Question!! How long does my husbands schooling have to be for us to move with him? Iv heard sub school is 6 weeks and A school is 8 weeks then his C school is 7-17 weeks depending on which one he gets auxiliary or weapons. Someone help!
  • NavywifeAY

My husband graduates on 4-15 also!! I sure hope we can move with him. From what iv read sub school is 6-8 weeks A school is 63 days then C school for him is 7-17 weeks
  • NavywifeAY

We will have a 3 year old and newborn so hopefully they move us. . . I feel so alone without him

Anyone know what the daily schedule is like while in Sub school (I.e., hours in class, PT, etc...) just curious, as my son will be coming here after PIR.
  • CO_Proud Parent

This may help on the schedule for Sub School. http://usmilitary.about.com/library/milinfo/blbess.htm

They increase the liberty as they progress. If I remember right there are 3 levels of liberty that has to be earned.

Thank you CO_ProudParent, this is most helpful. What happens after the 26 day training? Do they stay in Groton, or go somewhere else? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am new to all of this stuff..

  • CO_Proud Parent

I believe that most of them stay in Groton for A school. But it does depend on their training. MT's go somewhere else. Most electronics training is in Groton. MM training is in Groton. CS, LS, and another rate go to their A school before going to BESS somewhere else also. There may be breaks in between training to get enough guys together to make the next class. Hope this helps.

    Thank you

CO_Proud Parent: Thank you for the info on what their schedule is.

So excited.. Heading to Groton tomorrow morning for my sons BESS graduation on Friday
  • Megan

Once they get to groton for BESS is there any time between then and a school they could come home for a few days like before the next school starts?
  • middlemom

Megan, not that I know of. My son graduated Friday and started his A school on Monday.

  • middlemom

Dani1324 - Welcome.  Groton is beautiful.  just got back from there on Monday.  Went up for my son's BESS graduation.

Had a great visit with him.

My husband just arrived to Groton A couple of days ago. He says he will be there for schools about 13 months. Does anyone know if I will get to move with him sometime after BESS?
  • JoleneG4Cman

Hello Everyone.... Our son will be graduation BESS in a couple of weeks. We are hoping he can come home for the weekend of July 16th for a family reunion. Can anyone tell me if this would be totally out of the question for him? He graduation PIR on 03/11.

  • Tamela

My husband graduates BESS a week before I graduate high school so I won't be able to attend his graduation. Does anyone know if it will be possible for him to have leave for my graduation? Also is there some sort of wait period between BESS and A School if they are both in Groton?
  • WearsLargeHats

Well, that would depend where he is going after BESS, and how far away home is. Assuming that he is in one of the A schools, and he can leave after working day Fri and be back Sun, and he doesn't have duty, it might be possible. Unlikely, don't plan on it, but he can ask.

  • WearsLargeHats

Tamela, my comment was for Jolene, but the same pretty much applies. Don't plan on it, assume the worst, but he can ask. Since y'all are married, he'll be having a lot of briefings and discussions with the chain of command anyway.

Good morning - my son arrived in the wee hours of the morning today. Hoping that he and his other shipmates will be able to get some rest today. Any other new Sub Moms out there?
  • Essential girl

Good evening! My son is shipping out tomorrow! He graduated on the 22nd. They're allowing him to spend time with his "squad" for 15 days before heading to his duty station in......HAWAII!!!!!

FYI...I HIGHLY recommend attending their small graduation ceremony. Although not like bootcamp, it was still very special and well-worth the trip. He even got to spend the weekend with us off base!
  • tysmom

Look for the Hawaii grp on N4Ms.

  • tysmom

My son is on the USS Charlotte.

  • Gardenia100

  • Amy L.

My son also graduated from BESS on 4/29!!!   He started the Techmo (I think that is what he says?? :)) this past Monday!!

  • WearsLargeHats

It is TCNO, usually pronounced techno. Tactical computer and network operations.
We need some sidebar pages with information like this.

  • ProudMom77

I've heard conflicting information, can anyone tell me exactly how long BESS is?
  • WearsLargeHats

Actual BESS is 7-ish weeks. Could be longer on the calendar. It goes by pretty quick.

  • ProudMom77

Thank you. My son hasn't started BESS school yet, waiting for more sailors to get there. He's hoping they'll start next week.
  • Gardenia100

    Bess is 8 weeks.
  • Gardenia100

    Hi Amy
My son is a MM, machinist mate and will stay in Groton.
  • WearsLargeHats

Just talked to my son. He has written orders to Hawaii, as he wanted. I guess I need to find the groups for that.

  • tysmom

My son is stationed there. He loves it! Soon I will be visiting there.
What boat is your son on?
    There is a Hawaii group.

  • Mandy

Hi! I finally got on here! Just read through all the posts to learn about BESS! Not sure if my son started SS today or if it will be two weeks? They sure keep ya guessing. Super excited that he is there and ready to go!
  • Reds

Hi can someone help me with how and when they give out the tickets for graduation ceremony? My son graduates on May 27 and I'm confused on how that works thanks
  • Erin

My son just finished bootcamp and would have arrived at Groton yesterday. Can anyone tell me how it works when they first get there? Will he be able to let me know his address so I can send his phone? I am new to this so any insight would be appreciated!

  • Mandy

My son has been in school for about a week before he sent me his new address. Hope this helps!

  • Reds

Can someone please help me or tell me how they got their tickets for Graduation? My son graduates this Friday coming may 27 and I haven't heard from him in 2 weeks or gotten anything from the navy saying what to do. When I spoke to him last he said they would be sending it? Is this true ?
  • Mandy

Reds, I'm sorry no one has gotten back with you yet. I have no idea but will ask my son if he can get some details for you. May not be until tomorrow though.
  • Reds

Mandy thank you! I'm not sure what to do and I'm driving 12 hours on Thursday to get there and not sure what to do
  • Gardenia100

    Reds
    Boot camp graduation or Bess?
I don't remember having to buy tickets.
You can attend sergeant Sar meeting and get informations about the booth camp graduation.
    I hope that help.
  • Mandy

Reds, I just got a text from my son. He said he will see if he can get some details about graduation for Friday, 28th.
  • Reds

    Mandy25
Thanks so much..I'm not sure if I'm on a list because he's allowed 4 guests and if they sent something as well. Not even mail on what to do when I arrive on Friday for the ceremony. I thought my son would of called tonight but no call
  • Reds

    Gardenia100
I was wondering if they sent tickets or info for Friday's Bootcamp graduation and what I should do once I get to the base? Is there a meeting like you said for us before the ceremony ?
  • Gardenia100

Contact Sergeant Sarge to get info on graduation ceremony John Spadaro(Sarge)847-212-0246, he is also on Facebook.
You can also go to this website http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil
  • Gardenia100

Your son have to put you on his guest list.
    Did you get that form?
    That website will help.
I hope I answer your questions.
  • Redbecky

My son started sub school yesterday in Groton. Where could I find more information on the training, maybe a timeline? Is this "A" school or does that come next?
  • Mandy

Redbecky, my son got to Groton coming up on two weeks and he hasn't started Sub School yet. I talked to him yesterday and he thought the next class would form in two more weeks. They have to wait in more guys to show up to make a class. From what I understand, once they start school it lasts for 63 days. Then on to "A" school. Hope this helps!
