Isn't that the truth!! I find myself rewording my statements ti T so I don't bring out the attitude or tone in his voice that sound curt. You know what I mean...T knows I am a visual person and when I think of him hurting anywhere on his person I can actually feel his pain...it's the motherly instincts I guess!!
Carol I think that is so cool, to sense when C will call you...I love being that close with my children too!! There is just something about the mother and son relationship T called me tonight and said "I don't have time to talk long, I just wanted to tell you I love you Mom" and I'm checking in!!
They don't call it mother's intuition for nothing!! It's a strange thing but it does happen! I knew about my younger son's car accident before we even knew there was an accident. J did say that they moved around bunks. His platoon is all together now. Whenever I start giving J advice I either put it in question form or I start with "I'm not in your business, but...." LOL - he's still hard headed! He just found out that a friend of his from High School just joined the Navy. This friend is taking the ASVAB (? I can't remember how to spell that) today. They have reconnected which is kind of nice and J has been handing out the advice to him.
Does anyone know how Thanksgiving is going to work? I'd love to buy J a plane ticket home and that really needs to be done now. I wonder if they'll shut the FMTBclass/base down.
Good Morning, The question about Thanksgiving, looks like the corpsman will get a 4 day weekend, that's if your corpsman doesn't have watch.
Pam, That's crazy that you knew about your sons accident, I hope he wasn't hurt!!
Chief, When I asked T what they had in store for the rest of the week, he said the same as bc but worse...hardly no sleep, lots of PT standing around in attention for over an hour then more lecture on taking care of them selves.
J said they had them scattered throughout the barracks and they stayed in the same area, just all in one place if that makes sense. Yes, just pulled Delta and San Deigo to Atlanta is almost $550. It's so hard to purchase in advance though because you don't know if they'll have duty!
$30 for a cab? That's expensive, my son is also wishing he had a car, but i told him to wait until he's finished with fmtb. My son graduated A school August 12.
Judy - my son was fine. A night in the hospital and three weeks of ultrasounds on his spleen, but he was very lucky. I was full of questions for J last night. I think we must have talked for an hour. There is a service for discount tickets but I can't remember the name. He told me about it a couple months ago. I'll mention it when I talk to him again.
Pam, I went to Booking Buddy and found these prices: One travel #372.00, US airways $398.00, Expedia $409.00 All prices are with taxes...hope this helps!!
Those are great rates Judy and Jacqueline. Leave it to Delta to be the most expensive, but it is a direct flight. We'll soon be getting Southwest here in Atlanta since they are taking over Airtran. Delta and Airtran have had a monopoly in Atlanta.
Chief - yes, my younger son was in a horrific car accident two years ago. Lots of healing done in that time, mentally and physically, but he's fine now. I just mentioned it because of the "feelings" that Mom's can get.
That's awful Chief! I burned through 6 weeks of vacation this year with Jamie's two graduations, a wedding and vacation. Come on January so I can get it all back! I have four days of vacation, but can't justify spending the money since I went to A School grad just a couple weeks ago. Who knows though, I may just decide to head over there for a weekend!
Thanks JLC. And congratulations on your son reaching Test 12. He should be very proud of his accomplishment.
I hadn't even thought about Thanksgiving! It's a given that J won't be able to come home. I just hate the thought of him bumming around base for 4 days. Hopefully he'll have duty so others can go home. I started listening to Christmas music today (a little nuts, huh?). Had to skip past "I'll be home for Christmas", because it was making me cry already!
Pam, passing score is a 80...I know!!, so your cub is safe. T text this afternoon that he passed the test with a 90 score. I could here the ....Whew!! in his voice, cause he hasn't had to much time to study...
Good grades are all around, it sounds like! Fantastic!! I haven't heard from my J, but I'd told him not to worry about getting in touch until the weekend. I keep sending him texts asking questions, so I hope I remember to ask again when he calls.
Chief. Hearing from your corpsman is a wonderful thing even at 3am...good news I hope, I mean all is well?!
Cheryl, That is a super score a 96 wow...someone had time to study!! Yah
Becky, I'm sure we will hear from your J and my T this weekend. Tuesday night I didn't hear from T the usual way...either text or by phone. So yesterday I checked my FB cause I hadn't been there for awhile and guess what I found...A message from T it went something like this" Hey Mom, I just wanted you to know I think that your the best mom a sailor could have. Without the support of you and Dad, I don't think I could do the whole Navy thing. I love and respect you so much". I was floored and did the Navy Happy Dance all morning!!
P-Bear's Mom, I know what your feeling about the "hell" our corpsman are experiencing right now, but we have to remember that they have learned how to balance there time and right now it's "putting one foot in front of the other". It's only one more day before the weekend...Your young one has a whole platoon full of buddies who will make sure he gets through it...One more day Mama!!
Good Morning Moms, I am among you all who didn't receive a phone call, text or a hit on facebook...Soooo it looks like Jacqueline(Hi Jacqueline) is correct in here predictions. I'm on pins & needles wondering how bad my corpsman got beat up! This week...
Thanks Jacqueline! Maybe they'll get some rest and get energized over the weekend. I got Monday's rundown and it was grueling. Even for a 20 year old!!
Carol, your so funny!! I know, I would be just as upset as you are...even more (I have a not so nice temper) especially a Mama Bear temper!! When you talk to C ask for the address to CP and send them, I'm sure he will feel the love after the fact the same way as when he was suppose to receive it!! The "So MAD" part comes from a human being not paying attention to his/her job that day...karma Carol comes around...chin up Mama!!
Jacqueline, You have a young one too...Geezer!! My cub is an old man compared to you all. lol
BTW, T mentioned that the Corpsman in FMTB cannot travel more than 100 miles from Camp Pendleton. He has invited us down to CP for thanksgiving. Looks like he invited his gf and her family also. We will be staying a the "Cottages" in San Onofre, real close to CP.
Carol, I read your post and said Huh? But then I looked at the pic of the shape and saw the nipples in my minds eye...then laughed, Im a little slow on the up take. lol
my J turned 21 in July at A school...........we just kept saying "21 in Chicago-can't be good!" He behaved himself, atleast that's what he told us. I told my hubby not to worry, the Navy would be harder on him than we could ever be if he did something stupid. Hoping for a phone call tomorrow-haven't even had a text all week. Beautiful day in Illinois today! Happy Friday!!
I love the picture Carol!!! OMG - I laughed out loud here at work on that one!! J turns 21 in Nov - while he's at Camp P. Bummer! I'm sure they'll hook him up though. Lots of young ones there. I want to send some goodies too, especially Halloween treats, but wasn't sure how well that would go over.
I asked T on Monday of this week if he would like me to send some of his favorite homemade cookies. He said when he gets an address for me. Maybe he doesn't want to hurt my feelings?!
That's what I'm thinking Jacqueline!! Those goodies will not last long. They're probably ready right about now for a little love from home, so I'm going to send a small care package on Monday.
J said he's had to watch what he eats for so long that sweets don't set well with his stomach anymore............except for Oreos!! I am going to check with him about a package, too. He mentioned he is storing some stuff in a friend's car also.
I found a little cheaper flights going into Orange County. It's a possibility~
Carol, I too have heard from T...He was doing sweeps and is extremely tired but he has watch tonight. The weekend should be able to get caught up on sleep. I asked "are you still alive", he said barely!! lol
Ruth VH, I heard about your cub through the grapevine...I have to tell you...IS YOUR CUB SOME SO RT OF SUPERMAN?? What did you feed him growing up. LOL OMG!!! I was reading a random members blog and there you were talking about your cub, I said I know her, like you were royalty or something...your cub should be for All his medals he has earned. Way to go!!
Carol T is corpsman too! So did I call a duty by the wrong name?! I dunno
Carol - I slept in until 8:00 a.m! Yoohoo! J did JROTC his Freshman year in High School and I remember driving up to Greenville, NC for a competition. Well, we didn't realize it was a district one with over a thousand kids competiing. It was huge!! I think that's when J started feeling the pull towards the military, much to my worry! I talked him out of it until he was 19 and after finishing up classes at college the first year, he called me and said he was going in. I couldn't be more proud of him, but I worry because he doesn't seem to like FMTB at all. It could be because he knows he's suppose to be in Italy right now!! Oh well, maybe after the first couple of weeks, he'll start feeling it.
PBMom, I wonder if platoon # 1 has a lot of older corpsman...an 88 score is not bad for his 1st; my cub is 25 yrs. old and he scored a 90. Talk away about what they are experiencing, Lord knows my cub does not like to elaborate at all...lol
After the test on Wed, J said they are now in Phase III. He spent Saturday in San Diego doing some tourist things. He sent me a text with a picture of the Pacific. Wow!! And it sitll looked cloudy although he said that was just a valley they went through. That Georgia boy lives for the sun!!
I've never been there myself Chief88 - El Paso Texas is the furthest West I've been. I told Jamie he's going to have to get a Map either on Facebook or for his wall of all the places he's going to see.
Ruth - it must be in the air today. I have brownies made and am getting ready to start on chocolate chip cookies! I'm going to give it a try and see if they hold up going coast to coast. I know J will wonder how I got his address. Ha, Mother's have ways. Especially Navy Moms with a forum. LOL
P-Bear's Mom - I honestlly believe that keyboards, especially laptop ones, are getting smaller. Kids nowadays don't even learn how to type the old Corel way. I watch my younger son type and he flies on the keyboard with both index fingers! Oh - and we are HUGE Dawg fans! ha, ha, but Tech is o.k. I work right across the interstate from the Tech campus and can actually look down on Bobby Dodd stadium from our office window. J and his father went to his first Tech game while he was on leave at the beginning of the month. One of his high school friends plays football for them and his Dad gave them tickets. He's our Rudy.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday! It's been a great one weatherwise here in Georgia.
Well it's "heavy dewing" here on the coast of Cali. That's not a word Dewing but the heavy marine layer has all the streets wet like rain; I can barely see the ocean!! I'm home alone all weekend hubby is working overtime as well.
Pam you put a bug in my hat...think I will do the same and make T's favorite 7 layer cookies, the batch is ginormous so he can share.
Doesn't look like we are going to Camp Pendelton for Thanksgiving due to the fact that T has duty the weekend after.
Good afternoon everyone!! It was raining cats and dogs here in Atlanta, but we won't complain because we needed it. My commute into work was an hour and ten minutes and I often find myself wondering what J is doing and going through during those long trip times. He sent me a text last night and I can always tell when he's getting a little homesick. He had a great weekend though, so I think it helped him mentally to refocus on his training. I am sending off my brownies today and hope that they get there by Wed. If they do, I'm going to send another package on Wed. for Fri. delivery. Halloween Candy! Oh, and couldn't do the cookies since I didn't have enough brown sugar :( So brownies it will be.
Have a great day and Chief88 - I hope your not to stiff from gardening!! I'm sure the payoff is worth it! I wish we could do tulips here in Georgia, but it never gets cold enough. You literally have to dig them up and put them in the deep freeze every year.
Why, it sure does make you young Chieff88!! LOL!! Love it. But we have azaleas, gladiolas, knock-out roses, Magnolia trees and a whole bunch of pine trees!! Ha, ha - those Georgia Pines are everywhere. Actually they are quite nasty, dirty trees. My husband doesn't get it either. They'll never understand that motherly bond. I'll get so mad at my younger son (LAZY), and then text or talk to him an hour later like nothing happened! Sent my package today also. I hit the vending machine because I was afraid I didn't give him enough brownies since I didn't make the cookies. :) I told him I'm sure one of his shipmates would love a snack! SO SHARE!
As I was reading the posts about flowers and trees, I had to chuckle. I don't have many of either at my house--I bought my husband a chain saw for Christmas one year so he could cut wood for camping. Went shopping one spring day and all 3 of the trees in my front yard were GONE! Planting flowers doesn't work because he mows over them. So, I'm jealous of you ladies! Anyway, talked to J yesterday. I asked if he wanted a care package but he said "no, please". He says he is getting plenty to eat and doesn't need them. Said he doesn't have any place to keep food---I told him I doubted that he'd have to store any 'cause they'd eat it all, but he still said no. According to him, 2nd Platoon is the best! Guess everyone thinks their platoon is the best--not a bad thing!
Hi Ladies, just got home and everybody's here...Great!!
I talked to T yesterday, he to declined a box of baked goods. T reasoned that he is not to indulge in creature comforts at the moment..."Mom, please don't send anything"!!
OH Carol, My cub said he's been talking to you're cub, and my cub thinks your cub is "Cool"...just thought you would like to know. LOL
I've seen it both ways about sending packages! I've heard that they still like to get mail from a previous Camp P. Corpsman Mom. Oh well, if I get the nasty gram from Jamie, I'll know!! LOL.
Becky - soemtimes it's easeir upkeep with nothing!! We've planted so much in the past few years that we have to have someone come over while we're on vacation to take care of the dog and the plants.
