DoxieMom, my sone was in 811. His last name begins with J.
  • Annabel Lee

Liberty, my son doesn't have his fins yet either,... but he was able to borrow some. Maybe they'll get them soon! Happy Birthday to your daughter!
  • DoxieMom

I ordered fins for my son from Seavenger.com last Sunday. I received them on Friday and gave them to him on Saturday (fortunatley I only live 1.5 hours from GL so I was able to see him!). He said he still needs the other stuff. Wish he would have told me and I would have ordered them all at once.
Liberty, it was loud in there and so many people! BonnieCodysMom, Lupner, dHunter, and Tenacious said they saw you but could not find you when I was looking. So bummed. Happy Birthday to your daughter. My son's birthday is on Thursday. This will be the first year that I will not give him a birthday cake. I will not be able to make it to GL this weekend.

  • Annabel Lee

DoxieMom, that's great that u live so close to GL!
  • Brittany ( DIV 810 )

My husband doesn't have his fins yet either. I've been on the hunt for them since I left there last week. Found one place but it was gonna cost him 75$ for a taxi to go get them. I just got off the phone with frogg pond and hopefully their shipment will be in by tomorrow.
  • Liberty

Brittany- My husband had called several places. The place where he finally found them was called The Playground Dive Shop 816-220-7529. He bought the last pair of men's large. However, if you need a different size then call them. They gave us a Military Discount and sent them two day air for 14.00. He said that they were very nice. He received a message today from another place that he had called. The number to that one is 702-897-3866. Not sure if they have them or not but worth a try. My question is this...If this is equipment that they need then why on earth is it not stocked at the NEX? Doesn't this seem crazy that we are having to find something that is needed for their class? AND...where they told before boot camp that they would have to find them on their own? If they were (very possible) I never heard a thing about it! Seems like unnecessary stress. Good luck to everyone. Doxie- Mom- Happy Birthday to your son!!! April is such a beautiful time of year here for a birthday- I love it!

  • Annabel Lee

Liberty, my son said that they issue them when class starts, but since they had a while before class starts, he wanted to practice with fins, so he ordered them, but they haven't been shipped yet...probably on back order. He was able to borrow some last weekend, I hope he can again if his don't come in....
  • Liberty

Hi Anabel- I know that they issue them and perhaps they didn't realize that there would be so much time between graduation and the start of class. My son told us tonight that he still has not received anything that we ordered. So, tomorrow I have to call both places and get a refund on the express shipping. I will feel much better when he gets everything. My son he is ready to get to Florida and, also, ready to hear people say "Ya'll" ! Haha! I think he is OVER the weather up there!

  • Annabel Lee

Hi Liberty! My son is SO ready for Florida too! Hope they get their fins soon!
  • D-hunter

    Okay - guess I'm behind :)
Annabel Lee - my kiddo didn't go last week with the group ... He had duty that day :(
He said he's going to hit the pool tomorrow. Do y'all know when your boys r starting dive prep ???
  • Annabel Lee

D-Hunter, my son said that dive prep starts the 21st.
  • Annabel Lee

I miss him SO much.. It's great that we can text and talk, but this is going to take some getting used to! I miss talking face to face. And I miss his hugs. :(
  • JennaN92

Annabel Lee - I know what you mean! My husband is in Aschool and it's been such a change in life it's kind of shocking not being able to be involved like we were before. But I'm very proud of him, it's just different :)
  • Annabel Lee

JennaN92, we will adapt... I too am SO proud of my son! Some days are just harder than others.
  • JennaN92

I totally agree with you! I'm going Thursday to see my husband in great lakes :)
  • Karenlee

Liberty, the Navy should issue what your son needs for dive prep.
  • Liberty

Thanks Karenlee! That is good news!

  • Liberty

Okay- So he made it through the first week of Dive Prep. They started with 41 and by Friday there were just 20 left. Here is my question...Is the worst of Dive Prep behind him or is harder stuff coming up? I am unable to get much info from him and would love to know what is coming up. Thanks!

  • Karenlee

Liberty dive prep is hard most of the way through. If I remember correctly the first week has the highest drop rate but there will still be more cuts either by being asked to leave or some sailors will volunteering leave. I never got much out our son about dive prep because he didn't want me to worry. Will keep all in my prayers.
  • Liberty

    Thank you Karenlee!

  • sonofabeach

Congrats to this Friday's EOD graduates and their families.

  • Karenlee

Liberty, congrats on your son making it thru dive prep. If you go on you tube and type in 10-20 EOD you can see some of what they do in Panama City. That was the class my son was in.
Anyone have a son doing dive qualifications in Spain? My congrats to the new members of the EOD family too.
  • narob01

Liberty, did your son start dive school today? My son was rolled back and starts again today.

  • D-hunter

Made it through day 6 of dive prep - when can I start breathing a bit.... Liberty he said he was treading today with weights and tank ... Is there a final test or tests everyday?
  • narob01

Liberty, Yes my son was the one with the burst eardrum in the first week then he started again and failed a test on the second day of the second week. He got rolled back again. We are praying that the third time is a charm. When I say 'we' are praying. That's the hard part. Praying that he moves on into something that terrifies me.) His friends that have gone on have told him that he should stay in dive school as long as he can because EOD school is really rough.

About watching the videos. The pool week video where they are by themselves and being slammed around, Nathan said was fun. (Nuts, I know) The second day is the one he had trouble with. "Buddy Hitz". I try not to watch the videos either. At least until after he has passed it.

I'm glad to have another mom to communicate with this time. Best of luck and prayers for you and your son!

  • NJNavyMom

Just a quick question...Can we put magnets on our cars?
Navy Mom, Ribbons. I know nothing with EOD. My son said to keep a very low profile, but how low? Thanks everyone! I hope all is well for you all!

  • 2navykids

    Good question brandonsmom
  • nancyp

My son graduates EOD school at Eglin in July-do they have time off during that period? Anyone know activities surrounding graduation?

  • Karenlee

Brandonsmom, he can get you an EOD crab decal that we have on our front door below an in service decal. The only thing on my car is a small Navy sticker. To nancyp they do have some time off. We saw our son every night before he graduated. It has been over 3 years but if I remember correctly we left on the Saturday after graduation and he was headed to GA on Sunday, not sure how things work now.
  • nancyp

Thanks Karenlee! My son really didn't know the answer (no surprise there!) I'm arriving on July 26, leaving Aug 2nd-graduation July 30 or 31-so hope I will get time with him.

Do people dress up at all for graduation?

  • Karenlee

Nancyp, our son graduated in March so it was chilly that morning. I wore a skirt and blazer with my jacket over it. My husband wore a nice pair of pants and dress shirt-no tie. Most of the girls wore nice dresses. Where is your son going to be stationed after training? My son and dil will be back from Spain this fall. They will be in VA. Enjoy graduation and congratulations to your sailor and to you. It's a long journey but a very rewarding one.
  • NJNavyMom

    Thanks Karenlee!

  • NJNavyMom

For EOD graduation we all wore nice but casual clothing.

  • nancyp

Hello I have another question about EOD graduation on July 31.  I had thought about pinning the crab on my son but understand that is usually done by one of the officers.   Any comments?  Also any moms with sons graduating that day?

  • nancyp

Karenlee, my son will be stationed in Virginia, so guess he'll meet your son at some point.  I don't know if Im supposed to say which unit he will be in?

  • sonofabeach

Anyone who has info about graduation from tactical training in San Diego, could you PM me?

  • D-hunter

My son is in dive and just sent me a text "I just got my blue and gold" I sent back - that's awesome!!!!
But I have no clue what that means but I think it was a big deal :(
    Help ......
  • sonofabeach

Alrighty, then. I think I've posted 3 or 4 times and it's to The Void. Maybe this isn't a group for moms whose sons are already through EOD school and just want some non-emotionally inspired information.  I wish you all luck and your sons the best...nancyp, honey, do NOT try to pin anything on your son at his graduation. That will NOT go well for him.  Just a little tip from me to you.

  • Regina

Nancyp-  My husband pinned our son at EOD graduation    (Nov. 2012 ) and everything was fine.  I think your son can have anyone pin him, but I think it has to be arranged ahead of time, just ask him next time you talk to him things may have changed. Good luck to your son.  Do you know where he will be stationed?

  • NJNavyMom

    Sonofabeach

No one told me that this was a site for mothers of EOD's in training! Now that my son is finished with his formal training are you saying I should leave this group? I didn't see where it says for training only?  I would also appreciate not being called "The Void"

  • NJNavyMom

"This site is for mothers of kids in the U.S. Navy and for Moms who have questions about Navy life for their kids."

This is what is says on this EOD page.

    Sonofabeach, are you the administrator?

  • narob01

D-Hunter, my son just graduated from Dive School in Panama City and is moving to Elgin AFB today. He sent a group picture but I have no idea what blue and gold means. Sooo are our sons in the same class????

  • bKm

narob01 & d-hunter! My husband knows almost all of the guys in the class that just graduated! He was sick when the prep school started for those guys (in Great Lakes) and ended up being rolled to the class that just started. the blue & gold refers to the t-shirt they get!!! :) it's very exciting, can be considered a big deal, and most guys collect them. Congratulations on their graduation, i know they are excited!! :)

  • Braelen'smom

My son is no longer in the program, which makes me very sad for his sake (as it is something he desperately wanted, but just didn't quite make), but also for me because we all want to see our children reach their dreams.  I have stayed as a member of this group because I love hearing the updates and many questions the "newbie moms" have and the "veteran moms" answers.  I LOVED this group so much and was always given such encouragement and real expectations from these moms, especially brandonsmom, karenlee, and regina.  Any advice these women offer is very valuable and to imply they have no place on this site would be incredibly sad and a great loss to any of the new moms with questions.  That's all I have to say (guess I am a VOID, as well).  Thank you again brandonsmom, karenlee, and regina!!

  • narob01

Yikes girls, haven't been on in awhile so not sure what is going on but I know that I have greatly appreciated the comments and advice from the moms that have already been where I am now. Please don't go away.

My son just graduated dive school and moved to Elgin AFB today to start EOD school. I hope to be a help for those coming behind me.

  • D-hunter

narob01 - I thought my son said he had a couple of weeks left? he was really tired this week and barely texted but I'm headed to see him this weekend. I'm curious and I'll let you know...
bkm- thanks for the info I was trying to figure that all night what he meant but it seemed like a very big deal to him :)
  • narob01

bKm, Thanks! In the pic my son sent the t-shirt was blue with a gold emblem. Those are some short little shorts they wear!!! I know your husband will be glad to get through dive school and catch up to the others in EOD school. Thanks again for the info.

  • NJNavyMom

Thanks to the Mom's who appreciate the help from those who have walked in your shoes/hearts before! I know I appreciated it when I was there. We should be here to help and support one another. I honestly thought this was an "EOD" site for concerned Moms and Dads as well. Is there another EOD site for those of us in the "Void"?

    Sonofabeach, are you the administrator????

  • NJNavyMom

    Brandonsmom is now NJNavyMom

  • nancyp

sonofabeach & Kathy # 1 Fan,  the info you have is very valuable and helpful to Moms whose sons are in training.  You've been through the whole process!  I wouldn't think many moms would object!
