Now hear this! Now hear this! This is a group for you Dads out there. If you've been to other groups and just can't find the information you're looking for, this would be the place to ask.
And gosh darn it, men have feelings and miss their sailors too!
So come onboard and batten down your hatches.

BTW, this really should have been started as a discussion in here.
FTLW, is there a way you know of to move all the comments to a discussion? People may want to read and add to this one day and much easier to do via an actual thread.

My son leaves for BC on 10/23/12. After that he will head to Goose Creek for the nuke program.
Chris - I have heard my son talk about the STA-21 program and he was going to do some research on it. How long has your son been in the Navy?

OK, but I get jealous very easily. So I'm guessing Chris's son started as enlisted? From what I hear the STA-21 is a pretty tough program.

Alright, so just reviewed Chris's page and now know my son is an underachiever.
I'm wondering if it's too late to have another kid? I feel totally depressed now. Heading to the bar to drink away my stinking failure as a parent.
Thanks a lot Lady Hamilton

BTW...here is some info on how the Discussion Forum works if you want to make changes and for everyone else to understand it.
-Discussion Forum Area
This is the place to start a Discussion about a topic and for your Division Discussions.
The Discussion Forum area is set to show titles only and is at the maximum of twenty titles at a time.
It is also set to show the "latest activity". So whatever has just had a reply added to it will "bump" that Discussion to the top. The discussion will stay up there at the top because it has had "activity"…until the Next Discussion has activity. If there are over twenty discussions, whatever is at the bottom will disappear. So, if you want to see more click, "view all" at the bottom right hand corner of the discussion forum area. It is right up there above the Blue Comment Wall bar.
To "bump" up a discussion to the first spot of the DF area when you don't really want to add a reply...in other words someone is looking for it...just type whatever you want in the reply box and click "add reply". I just type one letter or even a period and add the reply.
When you view a DF by clicking on the title, the first post ever made will be the first one on the first page. To get to the most current reply, click “Last Reply” directly underneath that particular Discussion.
Example
Ship 11 Div 178
Started by PaulaP (Ship11/Div 178). Last reply by PaulaP (Ship11/Div 178) 4 hours ago.
21 Replies 5 Likes +1
You will also notice that in the top right corner in any post that you do you will see an "x". This is so you may delete your post if you need too. You will also see the “x” on any post you make anywhere else on the site.

Actually, I have two amazing children. They may not be running the Fleet but they are awesome human beings. My daughter is a teacher who works with at risk elementary school children and has the patience of a saint (except when it comes to her parents). I am so proud of my Sailor son who has found something he wants to do. He is the most confident and focused I have ever seen him! They have turned out to be remarkable adults in spite of my parenting skills or lack thereof!

BowflexLA...well, if I didn't have their weights and weight bench in my house I wouldn't have thought about it! I just don't know too many people who use the equipment but my son sure liked it. He did the weights as well as using P90X to work out while he was in DEP.

BowflexLA...HAHAHA! So true about it as a clothes hangar! I have done a modified version of P90X...still not that great at doing pullups. But it's true...you get out what you put in. There is a trainer at the gym I go to who really liked the P90X and recommended it if you couldn't afford his personal training fees.

FTLW...I love that one. Is there a way to save it?
Jul 19, 2012
FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW
Drama - Yes...there are two ways.
Save it as a picture to your Picture library...then you can use the "Image" icon to load it and put it in your post.
Buuuttt...that's long and detailed...I will post the "how to.." if you all would like. It would show you how to load any picture/image to your Library and then load it here. This is actually the best way for images rather than copying and pasting (though that does work) but you can resize and reposition it...also sometimes when I have just copy and pasted...it disappears. Then there are those sites that tell you to save it and NOT to copy and paste.
The Penguin is a GIF though so he has a HTML code and you can Embed him like you would a smiley.
Save the webpage that he is on to your Favorites on your Computer.
Here is the link:
http://www.sherv.net/penguin-emoticon-143.html (I set it to open in a new tab on your Computer so you won't loose this one)
What I have done is to make a Folder in my favorites on my Computer titled "EMOTICONS" and then I save all of my html's etc. in there. (I re-title for ease of use)
Then embed him like you would a smiley.

ADVICE FROM A RETIRED HUSBAND TO OTHER HUSBANDS:
It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are overly sensitive, and there’s nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.
My name is Jim.
Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Terri.
When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Terri to get a full-time job along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work.
Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don’t yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men’s Grill at the club so eating out is not reasonable. I’m ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door. She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it’s not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner.
I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won’t clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.
Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, boys, we take ‘em for better or worse, so I just smile an do offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won’t have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn’t hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points.
When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half-finished mowing the lawn. I try not to make a scene. I’m a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me, too.
I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Terri. I’m not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile.
After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.
Signed,
Jim
EDITOR’S NOTE:
Jim died suddenly on February 7 of a perforated rectum. The police report says he was found with a Calloway extra-long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby. His wife Terri was arrested and charged with murder. < The all-women jury took only 10 minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defense that Jim, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.
Man, I bet I had some of you spun up at 1st... Remember, my 1st name is not Jim.....

Wow, I'll have to pass the information off to my father-in law. Since he retired he may have noticed her slipping. He is also very tired when getting in from bay fishing each day...
Would hate for him to accidentally "sit" on one of his rod and reels! ;)
