Was fortunate to see my son yesterday, took him some home items that he is permitted to have. Planning on spending the 4th on base with him and any others in a school that want to join. Truly blessed to be so close, for now.
Burgota Thank you, at least I did get to spend some time with him over the weekend. I pushed back my flight another day to I could. We had a nice time hanging out.
Brettsmom, not much that I could tell. Brought him a tv, game console, laptop, and his own underware, lol, hates the white tighties. They Don not have Internet in there rooms though.
Okay, tomorrow's the day . . . Eric goes to the Dr. to find out if he's cleared to move onto "A" school. So I'm asking for prayers and good thoughts to be sent out for him, please. : )
Okay, so I finally heard from Eric and we still don't know anything. They drew his blood this morning and told him to come back on Monday to get the results. Don't they understand that his mother is going crazy!! LOL So need to learn how to get into "Navy" mode. : ) I'm still not good at this hurry up and wait stuff.
It's official, my Sailor FINALLY gets to move onto A school!!! He called late last night to let me know. Now we just wait to find out when they will send him. Hopefully it's in the next couple of days. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. : )
I just wanted to thank all the mom's who told their Sailors that my son was at Goose Creek. Your son's found mine and made him feel so welcome and wanted, even though he was a month late getting there. You are wonderful people and angels to my son and I. : ) Thank you.
Hi Ladies. I've been reading your posts about all the schools your sons and daughters are going to and most of you probably don't know at this point where their permanent duty station will be, but I just wanted to let all you moms know that if they ever get stationed in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area in VA., I thought I'd let you know that my husband and I have been inviting sailors (and soldiers and Marines) over to our home for the last 14 years to give them a place to go on the weekends and hang out, play board games and of course we feed them! :) My husband is a retired Navy Chaplain (also spent his first 10 years enlisted) so we have a heart for the military. You can check out our page on this website or go to our website at www.openbibleministries,com to see all the things we do together.
It is taking time for him to adjust but he he is doing very well in school. I just sent him some home made cookies, enough to share with his shipmates. He said he was going to warm them in the microwave for everyone this weekend. :)
Thank you. My son seems to be having trouble adjusting. He is so nervous. He is going for E T. I keep trying to encourage him, I know he is a little home sick also. I keep telling him that once he gets into a routine, it will get better. He hasn't started his classes yet, maybe next week. But he does have requirements to do by next week. Everyone there seems very nice and helpful.
I sent a care package with dry ice and some home cooked frozen dinners to my sailor today along with brownies a GAMECOCK t-shirt and a couple other small items. It cost me $160 from SC to CA. He is homesick and missing home cooked food. I thought it would cheer him up a bit, but REALLY? I could have flown to CA and hand delivered it for that much!! What is the best shipping option without breaking the bank???
Hi all, my son in Florida now his classes font state for two weeks.he is happy and enjoying it so far.i was wondering should I send him a iPad or laptop for school I Gus's laptop
He had medical issues while at bootcamp which caused him to miss out on a graduation ceremony (PIR). We are missing him alot and wanting to visit him. We are just not sure how, when or where to start.
Hi Gigi, I am originally from Phoenix and my son is at A school in Great Lakes as well. He had a little over a week between PIR and school. He spent his time getting situated so he made a few trips to the Nex for things like shampoo, toilet paper, clothes soap, etc. He worked out, went to the library to pick up some books to read and volunteered to keep busy.
Hello. My son is still at RTC but will be going to San Antonio for A school. How long will he have between the two? Also does he report to SA first or can he come home in between?
My son will be graduating boot camp on 10Oct and will be heading to Pensacola Florida for A school. We are excited to see him on Friday and spend some time with him. He has already wrote and told us he will be leaving for A school the day after graduation. Wish we had more time to be together before he leaves for A school.
My son is in A school at Groton Conn. Anyone else have a son at Groton or had a son already go through Groton that can offfer advice on getting thorugh A School?
My son is there also. He arrived on 10/4. He said it is very different because at boot camp, someone told you what to do 24/7. He seems to have settled in and has learned what time he can get haircuts, get his mail, eat, etc.
NovaMom, yes I do. My son has been in Pensacola since April. Unfortunately after trying 3 times he was removed from that rate and re rated. He has been in holding since 9/15. He just called 5 min ago to tell me he is classing up tomorrow. He has been doing barrack support most of the time. It has been a roller coaster ride for him. Hope this is the "perfect" fit for him. Good luck with the wait.
Just left the airport seeing my son off to A-school. Graduation was yesterday so I only got to spend a few hours with him. He had watch last night so our day was cut short but we made the best of it.
If any of you moms have sons or daughters going to A-School here in Norfolk/Virginia Beach and they can't go home for Thanksgiving or Christmas my husband and I would be happy to invite them over to our house! Go to our page on this site and you will find out more about us.
My Daughter is in Great Lakes IL A-School & I wanted to know if there were any organizations that may be able to help a navy mom on a very limited income go see her sailor daughter at A-school for the holiday. I hate asking about this kind of stuff but I will for her. She said they have a fairly long break. Does anyone know of any low cost hotels near there or how I would even be able to get transportation while I was there? Taxi? Bus? I barely get by on the income I receive but I long to grant my sailor daughter's wish to see her navy mom for the holiday. I don't even own a vehicle or I would just make the drive myself from PA. Any idea's or help would be very much appreciated. I pray our Heavenly Father will make a way where there seems to be no way and to abundantly bless those who can help. I shall also continue to pray for safety, wisdom, & comfort for all our military personnel & their families. Blessings to y'all! (I think I'm going to make some phone calls locally here this week to the red cross and just anyone who may be able to help. I won't give up and even if I don't get to see her, at least I can say I tried my best.)
Bobbisue
Sorry to hear your predicament. Why don't you ask your daughter to come visit you. She qualifies for military discounts for the flight and it will be cheaper since she is coming home obviously there will be no hotel. She had earned at least 7 leave days by now.
So sorry to hear you couldn't be there for PIR. :( I agree amity109 that your daughter may be eligible for some time off over the holiday. It may be easier and less expensive in the long run for her to go home. And you would both be able to share Christmas with friends/family.
Actually she just had her PIR the day before Thanksgiving so as far as I know she is not allowed to leave. She in on the first & most strict level. She had her first day of A-School on Mon the 1st of Dec. so I would need to go to her. This is what my understanding is at the current time. It's not gonna happen unless I can get help though & sad to say our family will not help. I may have to wait til she comes home in April sometime to see her. I would do the gofundme site but I really can't do that either being on assistance. I hate being on assistance but really have no choice in my situation as I'm on disability. I can not accept cash without reporting it & then of course they adjust the income accordingly. I get by month to month as it is & my daughter knows that but the best way to receive help is for the actual bus, or train tickets to be purchased & to actually have the hotel reservations made & paid for by the generous, loving soul(s) our Heavenly Father sends. I say it that way because we have nothing to give others until HE first give to us. I appreciate the feedback & would appreciate prayer. Our Heavenly Father will make a way if it is to happen. Blessings to you all & my prayers for your sailor, each of you, and your families.
I'm bursting with happiness & thanksgiving right now because guess who got permission to visit over her holiday vacation!? My beloved DD is coming home from Navy A-School! She was like "but I'll only get to visit you for one day." & I'm like "that's YAHsome cause I prayed "Even if it's only one day ABBA, please make a way for me to see my DD over her holiday vacation." WOO HOO!!! & HalleluYAH!!!" \o/ I had to let y'all know...I danced & sang praises knowing our Heavenly Father has HIS hand in this. I personally see every as a gift from HIM but this was a pick me up that I so desperately needed! :D
Good morning all! Does anyone know the rules for A school about personal items a Sailor may keep in his room? My son won't be home for Christmas, so he can save his leave up for later, so I want to send him some Christmas packages. If you can direct me to this information, I would be very grateful! Thank you!
Hello everyone my daughter just had her PIR on December 12 and is now in Pensacola it was so great to finally hug her!! too brief tho. Wishing she can come home for Christmas but got the news she can't. Im sure Santa will find his way to her!!
I was wondering if any of you know If a sailor can take their car to A school. I know they fly from BC to school but could someone drive it to them & they allowed to keep it?? Also please , is there any come home time during A school (weekends off maybe) or do we need to wait till see where stationed next? Thank you all for the help
I have a son graduating sometime around there. He didn't know the actual date. He is a E T. He says he won't know where he will go until he gets his orders.
Hi Ladies :) I came on to ask the same question- what can they take to A school. I know it's only phone, computer, ipad but not clothes. However, I thought I read somewhere that they need to take underwear (or am I mistaken). Thanks :)
It depends mostly on how much storage space they have at A school and how strict their commanding officers are. They start A school in phase one. No civilian clothes in public, etc. Once they phase up which only takes a couple of weeks , they get more privileges. My son has lots of civilian clothes with him and some other personal items also, like a quilt I made him. But he has space to lock it all up when he isn't in his room. Your sailors will know the rules and how much space they can use.
Good Morin, I've just join this group great info my daughter will be going to A school she is graduating 3/20/15 then off to Pensacola, any information i'd love with the underware, can we mail them asap when they get there?
