I'm new. My son called last night and said he had passed 1 of the two hardest test at Eglin. He said the last one will be hard but after he is basically EOD. He will still be at Eglin until April but the rest are not nearly as hard. Proud but miss him so much it's bittersweet. Does anyone know if they get any time off after completely finished training? Proud mom but miss miss miss him, sorry if I misspell I'm literally half blind and getting worse eye disease no pity it is what it is right. Thanks
Sharon, my son has been EOD for a little over 3 years. When he finished school at Eglin they left that weekend for jump school at Benning, then went to MS and onto San Diego to finish up training. Not sure if they still do things the same way. He graduated on on wed (I think) and we spent a couple more days with him before we had to come home. Does he know where he will be stationed? Mine was in Spain for 3 years and have just recently have arrived stateside. We are happy that he is "home". Prayers to you and your sailor as he continues on his journey.
Karenlee- EOD training is still the same as you described below for Sharon. My son recently graduated in May, went to Ft. Benning, Miss, and then to San Diego for helicopter jumps. There was about 6-7 weeks between May grad and completing helicopter jumps. He then had ~ 2 week leave before he had to report to his 1st station, San Diego, where he is currently. Sharon, hope you can get some time with your son before he has to report to his 1st station.
Welcome Sharon! We went town for our son's graduation and spent about four day's in Destin. After training is completed as Karenlee stated, they get time off before leaving for their stations. My son is as happy as can be!!! We are not a brave as he is! He loves what he does
My son is set to graduate from EOD in June if all goes as planned. I was wondering how long we would have together as well. Thank you for the info ladies.
QMGsmom, hopefully the time will go fast. My son was deployed twice before EOD and will be leaving in June with his unit for a 6 month deployment. This is never easy but know that they have each other's back and then some. Hope you will be able to email or skype. Send care packages if you can, between him being on the Ronald Reagan and stationed overseas for 3 years, the people at the post office got to know me pretty well. Will keep you and your sailor in prayer during this new journey.
Thank you for the words of encouragement. From what he tells me, he will have Wi-Fi and can Skype. I hope I get some time, I have to share with the gf, lol
Hello EOD Moms! My son just arrived this week at BC. I just received my "box" and am anxiously waiting for my form letter. I am so grateful for this site and the chance to connect with others who are experiencing the same feelings/thoughts.
Welcome to the new Moms. The start to being an EOD tech is a long road filled with many highs and lows. To the ones who sons are starting in BC with a contract know that the whole process is one of weeding out which starts with dive prep after BC. My son was in the fleet before he applied for EOD. The 15 months that he was doing dive prep and school was a long and hard process. I shed many tears both of happiness and sadness. The journey is full of ups and downs. Not trying to sound negative but few are chosen. I will keep everyone in thoughts and prayers as you begin this journey which in the end is one of the best journeys you can take.
Hope everyone had a good 4th. Mine is out of the country so he missed another 4th which is his favorite holiday- go figure, likes to blow things up! Hope all is going well whether in school or at their station.
We got to spend the holiday together this year. That won't be the case next year. We enjoyed every minute of it together!
Everything is progressing with training?
Hi to everyone! I also hope all is well with everyone and hope to see more postings. It's been quiet here!
Glad you got to spend the holiday with your sailor. Mine will be gone until the end of the year but is still having a good time doing what he does. he is looking at another deployment next summer and then the plan is to move on to the school house for a 2 year stint. He will re-up this year. What are your sailors up to and what are their plans? Hope everyone has a good day.
Mine leaves January. I'll be a wreck! He also loves what he does, but I'm not as brave as he is. I honestly thought I'd see more wimpy Mom's likes me here. How do you handle the mom fear?
I have not gotten over the mom fear. It is always in the back of my mind but I don't dwell on it. My husband has always said accidents can happen at anytime and we made it through the teenage years and these guys have a lot more common sense then he did back then so I just go with the flow. hope you will be able to skype while he is gone. I love Skype! Just being able to see them makes a big difference.
Thank you for for sharing your very sensible thoughts. I'll definitely have to adopt your views - as that is the only way I'll stay somewhat sane!Lol! I'll probably live for Skype.:-)
Hi Prayermom. My son will soon be deployed. Many of us have been where you are now. We are all here for one another. This is a great site. When you need help, there is always someone here who can help you. ⚓️⚓️
Hello Prayermom, I am not from Texas but like NJNavyMom said. We have been where you are now and will help in any way we can. Mine has been EOD for 4 1/2 years now and loves it. He is currently deployed. I will keep you and your son in prayer as you begin the next journey.
Hello everyone. I joined this group around last Aug. when my son got to Panama City for Dive school. He's now at Eglin starting area 8. Expects to graduate in Sept. Then on to Ft. Benning. It was pretty quiet on here those first few months. Good to see others have questions & concerns like I do. The common factor I see in these threads is that our sons LOVE what they are doing....And THAT gives me peace. If my son is happy....I'm happy. Just wanted to pop in & say Hi.
Hi NavyMom! It really is good to see some dialogues here! I couldn't figure out the heart in your Mom. My hearts are too big. Lol!
My son has never been so happy!
All, Its great to see your comments, my son is also leaving Panama City on Thursday to go to Pensacola to begin EOD school after completing dive school. We were hoping to go see him for the day on Thursday but it sounds like they are getting out right away so we cancelled our trip. I am hopeful we will get a short visit in at some point in Pensacola.
Thanks to everyone for the comments, support and information. This sight continues to be of great help for Moms! We are beginning our EOD journey, so I look forward to staying in contact with you all. Eagle, it appears we are at the exact same stage in training. Hope we can fill in the "gaps" for each other.
Ladies, glad to see Mom's on this site. I try to check once in awhile to see what is going on. If you have questions we will all try to help. My son has been out of school for 4 plus years and I know they changed up some things. They still do dive at the beginning and end but have changed the way some of their courss are at Elgin. Will keep everyone in thought and prayer as you begin this journey.
If your son/daughter is at Eglin in Nov. I HIGHLY recommend planning a visit to see them the weekend of Nov. 6 - 7. The Blue Angels will be putting on a Homecoming show at Pensacola Beach. Make hotel reservations NOW. I just got back from seeing them perform at Pensacola Beach this past weekend. I recommend going to the Naval Museum also. So Cool! http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/
Have fun at your lunch ladies. I would recommend see your sailor when they are in school. Destin is beautiful and the Naval Museum is fun. My son is hoping to be back at the school house for his next station and we hope he gets it so we can go back and visit.
My son usually found out if & when he got holidays off days if not a week or two before the holiday.
He usually got the holidays off, just cost us a fortune flying him home.
If I remember my son came home for Christmas, just turn in to have the Christmas time off and went back before the next leave period. He did not come for Thanksgiving. Prayers out to the Marine families.
Hello, any moms out there with a son at Little Creek, VA? My son has been there since last December. There is a Little Creek group but it doesn't appear to be current. Thanks.
Karenlee, I received your message and responded last night but may not have done it correctly, as apparently you didn't get it. I'm not that savvy about how this works. I'll try to figure it out later. My son is in the same unit as yours, not deployed yet, so I would like further info, but to correspond by email, as my son is very private. Thanks.
