This group is for those who have loved ones that graduated from boot camp on April 4. 2014. A place to keep in touch with each other as the sailors continue their Navy journey.

Got a call from my SR about an hour ago. Ship 09 Div 129 - she said this would be her last phone call for a while. This is a little sooner than I expected but I'm glad I had my cell phone on me and my husband was there to listen in. Keep your phones handy Moms. {--|o
thanks girl chief. I haven't heard from mine yet but will keep the phone close by! She is going to be very upset they missed the academic flag by 0.02 pts.
My prayers were answered when I got a call from my SR a few minutes ago. First time we've talked all month. He sounded very tired and mostly grumbled. Got a little info out of him. I asked what position he does in 921 and he said whatever they tell him to do. His skin is getting dry from all the cold exposure, but no blisters (he is used to wearing boots). Asked that I not send so much mail because lack of storage space so I offered to send a prepaid envelope to send it back to home & he accepted that. Also said there is huge backlog of mail where it comes in at RTC and that is why it sometimes takes so long to reach them. Told him I loved him & missed him, then he chatted with his big brother a minute before he hung up. I'll take it.
Many don't know that RTC has its own post office. So when anyone sends something "overnight, FedEx, etc", the guarantee time delivery is only to RTC, not to your SR. So that is why even sent those ways, the mail takes a while to get there.
KYMom59 - so happy for you! That is great news. I'm still waiting for a third and final call.....hoping she isn't on watch right now. Since calls started over 2 hours ago I am starting to feel that this last one may not happen.
caolila - Not all of Div 921 were able to make calls last Sunday. This was only my second call. The first longer than 10 min call though! That was the best part.
SR did say Div 921 did win Academic Flag! Job well done!
Good evening all! Long work day but very excited to get a 4 page letter from my SR today!! He's doing well. He said he has watch duty and can not write all the time. So for those that didn't get a letter yet maybe they are in the same situation. Mentioned that the BCG's are not as bad as he thought they would be. Said his Div has 2 female and 1 male RDC which are pretty cool. Likes their parka which he said he'll use for snowboarding. Had first holiday 2-23. Went to church. Lots more. Surprised he wrote a lot compared to my first son. He misses home but I am so happy he wrote a lot of... haha and lol and :P and :) in the letter. Hope all your SR's are doing well.
Good morning! A little more at peace after being able to talk to him. He'll never know how much that helped.
His coin has arrived (love it!), waiting for ribbons, reservations made. Oh, I hope March goes by fast!
Thinking back on our conversation, he said he is a Seaman now, not an SR. I guess that means he's ranked up? I can't wait to see him to get all the details, lol.
KYMom: Yes, sounds like he made E-3! That's great! But they maintain their SR title until after they complete Bootcamp so please address the letters that way.
Excuse me,what will be after PIR? My son stay in GL in A school. Can we wait him in boot camp or we should leave and pick up him later? Does boot camp have gift shop? I am sorry if my questions little bit silly.
Natalia, this is just what I've gleaned from the posted info because my son will be staying in GL, too...the form letter says if they are staying in GL, they have to check in to their new command before they can go on liberty and it could take up to 5 hrs. They also might have watch duty too, so the ones who will be leaving GL on Saturday will have a little more time with their loved ones on Friday. GL sailors should get liberty on Saturday & Sunday. There is a NEX but I don't know if we can shop there without our sailors, and I think there is a Naval Museum there too. Won't really know his schedule til we get there, so we might even just go back to our hotel & wait for him to call for us to come back & pick him up.
If your sailor is staying in GL you will have a wait after PIR. It will take several hours for them to get moved to the TSC side for school. You will have to leave the RTC, they will not come back to that base. You can go to the museum and wait, it is right next to the TSC gate.
Just want to add re: sailors staying in GL for A School...they will have daytime liberty with you through the weekend..they must return to base each night.
Your sailor must be with you to shop in the NEXs....except if you are staying at Navy Lodge...in that case, you are given a pass to shop in a smaller NEX nearby without your sailor present.
Good evening all! I just noticed that Sarge's meet n greet PIR 4/4 event is listed. Anyone planning on attending? It's very informative and lots of fun. He is an wonderful man. I've gone before and it was a lot of fun. Please RVSP if going. He orders food based on head count. Last time they ran out.
Not quite, ctz3: Remember, bootcamp week count is ahead of training week count. They should be in training week 3 this week, divisions 2-3 days apart in training. Your division and brother division will be last to become sailors...they go in division number order, low to high, except the 900 divisions are more random (but usually go towards the beginning of PIR week). Hell Week is training week 4, so at some point NEXT week, your division will be in it!
Those that haven't been to a NEX, they sell a lot of nice Navy souvenirs. Tax free. Every time I go into one, I always seem to buy myself a few new Navy items. This one is small.
I just put up my "PERTINENT PIR TIPS" up in the Discussion Forum. Please check it out for alot of tips about planning for PIR and getting around~~ There is also the location for the larger NEX off base, but nearby!

KYMom59 - glad you finally got a call.
caolila - don't give up yet. Last Sat, my SR called much later than expected (6:30 PM Great Lakes time). If not tonight, maybe tomorrow.
My SR also expressed disappointment about Div 129 missing that academic flag.

The single-dash version looks better on my phone (texting). The 2-dash version looks better on my laptop.

"And I pray that you being rooted and
established in love, may have power,
together with all the saints, to grasp how wide
