Happy that many more Mom's got calls today- hoping the ones who had dental work will be able to call tomorrow. I know some Mom's who need to hear from their kids.
Great idea, PamperedMom! Too late for me...mine are 28/26...but for others...HMMMMMMM. We may have to get some of them to "clean up their language" though. Although---my son had an RDC that never cursed. He finally asked him why he didn't...he told my son that he didn't find it necessary to speak like that...he was a Christian and greatly respected by his division. Maybe some can get HIM when he retires to train up your kids still at home??? :-)
Confirmed that one of our sailors was killed in the Colorado shooting...another was wounded but released from hospital. Sailor killed was 27, from Illinois, and stationed at the base there. Heartbreaking...
Oh no, oh no,...and I know that Craig will know him...he worked at the same place that all the military personnel do. :-(
So senseless...my heart is heavy today.
But we are celebrating hubby's B-Day today (I haven't mentioned anything to him - though he may know already and is not saying anything to me!)...so I will "lift myself up"!
Oh Dianne, that is So so sad. When you have a child sign up to serve our county the biggest fear is that they will be killed in some foreign land; not in an American Movie Theater. Such a waste of precious life. Please continue to hold them in your thoughts and prayers.
Happy birthday to your hubby FTLW (insert really awesome smiley blowing out lots of candles here) lol
I can confirm the aliens are present not only at BC but they seem to stay into A School. Just a warning!
My sons text last night. "Had a good day today. Was woken up early and told to strip and wax the floor in our room. Went to the mall with a group of and bought a couple pair of shorts (and they were kind of expensive) then we went to see Batman. No duty this weekend" Had fun today!
I did text back and ask "who is this and where is my son".
The son I knew didn't pick up his dirty clothes, hated shopping, was a tight wad with his money, and hadn't worn shorts since he was 10 or 11.
hi just popping in to say i got my first call..19min..he is very sick with congestion, cough, nose and voice etc..and had 4 teeth pulled :(..but he is still happy overall .he said his shins were fine so far.i also want to say i sent the rubberbands for him to bundle letters..and DONT SEND THEM ..he got IT for 40min because of it..i feel so bad and told him so..he said its ok mom..i also sent bandaids those passed ok but he said not to send anymore he can get them from medical person.he was cheery throughout but we both got abit emotional at time to say goodbye..it was so sad for me!..anyway..he said they get to write more letters now not just sunday..so life will get better that way !
hahahaha ellen...I think you should put all of these posts about your son in a word doc! Too funny that you could counter-point everything! LOVE the alien smiley! ellen is one of my emoticon buddies!
FTLW: He may be 1000 miles away, but he does manage to keep me entertained.
Last weekend he was having a hard time getting a spot on his boot repaired and getting it to shine. He sent a picture of his boots and the text was "One of these boots is not like the other one, not like the other one, not like the other one, one of these boots is not like the other one which one could it be?"
So to say the least it went from no contact in BC, to keeping me entertained and not missing him so much.
Ladies see there is life after BC, you will wonder which alien planet took him, and you can talk and text him bunches. Hang in there you aren't too far away.
ellen, is so right! Keep looking ahead, your time will be there very soon. Once they get to A school, you can call, text and Skype. All will be happy and good in your world once again. Just hang in there. :) Heck, my son has even called me once from his aircraft carrier. Boy, was I surprised to get that call.
diannep: He is a riot and he got it from his grandpa (me too of course ), my dad bet with the fleet commander as to who could get their ship parked closest to the dock, needless to say my dad drank free that night. My uncle a Navy "transport" pilot didn't like Bob Hope (a whole bunch of stories there). I have lots of Navy stories from several different relatives.
All of you here are already accumulating them from your SRs cherish them from the beginning.
I always appreciate a good sense of humor, ellen! A very positive trait!
Heard today on the news that the sailor who was killed in the movie theater killings was pulled outside by his sailor buddies....enforcing the "no shipmate left behind" theory. So touching. His parents did not get confirmation of his death from the Navy until midnight on Fri night....
lol, I wasn't drinking but if I was I would share. I think it was my computer. It looks like someone messed with the brightness on my screen but I couldn't find anything wrong with it. So weird.
On this day, July 23rd, 2010 my Sailor graduated from boot camp. I cannot believe it has been two years. It is amazing how fast time slips through your hands once they leave the nest. I am so very proud of her and all her accomplishments. She is an amazing young woman and the US Navy is so lucky to have her as part of their fleet.
Well, I got the dreaded call today. My son got into trouble for passing notes and talking to a female recruit. He was doing so well too. He will not be graduating on the 24th- he will now be graduating on the 7th. It is with regret that I will be leaving this group. The punishment is a 2 week delay, they said it will not affect his career or go into his file, so that is good. Now I have tons of reworking to do in order to get everything changed. I wish everyone the very best and wish your Sr's a great career.
This is part of a comment I made on one of my group pages and I was asked to share this with my all my PIR groups so I am pasting it here for you as well.
I know this site can be a bit hard to get used to. But once you spend a little time here it is not bad at all. And for all those who do use Facebook, including myself, we all know that it is not always so easy. It seems that just when you think you haveFacebook all figured out they re-do the format and change it all again and it is like starting over. We all complain and freak out and beg them to put it back the way it was but we stay there and learn it all over again. At least with this site they don't make such drastic changes. Just spend some time here and ask questions. We will help you learn to navigate this site. It really is easy :)
You can ask anyone who knows me. I am here and I am on facebook to help other people the same way that others on this site helped me. I go above and beyond what most people would do to help a stranger and I truly believe there are several others on this site and facebook who do that as well. We like helping people, it is in our nature and that is what we do. I have driven 3 hours to help a fellow Navy Mom who needed me. I have held get together's in towns I visit to bring Navy Moms in those area's together. I have done that in FL, VA Beach/Norfolk area and in Wilmington NC area. I provided snacks and drinks and we all just talked for hours about our Sailors and recruits. I really enjoy meeting other Navy Moms/Wives, Grandmas etc. I recently had another Navy mom offer to drive 3 hours to help my Sailor who is very sick right now. Really? Who does that? I can tell you who does that. A Navy Mom does that!!! I don't know many people in this world who would drive 3 hours to take some soup to someone they had never met and it just be purely out of the goodness of their heart. I truly feel very much appreciated on this site and on facebook because I am told how appreciated I am. I think it is important to let others know how much we appreciate them. We all have a need to feel loved and appreciated and I am sure that is why I continue to spend several hours a day reading posts and comments and answering questions to help those who need it. We are one great big Navy family and I am blessed to have all of you as my friends.
So, please spread the word about this site, tell others how much you appreciate what they do and as Ellen Degeneres says "Be kind to one another" <3 We are family now :-)
Good morning! I wanted to let everyone know that I found some cheap flights on Frontier Airlines. The flights are as low as $68 one way! That is so cheap. I've only checked on flights out of Denver, but looks like they might be running another sale. Just wanted to pass along the info.
We lost a sailor from my area on Saturday, Michael Brodsky. He was a Military Working Dog Handler in Afghanistan, based out of San Diego. On his 3rd tour of duty, I believe. 33 yrs old, had just re enlisted for 6 more years. He and his group came under fire and he ran to return his dog to safety. When he returned to help his buddies, he stepped on a mine. Lost both legs, but fought to stay alive (this happened earlier this month). He lost his battle on Sat. Sounds like one tough guy who now has grieving buddies and one sad canine companion. His brother is also a sailor. Family was in Germany when he passed (maybe with him if he was receiving medical care there?). Prayers for this family and their fallen hero....there is a FB page called K9 Heroes. On there, there is a video called "San DIego-based Military Dog Handler Killed (video)." A nice tribute to a man so dedicated to his job. Thank you for your service and the ultimate sacrifice, Michael Brodsky...God Bless You.
That's terrible...God Bless him and his family...his buddies...his dog.
Oh, I don't want to see another heartbroken dog lying by a coffin...that happened a while ago...he came into the church during the service and just laid down. How anybody could carry on from there I just don't know...
Ugh that makes me absolutely sick about Michael Brodsky. I hate to hear these kind of stories. Wow. It just disgusts me that our young men and women are trying to make the World a better place and then this happens. I am sick. I suppose he fulfilled his purpose in life, but still....All of our military personnel are in my prayers. God Bless Them All.
