my2boyz, I was there in April two years ago. It didn't snow while we were there but it was chilly, or maybe cold and windy for most. On the Sat after PIR we had to scrape the windshield because of the frost, but when we left CO it was getting ready to snow so for us it was "mild".

Just remember to pack for wearing layers of clothing, you can always put more on, but you can only take so many off. :)

  • diannep

    De nada, Diana!

    Good Morning, Everyone!

  • aznavymom44

I am so sorry to hear that. I know how you must feel, that words can't explain you wondering WHY? I pray for all of you, for peace and reassurance during this time. Thank your son for his will to serve, and know there is another door opening for him!
  • MomTut

missingaaron- my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.  You are right in knowing there is a plan B and he will find it.  Its better to find this now than to have something worse happen with pain and health injuries.  Will continue to send good thoughts your way.  Something GREAT is in the works..... :)  Take care of yourself too!

missingaaron - holding you and your family close in my prayers.  When you do see your son, please thank him for his willingness to serve.  This shows both his head and his heart are in the right place and the next door in the chapters of his life will open soon.  I can understand and appreciate his disappointment.  Remember, we Moms are here if you need us!

  • ellen0502

The RTC has posted the divisions for this TG, and as we surmised there will be four guests allowed at PIR.

Mail call!  SR had wisdom teeth removed, has completed SIQ & light duty, Judging from questionnaire which was completed last week, they are midway through week 2 this week.  Gave initial PRT results did 48 of 50 req. sit ups, 39 of 42 pushups and has to take 30 seconds off his run time to pass.  All in all, very positive and very up beat!

  • diannep

Congrats on an "uplifting" letter, hoosiermamma!

  • GreenFish

Hoosiermama, that does sound like a good start to things and gives me hope its like that for my SR too.  Thanks for sharing it with us.

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

yay hoosiermamma!!!! looks like you're the only one here that got a letter. Hopefully more of us will get one tomorrow. Sounds like your SR is doing well. Very happy for you!!

  • MomTut

Got a letter last night as well!  I sent him one of the "survey" letters that I found here and he returned it.  It looks like he had fun filling it out and answered some questions he probably would not have thought of on his own.  I sent another one earlier this week.  His "personality" still came through since he added comments.  Didn't pass PRT first time around but doesn't seem overly concerned in passing because they are having LOTS of opportunity to PT and IT to get into shape.  Lucky kids!

  • diannep

MomTut:  There are actually 3 PFAs....the first 2 are actually for practice and to see where they need to work out the kinks....the 3rd and final one, given right before BattleStations, their final test before they are sailors, is the very important one that they must pass in order to do BattleStations.  If is amazing what great shape they are in after Bootcamp....even if they arrived in great shape!  The IT probably really gets them in shape!  For those who don't know, IT is Intensive Training, which is used for punishment and involves long periods of intense exercises!  So, I guess maybe....the more they misbehave, the better shape they will be in????  HA!

    Good Morning!

  • tammyl

Good morniing everyone. Hopefully it will be letter day fôr those of us who haven't gotten a regular one yet. My daughter is going to Meridian, MS for A school. Is there things I can give her at the airport, cell phone, laptop, others so I don't have to mail them?

  • tammyl

Glorious Thursday. Yippee got a letter today. She is doing well but has blisters on her feet and is not as cold as she thought would be. She said she was well prepared for BC and learned all and more before she left. This is a good thing.

My2boyz....is your oldest stationed in CA. she asked because she became friends with someone who's older brother is in CA.

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

Good morningThursday!!! We should get hit with letters today. Wow tammy. What time do you get mail? Lucky.I'm happy she is adjusting well.

We are from CA but my oldest is stationed in WA state. He is a submarine sonar technician.:)

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

You can give them what they want at the airport. Keep in mind they will be carrying a huge full green duffle bag, a heavy garment bag with all their uniforms and a black backpack that will be full. I felt sorry watching all the little girls carrying those things. And your not suppossed to help them. I remember offering to help my son and he told me I couldn't. He only wanted his phone and he bought earplugs at the airport. I sent his laptop, alarm clock, video games, and civilian clothes once he got situated in his new barracks.

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

Hi ctz3~ I am from San Jose but moved to Los Banos 20 years ago. More central. It's a small town. It was great raising my boys here. I am going again to PIR. I would not miss it. It is awesome. I hope you're going.

  • tammyl

my2boyz...mail comes about 930 eastern time, so I wasn't sure if I would get one today or tomorrow. I was in the Air Force so I know about carrying all that stuff. Thanks for the advice. But I don't remember having but my duffle bag and a backpack maybe, no garment bag. I remember having alot of ironing to do when got to next station, even though things were rolled. Wow, have things changed. lol

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

ctz3- Cool! So you have two in also? Congrats. Too bad they didn't go together. So where are you in CA? If nearby, I can hand off the box to your SR. Where is his A School? Mine is going to TX. (HM)

Thank you for serving tammyl!! So awesome. :) :)

  • GreenFish

I've decided to leave the FB groups.  I've not heard anything from my SR and its me, not you.  I'm really happy to hear ya'lls news but it just makes me more painfully aware my SR is not staying in touch for some unknown reason.  Ya'll take care.  Still planning to go to PIR & oh he is gonna get an earful when I can get him to myself...after I give him a great big hug.

  • ellen0502

KYMom9, Not hearing from your SR at this point is not uncommon. There is very little time to write at the beginning, usually Sunday evening for just a few minutes, and if your SR had watch maybe no time at all. Your SR does not really have a choice when making phone calls, it is up to the RDC who, when and how long phone calls will be, and again watch can interfere with those too.

    Hang in there!

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

KYMom9- ellen502 is right. I was shocked to get a call on Saturday. I didn't get a call from my oldest til week 4-5. They have so much going on in there and I'm sure he is dealing with his own pain just like you. Hang on. Those letters will start coming and continue to send yours. This site also helped me last time because the female SR's seemed to write more details as to what was going on in there compared to those of us who had son's. LOL!! The moms shared their letters and it was great.

  • MomTut

There are some great surveys already out there on this site:

    http://navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms/page/letter-writing-fun-s...

Go all the way to the bottom of the page and start looking through them. I changed some of the questions to be more personal to my son.  I'm sure he had fun with them and I loved getting the response!  I printed up a couple more this week to send out over the next couple of weeks.  :)

SorinMom, The link to the questionnaires is in the pages. The "Pages" are located in the column just under the member photos.

  • ellen0502

NavyMomX2, I think I have asked you before, but where in Japan is your sailor?

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

WOW!! There are a lot of us with more than one child serving. That's awesome! I guess our oldest were great role models. LOL!! Good job moms!!

Hmmm...Well no letter for me today. A little shocked and bummed. I remember that they started coming every Thursday week 3. Maybe tomorrow. :)
