My daughter got to call but she called her boyfriend...ouch... He did let me know she said hi but only a quick call cuz issues in div & people kept calling training time out and everyone has to stop... This doesn't sound good to me.
  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

YAY!!! Another phone call. Total shocker. Said he just a job. Ship staff RPOC! He gets yelled at a lot but likes it. He asked me to call his girlfriend so we call all talk together. He is such a thoughtful man.

Is there a Carol/Angela on here? Says your SR is his bunkmate and really likes him. LOL!!

  • bagsmom

Who is on Ship 03 Div 127? Also can anyone tell me when He'll Week is for Div 127
  • diannep

bagsmom:  The divisions will be in Training Week 3 this week, entering Hell Week later this week or next week (each division is different).

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

Yay SorinMom!! So happy you got a call. Will continue to pray for our SR's!

  • diannep

Good Morning!  So many get sick, maybe from the overload of vaccinations that overwhelm their systems temporarily.  They make it through!

  • MomTut

Hi All.  Asking for prayers this morning.  My mother-in-law passed away over the weekend.  She was not ill prior to this- but a rather "old" 82 year old.  I spoke with my SR yesterday when he called but did not share this info with him. Knowing 'hell week" was upon him was not the best thing to do.  Also, we had discussed this in general terms prior to his departure not even dreaming that it might become a reality.  But now I'm not sure WHEN we should share this with him.  We don't want his liberty after graduation to be filled with bad news- its a time for celebration for him.  But we don't want to keep this from him too long.  Just torn on the right thing to do.  He's a strong kid- with strong faith- and I'm sure he will handle it well but I just don't know what the best timing would be.  Prayers please.

  • diannep

So very sorry....prayers for your family,  MomTut.  You know your SR best....it is hard for anyone else to tell you what to do. Yes, they need to keep focused on Bootcamp and if hearing this will really distract your SR,....hmmmm.....but could your SR hear this news from someone else by letter?  Someone writing and mentioning how sorry they are that she passed away?  I think you want to be the one to tell him.

Another possibility is to share this news during the I'm a Sailor call, after you have celebrated on the phone with your new sailor....that would give him some time to process it before PIR.  But again, it is really up to you....SRs have been granted permission to leave Bootcamp for funerals....someone just got permission in this week's PIR group to attend a funeral this past weekend....also a grandparent...this sailor had completed training though...was already a sailor.  Not sure if that made a difference.

Prayers for the right decision for you!

  • GreenFish

Oh, MomTut, my heart is breaking for you.  My MIL is 91 yrs and we, too, had this kind of discussion before he left.  You are doing the right thing, and I pray that not only will you find a quiet opportunity to share this with him, but he will have a new strength to help him deal with this.  My condolences to your family.

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

    MomTut, So sorry for your loss. I think a lot of us discussed this topic before our SR's left to BC. Like diannep said, you know your son best and when it would be the best time to tell him. Try not to think about it being bads news if you tell him after graduation. You can celebrate his success at BC and celebrate his grandmothers life. {HUGS}

  • hoosiermamma

MomTut - There is a great deal of love, warmth and support coming from this group that surrounds you and your family. Please lean on us all you need.  May our prayers give you strength.

  • MomTut

Thank you to each and every one of you.  It is a great comfort in knowing I have such a wonderful support group!  Thank you for your suggestions as well.  While I had thought of the Red Cross I hadn't thought about a Chaplin.  Thank you for your help.  I am going to contact the Red Cross to see if we can't "coordinate" this news with his "I'm a Sailor" call. I think that will be best. I can't thank you all enough for being an "objective" ear yet having the compassion to help me through this.  You are a great group of women!

So sorry for your loss MomTut, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

  • tammyl

MomTut, so sorry for your loss. Thoughts, prayers and hugs to you, your family and SR. My daughter got a call that her grandfather died when she went away for a teens for christ convention. Was glad she had some very supportive friends with her. I am sure your SR has someone there to lean on.

  • tammyl

Hotel reservations made got rental car....went to enterprise and they beat their online price by $30, glad I went in.

  • diannep

Congrats on the letters received yesterday.! What was the postmark on those letters?  They normally mail out on Mondays, so it sounds like either the letters took a while to arrive....or....they were mailed on another day?

    Good Morning All !

  • diannep

Thanks, SorinMom:  I was just wondering if the rules had changed and they were mailing out on days other than Mondays.  Looks like Monday is still the day!

  • girl chief

Same here.  Grandparents and I received letters in SoCal yesterday that were post marked Feb 24th (1 week).  The previous letter only took 3 days.  {--|o

  • HawaiiKat

Good morning all! Good to know about the letters arriving late..hope to find one in my mailbox soon too!

YAY!!! Congrats on letters!! So happy they are starting to come in. Sounds like your SR's are doing well. Getting closer!!

  • hoosiermamma

Woohoo!!  Under 30 days on the count down clock!  It will be here before we know it!

  • diannep

SorinMom:  Check out the group Ship 5 on here...you will see the different reasons the SRs are sent home in the posts on there.

    Good Morning All !

  • tammyl

Wow what a surprise today. Must be my lucky day 2 letters postmarked the 3rd.

  • tammyl

I raised a really special daughter...letter says she wants to quit, but going to hang in there. They failed their fitness test, having a hard time working as a team. But the questionaires I sent sounds better than the letter, but they were answered 4 days prior. Lack of sleep has alot to do with her mood.

  • diannep

Just a gentle reminder that we cannot post actual BattleStations dates for a division on here or on FB (RTC's request), but you can post that you have a date and others can private message you for it.   If you posted a date, please click on the "x" and delete!  Thanks!

  • diannep

SorinMom:  Ship 5 is a separate group.  It is the group for those being separated from the Navy.  Here's the link:

    http://navyformoms.com/group/ship17moms

  • diannep

...I know it says Ship 17 in the link (it used to be that) but it is Ship 5.

  • Natalia

Diannep, excuse me, anybody can sent to ship 05? Now I am very worry and afraid of this ship.
  • GreenFish

Got a questionnaire I had sent & a letter today.  He sounded in much better spirits than the grouchy fella I'd spoken to a few days before.  He said no matter the hardship, sickness or RDC, he just keeps going.  The questionnaire gave them a few laughs & the RDC hovering over his shoulder says IT is classified & he can't discuss (so he didn't).  Wants more about what's going on at home & keep sending encouragement & we'll talk about all that BC stuff after PIR.  God willing, we are gonna make it!

  • caolila

Just a curious question to all....do you think the Navy wants these SR's to get sick?  We have these 5 juice berries that boost immune system, and I can't understand why the NAVY wouldn't make something like this available, to help them keep from getting sick.  My conclusion is that it is part of the overall 'test'.  What do you think?

  • GreenFish

No, I don't think they want them to get sick.  It's probably inevitable that these recruits coming in from all over the country could expose others to something they haven't had before and besides, this has to be the harshest winter in years, and I've wondered if that is a deterrent too, perhaps preventing them from getting out & some fresh air.

  • lafoto2

I also heard all the shots they get at once can make them a bit sick.. they'll be strong enough to get through it!

  • CatMom509

    Good Morning!

         "The lamp of the Lord searches the spirit of a man;

it searches out his inmost being."

  • my2boyz (ship 11 div 131)

Good morning all, happy for those of you who got letters today. They should start learning to work at a team soon.
My SR received a jury summons in the mail. Funny because this happened to my other sailor while in A School. I called to verify the procedure again. State of CA asks that the parent sign our name and put (mother) and write RTC's address in the address change box and check mark the box saying temp not domiciled in CA. In case others get one. :)

  • diannep

I believe you all are right on the illnesses.  My son is one who never gets sick...always a healthy kid/adult.  But he got sick when there...it is not only winter that the SRs get sick...it is all year long.  I do believe the tons of shots they get upon arrival temporarily lower their immune systems allowing the many germs there to fester.  I also believe that they have antibacterial soap dispensers around all over there and are told to use them.   And, caolia, I truly don't think they want them to get sick, but sure wish they would use some of the juice berries to help them stay well!

  • diannep

Natalia:  If a SR is going to be separated (discharged) from the Navy, he/she will be sent to Ship 5.  It can happen to any of them at any time.  Try not to worry...concentrate on the fact that your SR is working hard to become a sailor!

  • caolila

This is what we taken when we feel like we are coming down with something.  A half dozen a day or so.  It works really well for us.  Problem is, they are out of them now in bulk form.

    http://www.berrybites.com/

Maybe we need to introduce these at RTC.  :)

  • HawaiiKat

    I agree @SorinMom! Positive thoughts :)

  • Natalia

    Thank you
  • diannep

    Good Morning All !

  • GreenFish

Good morning! A little cabin fever here since the snowstorm Monday.  Still waiting for them to clear our roads, they are running out of salt & just doing main roads til it warms up enough to clear ours.  I have some mail I'd like to get out to my SR! :)

  • hoosiermamma

Mail call yesterday!  SR still sounds very positive and upbeat!  Got survey I had sent.  Had to chuckle when he answered that he doesn't miss his cell phone!  LOL  Said the friendships are growing each day which is good.

  • hoosiermamma

SorinMom - I am hoping we don't have snow on the ground till Easter!  LOL  April at Great Lakes will probably still be a bit on the chilly side, especially early April like our PIR is.  Our SRs are at the half way point and so are we Moms!  AND tomorrow we'll be able to mark another Friday off!  Woohoo!

  • tammyl

Warm weather would be welcomed and any other color but white. Getting tired of this frigid winter. Warmer days are coming and yes tomorrow we get to mark off another Friday.

  • CatMom509
