O.k. - T's Mom since I had to do a double take to make sure that was you, I updated my picture also. This was last Wed.'s graduation.
Jacqueline - I wouldn't change a thing either! Only because I know it's temporary and I'm going to be sitting here this time next week crying that I miss him.
Pam, How pretty you look with your Handsome Sailor...sure hope our cubs meet up next week...we will have to make sure of it when they class up!! I decided that I would put myself out there. lol
I love your new picture! I got tired of looking at that bright yellow top I had on at a wedding we went to back in June. My husband tried to tell me it was toooo bright! Of course, I didn't listen to him. Ha, ha! Have a wonderful time with your son this weekend.
Pam, Thank You for the compliment...It's like My right of passage to show my own identity now that T has made it into a navy corpsman title and I know that it is a lot easier to put a face with the personality!! lol
T called early this morning and he said he is wondering around base with nowhere to go until 1300 hours when the bus will pick a bunch of them up and take them to the airport in Chicago. He then will hurry up and wait for his flight to San Diego and then a 5 hour drive home...makes for a really long day.
The same happened to Jamie. The shuttle was at 1:00 but his flight didn't leave until 6:30 p.m. Then my flight came into Atlanta 15 minutes after his, had to go find my luggage because it was put on an earlier flight and then got caught in construction traffic on our way home! We finally got home that night around 11:30 p.m. Luckily though my car was already at the airport in Atlanta!
Good Morning Pam, When they say the Navy motto"hurry up and wait" it is in every aspect of the military.
Gosh, can you believe the crazy weather in Arizona...wow!! They got 4 tornado's in one day when usually they may see that the whole year...there saying.
Carol, Did you say"Gary Sinise"??? Yes I have a bit of a crush on him...I'll admit, and he can preform on stage as well as act in the movies and Big screen!!
Jacqueline, Yes it is real close about 8 miles away...T is to cheap to pay the 200.00 the airlines want to charge...one way!! It turned out for the better, this way Hubby can visit with his new Corpsman!!
Hi all! Sounds like many of you just went through A school grad. I get to go next week!!! just wondering if there in any imput or advice anyone would like to share! Thanks!!
Carol, T stood around all morning sometimes walking the halls waiting for word to muster up to board the bus to ORD airport...Once there wait some more to board flight to San Diego Airport...just arrived Hubby picked him up on the way to Chipole to get a bite then get on the 101 hwy north home... They will probably walk in about 1 or 2 am.
thanks all! i just can't wait! almost there! i will be looking forward to it! i am the only one that is able to go out of his family and such so on the plus side i get him all to myself... :)
Thanks Carol. I'm excited but I had a rough day today...Started with a call from my youngest, she went to a party in Santa Maria(40 min fro home) last night got drunk, her ride left her after she put a 20 in the gas tank she fell down a flight of stairs banged up her knee and wanted me to drop everything..2 scheduled appts. for the day, shopping for T's favorites and because I left "my girls" 10 yr old dogs with my daughters pup 7 mo. Ziggy in the house for 4 hours and yes, he did his best to clutter up a clean house. I ended up locking my keys in the car after Hubby asked if I could go and look at a paint color on a house...I evidently parked on the red, had to call triple A to unlock, missed my physical thereby appt.Which I really needed it today...OMG what a day, came home stressed out after the drive to Santa Maria and found a perfectly messy home from Ziggy the pup and now I'm waiting for my Sailor...Can anybody beat MyDay?!
How did you know about the feet up and a glass of wine in my hand...Because it was that kinda day!! I usually have wine a couple times a month...not much of a drinker, one 2 many when I was in my twenties. Do you ever sit down at the end of the day and wonder WHY...you had to live through that day?! I always try to ask myself, self what did you learn from this, what was the message?!
Looks like T's gf is driving out to visit, she lives in Las Vegas. It's a good 6 hour drive for her...I don't think she cares as long as she gets to spend time with him.
Judy - I'm sure yesterday's fiasco is a distant memory (at least I hope it is) now that your son is home. I'm sorry, but I had to giggle because my day was pretty bad from the get-go yesterday also. My husband even called me at lunch time mad about something and by the time I got off the phone with him he was laughing because what he was mad about was nothing compared to what I had expierenced that morning. But, hey it's Friday, our boys are home, your daughter made it home in one piece and our dogs are well-fed, content animals. LOL, it can't get much better than that right?? I try not to set my sights toooo high anymore!!
Have a great day. Only a couple more days until Jamie is on his way to Cali. Gosh, I'm missing him already.
Good Morning Moms, My corpsman the sailor man is home safe hooray!! He came in last night around 12:30 am. Boy was he a sight for sore eyes, couldn't stop looking at him and touching him as if "are you really here"!!
Carol, Miss Katie T's gf will be here some time today.
Aww Pam, Sorry about your day day yesterday...just know you were not alone. lol
Carol, What a relief for C plans all coming together and the contact with his sponsor, I'm sure made him feel connected again!!
We will enjoy Tristan's company starting today until we drive him back to CP on Tuesday. He is so used to only a few hours sleep that he only got that many. Played with the new 7 month old pup Ziggy that my daughter brought home at 3 months...they got on as if they new each other this whole time. lol
Ok - so I suggested to Jamie the sunblock on his ears last night and I got the eye's rolling and the "I don't need ANY sunblock - I'm a man!" What a hoot!! He said there was a guy in bootcamp that didn't go outside without putting it on and everyone used to snicker. I told him at least HE listened to his Mama. Again, the eye's rolled and he informed me with a snear that the "kid" was 35!! Oh my......
Hmmm....Jamie and his Dad went to the Georgia Tech football game today. I bet both of them "men" come home with red faces. And I'll be sitting there with my smug "told you so!"
Carol - if the eye rolling ever stops, I would like to know!
But, we only have two more full days before he heads to Camp P. Then I'll be wishing for some more eye rolling! Well, maybe because he's leaving his clothes all over my house!! Slipped back into the old ways real quick! He even said today he had to get back to base because it didn't even feel like he was in the military since being home.
We just had a heart to heart about it. I'm stressing about it, but he's excited. I believe this October FMTB class is going to be very large. So many are going. Jamie was suppose to go to Italy first but two weeks before he graduated A School (9/29) he found out he had to go through FMTB first. He's sooo ready to get back to a routine.
Goodness Ladies...I seem to find myself in good company tonight!! You have one more cub joining FMTB on Wednesday. Tristan said about the same amount of sailors from his A school, 6 of them total. He is off to a party in his honor...It is going to be fun to see if he can resist going all out partying...at least he has a designated driver...his gf Katie. She traveled from Las Vegas.
Pam, I'm not going to tell you I know your emotions as Carol does...but I am here for you...and I would love to here stories from Italy in the future...but lets get them through FMTB...right. lol
Thanks everyone! We're having a huge party today for Jamie and then one more day before he heads out. I know he'll be home for Christmas, but then it's going to be a long 2-3 years... Gosh Carol 18? Jamie is 20. Fun stuff for him!
Hello all! I haven't been on here for awhile either. Joe will begine FMTB this week too. Then off to Japan. What do you all know about graduation? I know nothing. My problem ..... he doesn't care if he talks to us or not. As long as he keeps in contact with his friends, he's happy. I've known that he is more of a rebel, but I hoped he would realize how his being in the Navy affects those of us who love him most. I think I've "cut the apron strings", but is it too much to ask for a little respect from him? I am proud of what he is doing, but my heart is broken because he his turning his back on us. So ladies..........what do I do?!
Joe's Mom Hello, I'm with Carol on this one. You are not alone when it comes to understanding our cubs head...All I know is my T's heart is in the right place when it comes to Family thank goodness, but it's alarming I just found out after discussing the going on with the horrible fighting and casualties & the Corpsman who was killed by an IED and the posts about who would be joining him at FMTB ( gave names) his response was "So...I don't care...I have enough to worry about, I'm with my GF right Now", I was so disgusted with him just now I had to leave the room!!
Thanks, Ladies. I have to admit I haven't been on here lately because I am jealous of the relationships you all have with your sailors. It's not all bad, but I know the time is coming soon when he won't be able to talk to us very often and he is missing his opportunity now. We text a couple times a week, but I have asked him to call on weekends- which has happened once since he got to CP on Sept 1. I have called him and was able to talk to him one other time, and left several messages. He texted his dad today and said he'd call tonight- it's about 9:15 our time now (7:15 for him) so I don't know if we'll hear from him or not. He often cuts me short even with texting because he's "hanging out with friends" and doesn't want to talk to me. I find myself hardening my heart because I know how much it's gonna hurt when he goes overseas. Face it, I'm a mess! A friend of mine is always joking about having to pray harder for me in December because I have to cut the apron strings. She doesn't realize how much that hurts me- it's much deeper than that. People who don't have a close loved one in the military just don't get it, do they? Thanks again for letting me vent. It really does help! Love to all~
Joe's Mom - I feel for you. My son will spout off at the mouth every now and then and hurt my feelings. I can tell you that young men have attitudes and being in the military only makes that attitude worse. I know this from experience since my husband and I were 20 when we met and got married. He was in the Army at the time and boy, let me tell you he was BAD! Part of it is the stress the military keeps the kids under. Part of it is being a young male. Alcohol just intensifies it. Stay strong!!
Jaqueline, Come to find out that T and gf were looking at engagement rings yesterday...Moms intuition I telling you LOL because I had a sneaky feeling that was next, I guess I did a "Debbie Downer" and he didn't want me to ruin the weekend!!
Ruth, Thanks for your words of wisdom...Really, you can take me from my doubting my motherly unconditional love for my cubs; to wait "I am a Great Mom", and he will come to his senses..damit anyway!!
This time tomorrow Jamie will be in Camp Pendelton. He is really looking forward to it. Do they have an in-processing days like A School? He was thinking the first couple of days was going to be spent going over the dos and don'ts.
well, ladies, I feel better! Got a call a little while ago- talked for 35 min. He's been busy, of course, getting ready to head to FMTB tomorrow. He's excited about the future. I "ordered" him to call on weekends! You all have NO idea how much you have helped me, knowing that I'm not the only one who is/has gone through this. I will try to keep my chin up and be more patient. Thank you again for your support. Hope everyone's sailors are doing well!!
You are right, Carol! Joe said something about 3 divisions. And he doesn't sound too thrilled about the barracks! He got used to having privacy, but that's gonna change ;)
Good Morning, It's going to be a "beautiful day in the neighborhood", I can feel it!! Because All our Corpsman will be starting their FMTB..Yay!! It sure would be nice to have/start a list of corpsman going to Camp Pendleton or maybe we all can sign in tomorrow as are Corpsman will this way we can match names with Moms, and have no problem getting on here and share phone calls, text and Mail from our Corpsman...just a thought. I'm horrible at remembering names...numbers come easier then names..."I know, I'm just built that way!! So shoot me. LOL
We are getting ready to say our goodbye's as Jamie prepares to leave to join up with the others already at Camp P for FMTB. As a Mom I don't think it's ever going to get easy!! He's excited so that makes me feel better.
I got a call as he was sitting on the plane ready for take-off!! Most of the guys he knows from his class are there already. Whoever the travel agent is at Great Lakes really has him cutting it close.
hi all, just wanted to say that i will be on here a lot more often in about a week or two. i am just about to fly out to see him grad and then we will be going to CP! yay! hope all is well!
It was a long day yesterday but now my son is ready to begin his FMTB training. I'm sure I won't hear from him as much since they'll be really busy. Countdown for us begins until we see him again.
Good Morning All, We finally made it to CP yesterday. As T was walking in his dress blues (so Handsome) with his file through the parking lot he came upon a Commander with a trunk load of store bags "She" was struggling to get into the building...He asked her if he could help, I guess...It was the building where they check-in. Well after what seemed to be forever T came back to the car and all I said is"T, you are such a gentleman...I'm so proud of you", then he said I only have an hour before muster...Let's Eat!!
I wanted to clear up my meaning from my last post! I envisioned us Moms/GF's/Wives keeping up with our Corpsman kinda like they do using acronyms and first initials when posting about the going on over there...I'm just interested in sharing good/bad news from there...that is where I was going with it.
Judy - Those dress blues (black?) are so nice. Until you have to use the restroom!! Holy smokes, 13 buttons!! And typical boy, food on the mind!! I'm glad T made it o.k. I am going to make a few tweaks to my user name for security.
On a second note, If your Sailor will be headed overseas I just found out that it's a very good idea for the Sailors to apply for their passport if they don't have one yet. Jamie was under the impression that his Military ID would be fine, but for his safety he needs to use a passport when he's sightseeing in Italy/Europe.
P-Bear's Mom, My T will be in the same platoon...I will friend you (to be safe) if you like. I think Carol's corpsman will be in the same platoon also...the more the merrier I say. lol
Pam, Yes, they are black...why do they call them Blues?! Oh, that's why he took so long in the bathroom...All those buttons. LOL Great advice on passports...Thanks Judy
Marianne, 29 palms is 1 hour from Las Vegas, the middle of the desert. It's called "Hells Country" where I'm from(the coast) cause there is nothing nice about that base, kinda like afgahn.
I hadn't thought about passports! My guy is middle alphabet, so he won't be in with P-Bear and T. Guess all of our thoughts are in the same place today. I'm thinking I will change my ID on here, but look for the pic, you'll know it's me!
HAJoe's Mom - It was a new one on me. In fact, since I don't have one I need to apply for one just in case something were to happen to Jamie while he is overseas. I wouldn't be able to get to him if we were needed. Although, I'm finding out the cost is around $135. Gosh.
Hello all I am fairly new to this group and it is my first post. My son started his FMTB training yesterday so I am guessing he is the same platoon as some of you have recently posted. He said he would call me this weekend so I will ask him what platoon he is in. I am looking forward to hanging out with all of you while our kids go through training.
Welcome Coco...I love that name!! There will be 3 platoons. Platoon 1 will hold alphabet letters 1 thru 8, platoon # 2 8 thru 16 and platoon #3 16 thru 26 respectfully. So pick the number corresponding to the letter of the alphabet your last name starts with and there you have no guessing!! lol And I look forward to sharing this roller coaster with you!!
