the same time. He doesn't know where he is going yet - he hopes Georgia cause all his friends are in Savannah GA

Of all the moms on here - I think our son's might be together over the long haul.

    Wow!

  • navymom2013

stylist613 - If there is a girl within 20 miles, these sailors know about it.

  • stylist613

    Navymom2013....so true lol
  • JTFsubmom

Congratulations Johanna!  Wow...Antigua!  And now you get to plan the perfect wedding for them.  Lucky mom!

FATHOMOM - Thanks!  She is a sweet girl and she makes my son happy!  That's what we all want for our sons...to be happy and find the perfect partner to share their life.

He said something about going to GA after Groton for additional schooling but I'm not sure what he was talking about! lol  Sometimes I try to understand but it goes in one ear and out the other.  I think it might be all the acronyms! haha

navymom2013 and stylist613...funny story...when my son arrived Groton, his two roommates told him to go onto match.com to find a girl to drive him around! lol   He opted for us to ship his car to him. :)

  • stylist613

    Thats funny
  • navymom2013

When I brought my son's car (that I bought) to Groton for him, I drove by myself and turned up his wonderful fancy sound system and enjoyed his A/C and when I got there, I didn't give it to him until I left because I needed wheels.  He was so jealous and when I left it at the airport long term parking and flew home -  he found a way to get there that same evening to pick his car up but of course he had school that day.  He had to put gas in it to drive it home in the middle of the night.  I'll bet I never get to drive that car again. LOL  I'll bet it is really taking a winter's beating.  I am glad I didn't buy him a NEW one.  What with all that salt on the roads and even if you could wash it everyday which I know is NOT happening, it will be a rust bucket - he will probably sell it to one of the new guys when he goes out on a sub.  The radio is wonderful!!

  • mrsb

That's too funny navymom2013!!  His car so close, yet so far!!!  The radio in my son's car is crappy but as long as he has tunes he's happy!  I remember when we lived in Illinois I had to take the van through the car wash every week to wash the salt and crud off.  I doubt many of the Sailors in Groton do that!!

  • stylist613

are your sailors using USAA for auto insurance?? are there cars registered to home state. do they need to do anything special to have cars there

  • mrsb

stylist613, I suggested he contact USAA; he said he will.  I'm not sure about registration though.

  • shirl

My son is in GA for school for ETNavs that will be on boomers. Only ETNavs have that longer school for boomers, he was supposed to go to Washington and his orders changed , he is staying in GA he was mad a t first but now is ok with it.
  • 40intheboxShip11Div155

No, I guess not all ET NAVs go to GA. Is that for C school? My son has orders to the USS Chicago beginning of April. No mention of GA after A school graduation.
  • FATHOMOM

Oh, Johanna - Congratulations to you too! A celebration this summer - beautiful. Have fun with the celebration plans......May they be blessed with many years of love and happy dancin!

  • Johanna

FATHOMOM, thank you!!! Lots of dancing here, in between plowing snow!
  • Submom

JTFsubmom it is good to connect with you .  My son is really glad to be in A school and on the path to his first boat. He said there were  22-24 guys in the class. We are from Colorado Springs, Colorado if that helps your son figure out who mine is.  I don' think we are supposed to say their names here.  I've not been on here very much as I am having shoulder surgery this Friday.  Thanks for the friend request!  Hope we can "talk" more in a week or so when I am able.  ProudNavyMom#1  Your question about different kinds of radiomen is a good one.  From what my son has said, boomers and fast attack radio A school are somewhat different both in content and length.  So my guess, and it is only a guess is that your son is probably slated to attend a different sub type school. Hope this helps, it seems to become apparent in time what they are actually doing!

  • JTFsubmom

Submom its weird how talking to someone with our sons in the same place makes me feel closer to my son!  I told mine about yours and said you're from Colorado Springs...maybe he can figure it out!  I hope your surgery goes well tomorrow. I'll keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery.  Looking forward to "talking" more soon.

  • Annette

It took a deadline threat that we were removing him from our insurance for our son to finally insure his car out there. He apologized for dragging his heels, said he was intimidated. He didn't take care of winterizing it until very late October. Being a southern CA car, the radiator was mostly water and it needed to be flushed and filled with anti-freeze. And now it sits idle because a battery he replaced with his cousin's help is dead after just a couple months, so it sounds as if he has an electrical short. Now he relies on friends to get him places but he can't drive himself to visit cousins or aunts or uncles. He is the king of procrastination! They seem so grown up. Except when they aren't!

  • Navymom26

Annette my son is doing the same thing. He got his oil changed out before he came down for Christmas. Aftre he got here the oil plug fell out and seized his engine. The people who did the oil change refused to fix or pay for the car so he going to have to take them to small claims court. It cost 2400.00 to fix the car. He is afraid to file and go to court to get his money back. I have been on him for 3 weeks. It seems growing into a man is a little harder than he thought!  :)

To all the other Moms...Have a wonderful Valentines Day!!!

  • ProudNavyMom#1

mrsb, REALLY??? :-)  Your Son met someone in Groton? That is awesome!!! I'm just now going through 69 emails from N4Ms and just got to this one, ok. It's been about an hour and a half on my emails! I'm so excited for him! They must get lonely up there.

My Son and his fiancee' don't have a wedding date yet.  I think they just wanted to put a claim down on paper sort of.  No! They are not married civil nor Catholic wedding yet.  That I know of :)  I don't think his Fiancee would let him get away with eloping either! HAHAHA!!  But I will let everyone know the date when I found out and they give me the all clear.  :-) So exciting!!

All Moms, I am so happy to read all your posts and sharing and I'm learning and feeling everything with you all! I just don't get on here so often. I love to hear how we all love our boys so much!! It gives me a warm feeling to know we are all here for each other.

Kevsmom, I had to check out the youtube on the wisdom teeth aftermath! HAHAHHAHA cracked me up! I had to send it to my son.  I knew he would get a kick out of it! I'm glad the Navy took them out for him! Thank God! But sad like many that I was not there to mother him.  But he fared well! Thank God for that too!

Well, it is quite late/early in the morning here so I better check out for now.  Talk to you all soon.  BIG NMH!!!!! God bless us all

  • mrsb

ProudNavyMom, no my son hasn't met anyone!  I am hoping my older son meets someone of the female sex-he's 26 and just hangs with his buddies. No hope of marriage or grandkids that way!  My Sailor doesn't leave the base very often, at least not to my knowledge!  I don't think he's ready or willing to meet anyone, maybe when he gets home from an underway. Heck I dunno!!!  He enjoys his computer games too much right now, or at least again, since he couldn't play anything in boot!  I know my boys will find someone, someday. Am hoping anyway!  :)

  • S Oregon mom

Hi everyone. My son just got to Groton in Jan, he's very lucky to be there with a good friend he met from bootcamp. He seems to be doing well. I hear its starting to get a little warmer. A lot different than the rain we get in Oregon.

  • FATHOMOM

Welcome S Oregon mom - wonderful to hear a friend from boot is there too! All of our Sailors seem to be happy with Groton. Groton life is a big improvement compared to boot. We spoke to our son last night and he said they are in the 30's and it is great! He is over the snow and cold. Can you please send some of your Oregon rain on over to California? One of our NAVY MOM'S has a neice there in Groton who bakes and delivers beautiful and delicious baked items like large cookies, pies, cakes and more.  Several of us have had items delivered to our Sailors for birthdays, Christmas or just because. She does a wonderful job.

Our son is having a tough time keeping his truck running. It is in the shop - it needs a big fix - he wishes Dad was there so they could fix it together. We are doing our best to remind him to focus on A school rather than the truck and the girly-friend. And to consider keeping it or selling it when A school is completed and he is off to who knows where.  Ah, what do we know?

ALL NAVY MOM'S -  BIG HUGG. I agree, it warms my heart too, to know that you are out there in the very same "place" as I am and can soooo relate.  I enjoy hearing how our son's are doing there in Groton. May God guide and bless ALL of our Sailors and beautiful families.

  • FATHOMOM

Hello and Welcome CMS76! Yay! BESS....check! I hope he classes up to ATT real soon. I am happy your son is happy there in Groton. It truly makes us MOM'S feel better when we hear that!

  • S Oregon mom

Hi FATHOMOM, I would love to send some rain to cali, I hope some gets there, its going to be a bad spring and summer. We are actually way below the rain we usually get. Anyway, my son loves where he's at( close to fenway for opening day of baseball)  Not my idea of top priorities. He's also met a girl from somewhere around there already, JUST GREAT!! He is doing good in school though. My sons crappy truck is here with us, don't know what he plans to do with the darn thing. Also a big shout out to the niece who takes the guys treats, how wonderful of her. My daughter sent a bunch of valentines, everyone who got one thanked her.

  • Cath Bubblehead mom

I have posted this on Facebook - but I realize that some of you are not on FB. I took pictures of the BESS graduation on Friday - 2/21. They are in a dropbox where you are free to access and download - I took a picture of almost all the grads - there are approx 100 photos!

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kwz1dvt28ddofqa/ND0YuCgDyR

Please let me know if I should be posting this in another place - I want to make sure that all families know they are there.

  • ProudNavyMom#1

Cath Bubblehead, you are awesome! Are you the official photographer for BESS'?  If not, you should be!!! Not only did you capture each one of the Sailors and their reactions clearly, but you gave me an idea of the whole room and where parents sit and the all around tour of room where they graduate! Thank you so much!!! My Son already graduated from BESS and is ACU for A school.  I sure wish we had that many pics captured of each one of them.  There are a few mom's like you that were able to get us lots of pics of different BESS graduations and to all of you who did, THANK YOU!!!! :-) I really enjoyed watching each and every one of them! And seeing all our boys there.  Getting teary eyed now. So young and so on top of the world! God bless them all!!!

  • Cath Bubblehead mom

Thank you ProudNavyMom for those kind words. I am not a pro - a few moms on FB indicated they could not be there, so I decided to take pictures for them. However, I could not remember their names, so I took pictures of almost all the sailors!

If there was a way I could do it for all the graduations I would. I only live 90 minutes from base.
  • KKristen

Cath: Thank you very very much for sharing your pictures! It means so much because I couldn't be there. You are a blessing.
  • Cath Bubblehead mom

Kristen was your son in one of the pics?
  • mrsb

Good morning ladies!!  Wow, lots of new moms here today!  So happy you could join us!  My son also loves Groton but is getting tired of cleaning all the time!  He is waiting for A school along with ProudNavyMom's son, hopefully indoc this week and radio next-let's pray for it anyway!

SOregon mom, please feel free to send some rain our way!!  I guess it may rain this week, only because I'm getting 6 yards of dirt dumped on my driveway!!!  May have to postpone that one!  ;)

Welcome CMS76 and Cath!  Nice job with the pictures Cath!

  • mrsb

Txgal, I talked to my son last night and he said they got yellow carded and that 6 had been arrested for under age drinking in the barracks!  Funny how the stories differ from one day to the next!!  I'm not even sure what the yellow card means-seems like he said he has to walk up the hill every night at a certain time and check in?  Hopefully your son can let you, and us know what happened. I hop  this will be a lesson for the others, whatever happened

  • Annette

Oh dear. That's not good! Bad start to their Navy careers! I hope it scares them straight!

  • mrsb

Txgal-I hope your son can clarify things tonight!!

  • mrsb

Wow, two in the Navy!!  Congratulations to you and to them!  You must be so proud of them!  Please thank them for their service!

  • stylist613

Oh no... who all is included. My son was gonna come home this weekend
  • tidefan

my son found out today that he got sonar tech as his rate-that was his 1st choice

  • mrsb

Stylist613, I don't know who was involved; he didn't say and may not even know any of them.

tidefan, that is great!  It's always a good thing to get what you wish for!  :)

  • Cath Bubblehead mom

There are a lot of guys on base - they graduate at lease 90 every two weeks from Sub School, plus everyone who is there for tech & A school - could be any one of these guys! Probably the newer ones for Sun School!

  • Cath Bubblehead mom

Tidefan - my son is also Sonar - is your son in BESS?

  • tidefan

Cath yes he is-the ones in trouble had more privileges than mine did so they must have been there a little longer-lol

  • doubletrouble

Hi ladies! My son graduates March 7th & received his verbal orders last week, he got his first choice which was to stay in Groton! He will be assigned to the USS Pittsburgh. He is so happy, he really likes it there. Our other son, twins, is in A school in Great Lakes & has a little over a month left.
After I saw all the posts today about some of the sailors getting in trouble for underage drinking, I texted mine to check on him & he was not one of them! Thank goodness! He did say it is a big problem on base....sad they don't realize how much trouble they will be in.
  • shirl

Be aware of alcohol my son is of age I told him do not even be around underage guys if he is drinking, my son is the best, never thought it would happen to him, he got caught up in a group where one guy slipped up and took everyone down with him , I mean names. He has learned a valuable lesson and will never he said do that again, he was talked into providing. It was a horrible few months just waiting for punishment. He is a better man now, but thought he lost all he worked for. If anyone wants more detail I will provide in a private email. It was terribly hard on myself and my husband also. It is a problem in Groton, kids need to be very vigilant about doing the right thing, or u will go down. My son is still in and rebuilding his career, that is all for now.
  • Ginger Matt's Mom

    Shirl,

Thanks for being so courageous and sharing this difficult story. I think most of our young men have the best intentions and just get caught up in the moment. Unfortunately, in the Navy, these "moments" can affect your entire career.

  • mrsb

shirl, so sorry to hear about your son.  That must have been so difficult for all of you, especially for your son.  I pray that all is better now.  I have another Navy mom friend who's son got in trouble with drinking.  It was difficult for her as well, and the punishment was hard for him as well.  I prayed for her every day and will pray for all of them, that they have realized what they have done and won't do again.  They may not realize that a lot of other people are watching them, especially the newest ones to arrive in Groton.
