The troubles with living in the area ! (I will endure it gladly)

    Thanks much in advanve.
  • Debi

Ruth VH thanks for the info on the FMTB. My son is at CP waiting for the next FMTB to class up at the end of January. We're from Wisconsin so he's out there in shorts and tshirts too while everyone else is bundled up! He did that in San Antonio too..lol These warm weather people have no idea what cold is!

Can anyone tell me about the mail system at CP? I know that at FSH we had to send things UPS inorder for them to get the packages in a timely fashion. Is USPS better at Camp P? or should we stick with UPS?

  • ED32

Does anyone know on where to find the procedures for having a vehicle transported to CP?

  • NavyWifeMI

Hi all, I was wondering how liberty works in FMTB. My husband starts at the end of Jan. We have a brand new baby and I wanted to get a sense of what to expect. Thanks for any advice!
  • louielou

Hi NavyWifeMI, Usually they will get weekend liberty, but when they have a big test on Monday's they have to be back early Sunday for mandatory study. Also, I think I remember one of the longer hikes going until Saturday afternoon. When they are out in the field as it is called, they are not aloud to have their phones with them, so plan on days with no contact. Oh ya, they will also have a liberty buddy, and so they have to leave and arrive with that person. My son had someone who was semi local as he was and he would take him to the train station and have to pick him up also.

  • louielou

racing girl, What kind of A School did he go to in Mississippi? Corpsman only go to A School in San Antonio. You will have to get an address from him as he will have a mail box or something. He will need a car if he is going to be there for 2 years unfortunately, my son said they have a used lot on base from Marines that have to sell because they get shipped out or deployed. If he has Navy Federal he could maybe apply for a loan, that is what my son did.

Does anyone have a corpsman in LAR at Camp Pendleton?    LAR= Light Armored Reconnaissance.

  • Navymomx2

Hi gang.  I am new to the page and trying to navigate my way around.  My son is at FMTB west and will graduate 3/28.  I don't know the area at all.  Any advice about best places to stay in proximity to graduation appreciated.  The Inn of the Corps on base is full.  Also, what time does graduation start typically?  We may decide to stay near the airport and go up in the morning, depending on time and typical traffic.  Getting into San Diego 10:30 p.m. (1:30 a.m. on our body's time).  To sleep and then drive to CP or drive to CP and then sleep after landing is the decision we need to make.  Thanks for your imput!!!

  • Navymomx2

Hi Ruth.  Thanks for the info.  My husband booked a hotel just outside the base for the night before.  He will stay until Tuesday, but my son does have to report to 29 Palms right away.  He will drive him there after the weekend in L.A.  Thanks again!

  • DramaSoul

My son graduated FMTB at CP on a Friday. He had to report to 29 by midnight on Sunday. We had the weekend at Ward Lodging and I drove him and his buddy to 29 on Sunday afternoon. It was about a 3.5 hour drive.
  • DramaSoul

Everyone told him and his 2 buddies who were also stationed there that it was a terrible place. It's been great for my son. He has learned A LOT and has even become an ACLS instructor. Now he and his 2 buddies (these guys have been together since RTC when they were in the same division) will be heading out to Okinawa with a Marine unit in the fall.
  • Michelle

I was hoping somebody could tell me my son will be going to FMTB and I have read that they get Marine cloths when they get there for FMTB . Does anyone know if they take money out of there paycheck again for the stuff they give them for there training ?

  • angelalovesD(Ship 14 Div 274)

Mom4, I am about 2 1/2 hours north of CP, in Ventura area.  Where are you located?

  • IDCmom#1

Michelle, I sent you a private message about the uniforms a while back but wonder if you ever saw it since I went months before I even knew I received private messages.

No, your son does not pay for the uniforms issued to him while at FMTB.  But, I think if he loses something, he would be charged for it.

  • Michelle

IDCmon#1 I hope you got my private message . Thank you for all the great info on the uniforms !

  • Pjpckmcov

Hi , my son arrived last pm for San Antonio. I have not spoken to him yet. He will be working in the hospital/ clinic. Until fmbt starts the end of April. Any infor from experiences would be great
  • carfruit

Hi Pjpckmcov, my son arrived at CP a couple weeks ago. He is also working in the clinic giving shots, drawing blood and the sort. LOTS of PT! He will also be doing fmtb at the end of April. He seems to be adjusting well there.
  • Pjpckmcov

Thanks Kathyproudcorpmansmom and carfruit, do you recommend a special type of socks?
  • DramaSoul

Kathy is right. Go to Fox Sox and get the Strykers. That's what I got me son. The moleskin is a must and tell him to run! On their first "shake out" run the day before they moved into Devil Doc Hall, 3 guys lagged behind and they ALL had to do flutter kicks and push-ups. Side note...these same 3 guys got rolled back to the next FMTB class because they couldn't keep up with the physical stuff. My son had workout buddies and they worked put every day before FMTB started.

Happy Easter to all of you!  I hope everyone is well!

Good day all, I haven't been on here in a while just wanted to let everyone no what is going on with my Corpsman. Him and I will be driving cross country from MD (he bought a car while stationed there), taking approximately 5-6 days back to OR before he has to report to CP in July. Looking forward to having my Sailor back on the West Coast.

  • Celina

Happy Mothers day, to all you awesome Navy mom's.
  • Earp13

Hello, my son will be arriving to CP on Tues, his orders are for Edson Range, he just finished Corpschool two weeks ago.  He does not have orders for FMTB though.  Does anyone know how that all works.  I just figured if he is going to be working with MC recruits then he would probably have to do FMBT, but who knows. Any insight would be great.

  • IDCmom#1

Earp13, my son was assigned to Area 31 Edson Range clinic and I have been there.  Nice clinic.  Corpsman get a lot of hands on experience there and if they let their IDCs (Independent Duty Corpsmen) know they really want to learn, they will get even more experience.  Just asked my son about the IDCs there and he says they are good.

It is possible that if your son does not have orders for FMTB, he might be transferred to another clinic because the corpsmen at Edson Range need to be 8404 to do medical coverage on hikes with the Marine recruits.

Just thinking back to some of the sick call patients I saw in the waiting room.  Bleeding fingers from not being careful while changing targets at the range, lots of pink eye, and eyes that are horribly red and painful because the old wife's tale that hand sanitizer in your eye will cure pink eye.  The Marine recruits are really young, impressionable kids.

My son is due to graduate from A school in San Antonio on July 31,2014.... Orders are FMTB in Camp Pendleton and then on to Naval Hospital in San Diego. I am in the right place?
  • IDCmom#1

Lita, you are in the right place.

  • IDCmom#1

Somewhere (someone must know where), there is a great video of a past class going through FMTB West.  You might even be able to just Google it.

  • tiffytbe

@Lita... Make sure to "like" the official FMTB West Facebook page. Lots of info and pictures posted quite frequently. My son graduates next Friday and by following the facebook page I've been able to see all that is going on. https://www.facebook.com/FieldMedWest

    Hello:

My son gratuated a week ago, after a 2 day visit  he is now at his new post on Kaneohe Bay. It was great reading all your post.  Good luck to the next graduationg class.

Now I will try to find a group from that base, anyone one familiar with it?

  • jennsbox

Hi!  My daughter just graduated from San Antonio's "A" school corpsman training and is on liberty for 2 weeks.  She will be stationed at Camp Pendleton.  We were so fortunate, as we only live a couple hours away!  Any information on this next step would be greatly appreciated.  She will be getting married next week and is looking into housing on the base.
