hi everyone!! So its official we are not only the best group on n4moms we have the most kids to advance this time mine did too to E4. I think we need to go out and celebrate for them!! Anyone game?? Sorry about the boys acting crazy and not calling on Thanksgiving. Julie clue me in what is ESWS?? Paula S. glad tht your holiday went well, was thinking about you!! :)
  • Coco

Julie - you get the props this week for the cliff notes...ditto what she said to everyone! And congrats Becky too! So...I think my son may be navyformoms stalking me because hours after I posted he sent me a profusely apologetic text and on Sunday he finally called. I have been having trouble posting since Sunday not sure why the add comment button wasn't working.

He is pretty stressed...graduation is on Dec16 and he keeps telling me not to come. :( He is grad n go and would rather spend time with me once he settles in at post in Washington. I am really struggling with missing a graduation...guess I got spoiled with bootcamp and A school grad in Chicago.

Oh did I mention...yes another one of our kids was advanced(is that the right term) not sure what his grade is now but he moved up! Yeah!

Sally - hang it there - it will happen eventually
  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Why does she rock, I guess I did not read far enought back?????
  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Julie, I am sorry, but hang in there, yes we are always looking for a reason to drink. LOL We are here for you. Well it is good that Jess knows, and she will miss the dog but she will be ok! It is hard for her also being so far from home. Julie I did tell you that I mailed the card to the ship before I left for Florida on the 19th, so they will have them by Christmas.
  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Barb, how are you? They may be putting a special mission together in Italy and Stephen wants to be on it so that would be another 6 months in Italy. He will find out in the beginning of the year.

Ok about airfare I bet all of you for Stephen to fly home it will cost him $1,400.00, so I do not want to hear anyone complain about airfare. LOLOLOL
  • Pat L. in IL

Julie, Yes, you do have family in the area. We are right here!
  • ChitownPat

Debbie-Congrats to your son and his proud mom!
  • MissMySailor

    Hi all,
Julie I am so sorry for what you are going through. I know this has to be the worst time of year too. Your such a sweetie I wish you the best and feel free to contact me if you need to vent! Hugs Paula
  • carols_kitchen

Getting colder in Southern Illinois by the minute. But, we do NOT have any snow! This gal does not want any snow days from the school calendar--then I get out too late in May. lol
  • DeniseR

Oh, we have the snow in Chicago today. We are just getting started on the wintery stuff.
  • ChitownPat

Was out in yesterday's Chicago snow at 6AM and it was beautiful...now all gray and yucky! Did take in the Chriskindlemart downtown along with the tree at Fields (I refuse to call it Macy's) and had lunch will old college friends...finally a call from my sailor last night. It was a wonderful day!
  • Coco

Pat - Fields is the only way to go! We are doing Fields, Walnut Room and windows on the 15th. My family and I have done it every year since I was born...lol you can guess. Last year the boys gave the best xmas ever because they knew at least Lewis might not be back for awhile...I got them to sit with Santa in the Cozy Cottage at Fields and have their picture taken...just like they did when they were young...memories...

Julie - I am sorry to hear about the split. It's been years but I still remember how hard my divorce was. I am here if you ever want to vent or talk.

Question for the Group - my son is about to purchase a vehicle from a sailor at Camp Pendleton who is headed to Japan...where does he register the vehicle...and transfer the title...pay sales tax...San Diego before the 16th, Washington after he arrives or Illinois??? Has anyone dealt with this before or know another group that might know?
  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Stephen bought a car from another sailor on base, you do it right on base. Well in Stephen case he also had to go for a driving test. Tell your sailor to ask the sailor where the sailor who he is buying his car from where he went. So that is what I have to say on the subject. LOL

I love downtown, the windows the lights, the shopping it is just so pretty and I love taking the train downtown.

Had my Bunco Christmas party on Sat., had a wonderful time, good food, good gifts and great friends. How is everyone doing on this cold Monday???
  • carols_kitchen

Debbie-- I miss my old bunco group. Guess if it's to be it's up to me to start a group again.
  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Bunco is fun, you play with dice and we have 8 players, it is a lot of fun. Well if we get together one time we could play, I will teach you and Carol can help me. LOL Yes Carol it is up to you to get another one going. We do it once a month and everyone takes a turn at their house, we have a lot of fun.

Hi Michelle, how are you and your sons doing?

Mary that darn work gets in the way all the time doesn't it!!!

    Hi Coco!

Did I see somewhere we are getting together in January and where????

I need cliff notes also, who is keeping those! LOL
  • Coco

Hi ladies, so I have been all over talking to some great people at Camp Pendleton this week and I think I have this car thing figured out...thanks for the input Debbie. My sailor is off on his final camping trip in the mountains before graduation.

Never heard of Bunco but...sounds like fun. I don't think we have a date yet but if all of you are free Saturday Feb 5 or Saturday Feb 12 and willing to drive downtown I would be happy to host an evening at (yes don't laugh) my parents...lol okay you can laugh but they live downtown in high rise with a beautiful view of the lake and city and (yes don't laugh) when they go out of town I still have parties at their place...just like when I was teen...lol They will be out town those to weekends so if anyone is interested let me know.
  • carols_kitchen

Oh Coco---but that this southern Illinois gal were closer! Sigh....
  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Had a great time in Florida, the weather was 80 everyday it was wonderful.

How is everyone? Annie the flu, sorry, glad you are feeling better.

Michelle, glad the kids are good, I hope your son can find a flight.
  • Pat L. in IL

Cathy, YIPPEEEE! Have a great time!

  • carols_kitchen

Cathy--those are the sounds I miss the most.  Hug her for us.

  • ChitownPat

Cathy-So happy for you.  Enjoy your time together!

  • MissMySailor

Julie I an so happy you and your husband are trying to talk things out and I wish you the best, I know how hard this is for you and yes we are here for you all of us!

Cathy how cool that your daughter is here I am so happy for you!!! It is funny the things we miss like their laughter and such. I miss when my son lay on the couch face down with his leg and arm hanging off and the remote for the TV changing at full speed. It used to irritate me and now I miss it. He is coming home this Friday YAHOOOOO for 10 days!!!!! It almost got cancelled last week because he was going to be sent on another ship for deployment but thank GOD that changed.

I was all set  tled with the fact that his ship would not be ready for deployment for another year since it is new. Now he says he will  be going on depolyment in January with another ship because they are short sailors. Ladies what is it that makes this hard? Time long away? Not hearing from them? Not knowing where he is? I know with his position he will be on ship at all times so I have some feeling of safety, (a mothers hope) but I cried when I got off the phone with him and he is not even leaving until January. He also said he can not tell me where they are going which is expected, maybe that is what bothers me not knowing.

Hugs to all and Happy Holidays!!!

  • Pat L. in IL

Mary, You can count on me for help if you need it!! Just LMK!!

  • Coco

Michelle - you did great and while at work??? LOL.

I warmed for a moment as I read one Debbie's last texts about her Florida trip

Mary - I feel you pain but you will be glad once its done - I had reconstructive knee surgery years ago.

Cathy...such fun!  And Paula only four days to go...I think deployment will be hardest because there is a feeling a helplessness since they are so far away and you have no idea what's going on.

I had a great xmas surprise from my son...right as we(the whole family) were eating our holiday lunch at Long Grove on Saturday my sailor called and got to say hi to every single family member...it was totally unplanned...he just happened to decide to pick up the phone and call me.

Also I got the dates wrong for it would be the weekend of 1/29 or 2/5 - NOT 2/12.

  • Coco

Julie...I am with Paula...well only once for me...but it is better to end the relationship and move on...next year at this time I am sure you will be in a very different position. I closed the door on a 2 year relationship right around the time my son left for bootcamp and its amazing how many very fun doors have opened up since.  I think we may all need to take Julie out for a drink some time soon.

So I want to let you all know of a group/phone number that has been a great resource to me in figuring out my son's car situation the group is called Military One Source and their # is 1(800) 342-9647 and web is www.militaryonesource.com.  They will help you find out any contact info or general info you need about the military and they are very friendly.

  • becky m

sheesh lots going on...I vote Michelle as cliff note mom!!  :) I have started the countdown for jason to be home its 10 days now. he asked yesterday if i could bring his winter coat to the airport. This is the first time in 2 years he will be home in the winter. Cathy good luck on your interview. Julie your in my thoughts. Paula its ok to cry...it will make you pee less!! :) Mary you have my number if you need anything. Michelle I have hooked up with a couple washington moms just by accident, let me know if you want me to give you their info. Everyon else I think of you often.

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Julie, sorry you are going though such a rough time.  Keep your chin up, ok!  You have a wonderful daughter and lots of good friends, we are here for you.

Michelle, the stones have passed and he is feeling better. You know his leave has been cancelled, not happy about that, he has not been home in two years, I still have his Christmas gifts here thought he was coming home.  I feel bad for him he really wanted to come home.

Hi Paula, how is your daughter doing?  How are you?  Holidays are not always ez are they.  My daughter will be home this weekend so that is nice to have one kid home, she is a senior this year and will be graduating I am very proud of her.

    Hi Coco, Becky, Diane!

Cathy, Sally, Mary.....the same VFW we went to for Thanksgiving!!

  • Pat L. in IL

Cathy, Last night the Commander told me that all the Villa Park restaurants that provided food for Thanksgiving have already committed to doing the same next year!

  • becky m

We are so lucky to have such a great group of moms....we all care so much about each other. Sunday at roundheads works for me.

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Becky, I am so excited that your son is coming home, where is he coming from?  Yes he will need a winter coat.  It does not get that cold in Italy so whenever Stephen comes home and it is winter he is in for a big surprise.

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Sally I am so sorry you are hurting, you ladies are breaking my heart.  If we can get together during the holidays just let me know.

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Ladies, I would love to get together, I am missing everyone?

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Anne, where have you been, too cold to be riding your bike!

Diane, I miss talking to you, how are your kids?

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Hi Michelle, what's new?  Your son still coming home?  How is the boy toy???

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Good to hear from you Annie, I am glad you son is coming home also.  Well lets make plans, have dinner and a few drinks and lets catch up.  Maybe after Christmas!

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Sorry Michelle, I thought maybe I have missed something, I just cannot keep up anymore!!!  Cannot do this weekend, I have parties this weekend and next weekend is Christmas so I can so after Christmas.  Michelle I am glad you get to see your son!

  • Coco

Note to group...if you know its going to be a teary eyed day (my son graduates today and I am here in Chicago :)) don't put your make up on and THEN decide to text your kid...get the tears out the way first.  LOL yep I put my make up on twice.

    Annie - plans already...sorry

    Sally - hang in there

Diane - that sucks!  But I know your daughter will cheer you up!

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Annie, I would love to come, I am baking Friday night I have a party on Sat., to go too, have one for me ok!

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Ladies I am so sad that many of you are sad, the hell with the ones making you sad.  Do something for yourself.  Kids I could just punch them.  You ladies are so kind and sweet, what is wrong with those kids not talking to their mother.  I feel bad.  I am lucky I have kids that even tell me too much, LOL and I am grateful for that, I just wish I could say something to make you feel better.  SORRY!

  • MissMySailor

    Ditto on that Debbie!!!

Those who are sad today close your eyes and picture me giving you a great big bear hug!!!!! This year has been a tough one for many of us and I tell you I could not have made it without all the support of the ladies in this group!

Sally I wish I could say some thing to help you feel better but your childrens behavior has me speechless, you are so sweet, and kind shame on them!

Coco BIG CONGRATS for your son! I know you are proud and scared at the same time... Heck lately I do not even wear make up but then again I stay home...On that note had another surgery yesterday and last wen on my neck in a heck of allot of pain but will know in about a month if it worked so cross your fingers for me.

Julie, Sally and Diane if you don't have family be with friends it makes the holidays so much easier. Oh and focus on New Years Eve!!!

    Hugs Paula2

I HAVE GOOD NEWS!!! My son called and as we knew he is coming home today but the good news is his deployment was canceled!!!!! He is so mad he volunteered to go with another ship and it looks like his ship said NO they want him to stay where he is. Yeh!!! I was laughing which made him even more mad LOL he said he really wants to go and this is the 2nd ship he was suppose to go out with and at the last minute his ship said no we need him here. I am so happy!!!

  • Coco

Happy Friday!  OMG That is soooo cool Paula!  Congrats even though your son is bummed.  LOL. I would have made my son upset to with my excitement. I am keeping you in my prayers that your surgery is huge success!

My son made it safe to WA and I learned that my cousin and her family love visiting Whidbey Island so he will get to see some family this holiday season even if it itsn't me.

  • MissMySailor

Cathy my son is in Norfolk Va on the USS Jason Dunham. If she wants someone to meet her when she arrives and show her around let me know and I will give you my sons number and facebook info if she is on there. He is home for X-Mass just got in and I am so happy, he looks so good! He really likes Norfolk by the way!

  • MissMySailor

Hi friends, I know you mentioned Jan 22 for the packing party at the VFW but do you know who our adoptees are and do we have a list yet?

  • Pat L. in IL

Hi Paula, Yes, they are the SaberHawks. Posted on "Molly's Adopt A Sailor" along with a list of requests!

  • Pat L. in IL

Cathy, I'll get on it! Been busy trying to finish up Christmas shopping, wrapping, etc. Being a "last minute Lucy" this year. With my sailor leaving for deployment, kind of took the wind out of my sails.

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Sally it just breaks my heart, maybe I should not say this but he needs a good kick in the ass, sorry just had to say it.  We carry them for nine month, give up everything for them and then they act like that no way.  Ok, I am done. LOL

    Cathy, I am hoping my son is home for his sister's graduation from College but he depends on his next base when he is going.;

    Hi everyone!

  • Coco

Hi everybody! Here comes some snow!

Julie - my fingers and toes are crossed.

Sally - six tickets??? That's crazy and so is not at least saying hi to his mom!

  • Debbie (Stephen's mom)

Michelle, I don't want to hear you are down your son is coming home, I would give anything to see Stephen so buck up and smile and enjoy the holidays!!!
