My son got sick and said everyone gets sick. Crap happens :-)

  • lupner88

Received my first phone call tonight!  He did well on an inspection and earned a call. Has received several letters so far and will probably call again on Saturday.  I am so excited, I can't stand it!  My suggestion is to have paper with a list of questions you want to ask beside you when they call because you get so excited that you forget all you want to ask!! lol

  • Annabel Lee

I received a letter today! I'm feeling many different emotions. He's hanging in there, and he wants this so bad.. He said the training is more intense and faster, since he's in this division... He expected that, but in his letter I could sense maybe he didn't realize just how hard it would be... I could feel his determination and strength, but as a mother all I want to do is give him a hug, and tell him it's gonna be ok. I'm so proud of him..even if he doesn't make it... He says failure isn't an option though. :). Feeling anxious..and missing my boy!!
  • Annabel Lee

Lupner, happy you got a call! I'm writing down my questions for him as you suggested. :). Fingers crossed that I get to talk to him today!!

Hey ladies, an update on my son, the one that burst an eardrum five days into dive school. He has been cleared to dive again. They put him in a compression chamber stuck a camera in his ear and took him down 60 feet. Each time he cleared his ears they watched. How cool is that? They are working him out and making sure he will be ready at the end of March when the next dive class starts. He says they are taking good care of him and the weather in Panama City is beautiful.. I still miss him but glad to hear positive progress.

  • NJNavyMom

Narob01, I was pleasantly surprised on how well they treated my son, not just ear problems but also a severe case of pneumonia! It wasn't me taking care of him, but it was the next best thing.
  • Bonnie-Codysmom

hey narob1...hows he doing?  glad to see ya back onhere..we still need to meet for lunch....will he be in the dive prep in GL?  maybe with my son then...

  • narob01

  • narob01

Bonnie, How about Monday March 10th? Spring Break!!! I can come to you. My son has already done dive prep and is in Panama City. If his dive school starts in March they will be together then. That would be awesome for us!

  • sonofabeach

So....anyone have a graduation in May?

  • Robsproudmom

Just got a call from my SR and he's been cleared for full duty. Stress fracture is healed. He was Asmo'd into DIV 118 because of where they are in the BC process and I guess there wasn't room in an 800 division. He'll be graduating March 21. After 6 weeks in RCU he is so excited to be back at it. Mom is so happy as well :)

  • Robsproudmom

Supposedly he will hook up with an 800 div for Dive Mo

  • DoxieMom

Robsproudmom, glad to hear that his fracture has healed. That is great news! PIR is right around the corner for him!

Sonofabeach, my SRs PIR is at the end of March

Did everyone get their calls recently?

  • sonofabeach

I mean graduation from EOD school, actually, DoxieMom.  I wondered if there are any (other) mothers whose sons are finishing in May.

  • bKm

I have a question about PIR weekend for the SRs going to EOD prep. I know he has to go check in almost right after PIR but will my SR's liberty be different that weekend than other divisions or will he mostly have his weekend free since he isn't flying out?

  • Annabel Lee

Bkm, our SRs will have liberty all weekend if they are staying in Great Lakes after PIR. :) They have to be back at 10:00 each night. Processing after PIR will take 3-5 hours I read, but we can see them briefly after. Then Friday afternoon, eve.. after processing.
  • 2navykids

I was wondering after my SR will be done in Great Lakes for is eod class/training and goes to Florida are we able to go see him there or will he have a break in between to where he will come home for couple days?
  • Annabel Lee

2navykids, I had my son ask his recruiter before he left, and he said he could have visitors in Florida. I don't think they are able to come home...
  • 2navykids

Thank you Annabel lee I was just wondering when we could bring some of his stuff to him...will they be in apartments type living or ? Or will they not be able to have anything till after all their training? I guess I just trying to plan ahead.."don't mind a trip to Flordia at all
  • Annabel Lee

2navykids-I'm not sure about what he can have after PIR.. I've asked him in a letter, but I haven't received his answer yet... I dont mind a trip to Florida either! :)
  • sonofabeach

Hi Liberty -- I think the "accommodations" in Panama City were standard navy barracks, shared with one or two other guys.  Elgin is an Air Force base and the barracks there are really nice - more like staying in a hotel.  My son had a room to himself. Not sure if that is standard or not.

I brought a black backpack to my son's PIR and he made me take it home.  He bought a cell phone FIRST THING after graduation, and some new running shoes. Other than that, he said he didn't want to haul a bunch of stuff.  Eventually I sent him his car, which became like a mobile storage shed for mostly work out gear.  Priorities seem to change pretty quick at this stage of their lives, from my perspective.

It's great, though; and they all seem so happy and confident.

  • KJTsMomma

Hi All - my son is still at GL and should start EOD Prep next Monday.  He tells me that they can have cars (truck in his case) in PCB & Ft. Walton Beach (Eglin).  He doesn't know how long he will have between EOD Prep and when he needs to be at PCB.  Hopefully, a few days to be at home and then drive to PCB which is probably 18 - 20 hours from our home.  He also thought he'd only be up in GL for 3 weeks after PIR, but that changed to 6 weeks.  I think he said PCB would be 8 or 9 weeks then about 9 months at Eglin.  But we all know with how the government works - worse than us women changing our minds.  :)

  • KJTsMomma

Oh - FYI - don't take their cell phones and laptops etc. to PIR - they will call when they have moved over from Boot Camp to regular base.  My son walked out to the Navy Museum for us to pick him up.  Then my husband went back on base with him to sign him out (drove).  We were only able to drive on to the base with our Sailor in the car.  Then my husband could take him back to the new barracks & go in and sign him back in.  He was able to take the electronics back with him on that Friday evening. We did bring him a pair of jeans, a sweatshirt, sweatpants, & ll his own underwear (he was happiest about that).  I'm only a little ahead of some of you Moms so I'll try to help with what I've been thru this far.  :)

  • Annabel Lee

KJTsmomma, thanks for sharing! Was wondering about that! I just got a call from him, and it was so great!! He's doing well, sounded upbeat, and so determined to do this. I feel much better now....
  • 2navykids

This is such great info....I figured right after PIR my SR wouldn't want much..more when they go to Flordia....and KJTsMomma do you mean right after PIR don't give them their cell but later on when they are able to leave for the evening we can give it to them?
  • 2navykids

I feel so blessed and thankful I joined navy for moms to learn all this info you all are a wonderful bunch of ladies...there are questions I having answered that I didn't even know to ask...I do hope there is a couple days where he can come home before he heads to PCB...
  • KJTsMomma

Hi All - I wanted our son to talk to us, instead of his head into his phone.  So we left it at the hotel when we went to pick him up on PIR day after they moved to new barracks.  I figured then he'd have to talk to us and answer all our questions.  :)  He got his phone and ipad at the hotel and had a TON of FB messages and a TON of emails and the texts started flying.  So it may have been a bit onrey of me to not take it when we went to pick him up, but he wasn't upset and I enjoyed being able to chat with him without his phone in front of him.

Sunday - I think they can be picked up as early as 6 a.m. (and Sat. too) and returned by 10 p.m.  My son chose to sleep in a bit (I don't blame him).  I think hubby went to get him around 9 a.m. then we went out for breakfast and then to a movie at Gurnee Mills mall.  We are 3 hrs driving distance from GL so we dropped him off around 5:30 p.m. so we could get home at a decent time that evening.  I think he was ready for some R & R after a extremely busy 8 weeks of boot camp and a full weekend with us.  It feels better after PIR.  Now we can talk more often and text which makes this Navy Mom feel a little better.  Still miss him a TON, but at least there is more communication.  I'm only a little bit further than some of you Moms, but glad I can help.  I love this site - it really helped me thru the 8 weeks of BC.  Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll help if I can. I don't know the answer to "can he come home before PCB".  I hope so and hope to know that answer in the next 3 weeks.  I'll keep you posted.  :)

  • Liberty

KJT- That is an excellent idea to leave the phone at the hotel! I will also do that. We will be leaving on sunday and will have to take him back in the afternoon. I am sure that he will be tired as well. Thanks again!

  • 2navykids

My son just got a automatic contract for EOD he signs Monday...curious if his ship date will change....I figured this was coming but so many emotions going on as well...I am such a planner and detailed person...this site sure has helped with some of that..just wish I knew what to expect for him...

Hi Liberty! Yes, your son can wear contacts in Dive Prep.

    Good luck :-)

  • narob01

Hey Moms! My son restarts Dive School Monday. He blew out an eardrum and had to wait two months to start again. Does anyone else have a sailor starting in this class?

  • NJNavyMom

We had a New Jersey "Navy for Mom's" lunch today. Is there a NJ EOD Mom's group out there?

  • DJsmom

@brandonsmom I couldnt make the lunch today. Did you go? and I am not sure if there is a group like that but if there is one I will join it too

  • NJNavyMom

My son will be graduating from EOD School on July 30 2014--where can I get info on grad events, and does the school or Navy have info on lodging etc in the area? And what is best airport to fly into (price, location).  Thanks!

  • 2navykids

When they graduate from eod is that in SD?
  • NJNavyMom

We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Fort Walton Beach. It was right on the beach! Close to everything! We loved it there. Our son graduated in the winter, so we loved taking advantage of the beach. All the grad's  hung out a few beaches away from us!

All the families had dinner every night and it was such a great way to meet everyone!

  • Karenlee

2navykids, they graduate EOD from Eglin in Niceville FL. They finish up training at SD and then go to their duty station
  • sonofabeach

My son is graduating next month...then on to Georgia for jump school, somewhere else (MISSISSIPPI?) for small arms (I THINK) THEN SD, then duty station in Sept.

  • Karenlee

Hope everyone is doing well. For those who are coming to the end of your journey-congratulations to you and your sailor. To those that are graduating where are they headed? To the ones that are in Spain- how are they liking it?
  • sonofabeach

Karenlee -- my son will be in SD.

  • addy62

karenlee, my son loves spain.  he says being in an active unit is awesome

  • Annabel Lee

So many questions answered here! My son sounds so upbeat now... So excited for him. :) Liberty, and D-Hunter, A group of 12 went to the YMCA to practice in the pool yesterday, did your sons go?
  • DoxieMom

    Hi Annabel Lee,

Which division was your son in? Mine was EOD. I'm trying to find a couple of moms of my son's shipmates. Last names begin with W, E, and N.

    Liberty,

I missed meeting you at PIR last weekend. I heard you were Sarge's but I somehow misdeed you. I met so many N4M but was looking forward to meeting you. I have a newspaper clipping of the picture of your son from the blood drive. It's the one with the guys holding out their arms showing off their bandages. Let me know if you want it.

I'm so glad we are able to chat with our boys now. My son seems very happy to be out of BC. How is everyone doing?
