For parents and loved ones of deployed and deploying military personnel...Aghanistan/Iraq and any and all war zones. Please introduce yourself on the main comment page.
Docs Proud Mom - Welcome to the group... I sure know what you mean about watch the news don't watch the news... Its not easy is it : ) And those songs!!! Yikes... I feel the past two years I can cry on a dime ... We all know what your feeling..
TDM my son is on the USS Mesa Verde there are a few of us that have been on N$Ms for some time and know what to say and what not to say... We have been having this discussion in my USS Mesa Verde group ... They loss there FB page...So a parent in my other group posted OPSEC rules... Lets keep our kids safe...
It's nice the Navy acknowledges that it's the family that loses out when they have to shut down a facebook page. But whatever keeps all of our military safe!!
Baby Joseph is having a rough time, respiratory infection, going back and forth on the oscillator to the respirator, he's up to 1lb 10 ozs, but no feeding at the moment. He's so feisty, they had to sedate him somewhat to keep him calm! he doesn't like the noisy oscillator. Thank you all for your continuing prayers and good thoughts for this tiny guy.
Maybe I should put up in the "permanent" area above with the links....sometimes around here we need a pep talk "you can do it!"....I think this is what my son's 4th grade teacher called "auditory"...she told me my son would be on TV as a motivational speaker by the time he was 30. So now he's an instructor for the Navy...hmmm?
TexasDoc....That's cute, ours was his doctor. Doctor told him with his name he was going to be someone in charge with power. Gradutated USNA and will be LT CMR in a couple of months.
I haven't posted this yet, but guess this is as good as time as any, the Navy is sending him for his Master's starting this school year! He has always want to get his Master's! He is very excited.
After Deployment. org Just posted this web site link above, seems like a good one for service members, family, loved ones of those folks coming home...check it out!
well, after it was posted, one mom came in to say it needed to be about basic training. I was good. So good. Really. Didn't say anything! I'm not unsympathetic but geez, let the folks with deployed kids have their space, and get some remarks in....
well ladies, I didn't get an early morning phone call, but I did get an early morning E mail!!! Almost as good as talking to him! I am so glad for everyone who got a call! Its 4am here and I couldn't sleep and there it was, those familiar words," Hey mom!! " Now I will not get back to sleep at all!!!!! Hope those who haven't heard will hear soon!
Good for you all!! seems to me that there might be some commanders over there saying "have you talked/emailed to your family lately? DO IT!!"......it is important to the family readiness people that those in command make sure each one has an opportunity at a computer or phone....they want your sailors and marines to stay in touch, they are on our side!! so good to hear you're hearing from your kids!
Absolutely, PBear. A surge in phone calls and communication from that area always makes me wonder if there are things going on we are not aware of (well, probably!!). Would you PM me your son's unit? I have to say this, this is one of those times that no news is good news when the communication is tight. If any of your sons/daughters were injured, you will know right away. YOU will know right away...remember that. They are buckling down, staying focused, doing the job and coming home. That's the plan and they're sticking to it.
TDM...When my son was over there I noticed that every time the news was reporting heavy action in his area, my son would call his wife. He would just chat...ask about the kids and stuff, but I'm sure it was his way of saying he was okay, without saying what was happening.
Lol ty Pbear for explaining, for a minute I thought I fell into the "twilight zone" and little men in green suits were coming for me.. Boy, do I have a lot to learn about the lingo
MT...that's what I noticed as well....so I'm always happy when calls come, because then I watch the news, I know you moms are watching with a little more confidence than if those young warriors had not called!
My son was transferred from Weapons to H&S right at deployment, he was not happy. Evidently he got his time out of the wire as well. The area he was in was the "poster" child for how they wanted all of the small towns in Iraq to be... many tours by VIPs and the H&S corpsmen were cleared to do that type of thing. They didn't seem to spend that much time just in the "office" altho the only photo I have of him there is from that "office" looking place....
so sorry pbear, every moms worst nightmare.I cant even imagine the pain for the marines family. Do you know what happened? I think all our hearts break every time , they are all of our children in a way. So sorry p-bear.
Oh P-Bear's Mom...I'm so sorry! That brings all the horror too close to home! I agree, that when anyone is lost, it is horrible. But to think this person was walking around, maybe talking to your son a short time ago, it is almost unbearable! Have you talked to your son since it happened? If he was close to the Marine, he is going to need your strength even more. Keep us posted, Hon....
PBear, every single young life lost in war is heartbreaking, for the families and loved ones, and for those with whom these quiet heroes serve. I'm so sorry, for all involved. My prayers for the family, and for those young warriors still serving and needing to keep their focus and their thoughts in check until they can come home to grieve. Be safe, young America, as you fight this war of your life time. Truly, I believe my father and his generation would label THIS generation the "Greatest Generation". Blessings.
Chief...you're doing great! that reality slap is a good thing...and keeps you on the upper plane of this up/down world of deployment...you'll slide back down sometimes but now you know what to do....what did he request?
Chief, send lots of zip lock baggies, big ones and little ones. Big enough for laptop computers and IPODs, etc. Tell them to double bag them. Send a soft old pillow case for his head and send photos of you, the dogs, the back yard. My son used to check myspace for photos of the backyard and the flowers blooming and the DOGS! Make that list and keep it by the phone....is school out in your area? have any of his friends come home from school? did the neighbors paint their house? anything about home...put it on the list and tell him about it. (my son loved the soft old pillowcases, that sand burns!!)
Chief, can you personal message me his unit, with a generic address to either your corpsman or to a chaplain? I have something in mind...I have a friend whose son is a Bee, he's working in the heat in two metal shipping giant crates, welded together, and the AC went down...I suggested we send fans...and she said "gee, then it's a convection oven!" (they have fans already, by the way)
http://youtu.be/_borufk9RTc Link to youtube that will get your blood going this morning....soldiers returning from A are charged for their weapons bag by Delta Airlines.
Delta's response we'll see what happens. The least that should have happened is that those folks flew without any money coming out of their personal funds, and the federal govt' was billed for any charges.
I posted it on my FB page and I can't believe the response I have received .. One of my Blue Star Moms posted it and I re posted... Shame on you Delta !!!!
Baby Joseph, still fightin! and managing to keep an eye on the situation, no matter what! up to 1lb 10 oz, still some issues, but hanging in there!! Just like a military mom! His Navy grgrandma (aka my mom) would sure be proud of him and of his mother for being the woman she is and the mom she's turned out to be! Her auntK is sure proud!! (that's me!)
My niece called with new update, Baby Joseph has broken the 2lb mark! At first they thought it was edema, but the fluid is down and his weight is still "up"!
Hi, Karen....the words that keep moms sane ..."you're not crazy to be scared, your kid is in a war zone..." and "no news is good news"...but here on this board, the one thing you will know is "you are not alone". No one wants to be in this group but we say "welcome" anyway! Please take a look at the discussion areas above, read back over the thousands of posts at your leisure, and check out the links above as well...and we will always be around to listen, help you cry, scream and laugh....and one thing I've learned with these women, it doesn't matter if it's the first deployment or the 5th...scared is scared.
Yeah, those boys get excited over the weirdest stuff...but they are well trained, and focused, ready to do their jobs....and watch each other's backs. We'll try to keep you on an even keel so he doesn't have to worry....cuz they do!
Truly, Karen, you are not alone...you'll see and hear from a lot of moms in the next few days. Be sure you have your notification set to 'follow"...
good morning Navy08mom. I too am an early riser and lately its been 3am when I wake up! Ugh! I wonder if your son and mine are in the same place, he left about 2 weeks ago also. I talked to him on skype yesterday and he too has not received his box at his FPO address. He did tell me that he was told it is taking 10 days to 2 weeks for packages . So maybe anytime soon. I too hope the time passes quickly, this is his 1st deployment .
karenM(seabee mom) Welcome, We all know exactly how you feel.I too am scared a lot of the time and I am always checking on line for him. Yesterday I had just gotten off line when I got a phone call from his buddys wife who told me to get on skype so he could talk to me. he had asked her to call me. It was such a nice thing to do!There are friends here who will listen anytime.
Susan, good on facebook for keeping us informed, hope you're having a peaceful day with a little of the worry gone for today.
Karen! I went to your page, I'm sorry I didn't recognize you at first...I was on my way to bed when I read your post and just wanted to make sure to welcome you to this group so I responded. Want to make sure every mom gets a response asap, and certainly you that are new to deployment need to know quickly that you are not alone...again, welcome!
Hi Navy08Mom, I've sent my son a package every couple weeks or so for the past 3 months and each has arrived in about eight days from AL to a FOB/OP in Helmand Province. Hopefully, that continues. Friends in other parts of the country have been sending him boxes as well and they've been arriving in just over a week as well.
Hi Karen, load up a box with ramen noodles (different flavors) and some large cans of PikNik Shoestring Potatoes and a few pr. of dark tube socks for a total of $10-$15 then add shipping costs. They'll love 'em...:-)
