This group is for those who have loved ones that graduated from boot camp on April 4. 2014. A place to keep in touch with each other as the sailors continue their Navy journey.
Ship staff means he has a specific job on top of his other responsibilities. It is a good thing for most as it gives them experience being in a position. It will only be for while she is in bootcamp.
Happy Friday!!! Mark another one off the calendar. For those of us with SRs in 921, look for them during today's PIR. Not that I have to remind any of us or any of us would forget! The countdown clock is under 13 days folks. We are almost there!
Livestream of PIR service today if anyone wants to watch:
GRADUATION STREAMING LIVE
Watch our recruits graduate live Friday at 0845 Central Daylight Time. Follow the link and join our chat: http://navylive.dodlive.mil/ The video will display under Live Events during broadcast.
For those of you looking for a special gift for your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor, please check out www.pirgifts.com on eBay. They have Challenge Coins, which are a military tradition. Craig, who is one of the veterans on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC. The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion Forum. When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins. This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days! Another really sharp coin is the Core Value one--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge. These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and family. I got some as gifts for my Sailor daughter and she thought her USS Hopper (Ship 03) coin was "cool."
Got a phone call from my SR today.. He said he was told that the training command is in a not so good neighborhood.. Anyone knw about that.. And areas to stay away from?
J-04/128: Some who work at GL A School advised us a couple of years ago that the Ramada is not in a good area. However, others have stayed there since then and said they were fine. I don't remember being concerned when there ... when we drove to RTC.
Not much support at home my significant other isn't very supportive of my daughter and tells me navy this navy that don't you have better things to do. It helps to read the posts, and fell connected. He is supportive of me sometimes, also doesn't understand why I am going to PIR. Told him is my choice so I am going. Sorry my SR hasn't called in almost 2 weeks so kinda weepy and missing her.
Only a mommy has that extra special connection with her children!! We gave birth to them, after all! Most men just don't understand. My husband understood and we fully supported and encouraged my Sailor daughter after we saw how serious she was about choosing her own path in life~~ PIR is a milestone in the Navy career!! There is nothing else like it. No other graduation from a Navy school or training compares to the pride, scale, and reverance of that ceremony~~ :D
There's this misconception that the Navy is this cruise ship, and you get to go out and sail around, and every now and then, you have to swab the deck. But, no, it is a very impressive group of young people that live at sea, in this place that's very uncomfortable. They exude a pride that is well-deserved.
tammyl, i'm really sorry what your going through. This is extremely hard and i agreee with CatMom, us mothers have the special bond with our children and no one can take that away. Navy or not, we should always be supportive to our children. Stay strong.
ammy: I'm so sorry that you don't have the support from your significant other during your daughter's venture....but it seems to happen in families sometimes. So glad that she knows that you are there for her....and I have a feeling that your significant other will come around...when a child is in bootcamp, it is such an emotional journey for the families too...so different than having a child go off to college, although that is emotional too---but with contact with the college student, much more "doable." Once your daughter gets into A School, and you have contact again with her, things will settle down. It is nerve wracking to have to be tied to the phone during bootcamp, so as not to miss a call. UGH! It was over 4 yrs ago for my son but I still remember that "trapped" feeling so I wouldn't miss his call. Not so during A School since they can call/text/email/skype/etc...so hang in there....you are almost at that next stage! :-)
There are some family members that are able to go on a "Tiger Cruise" on their sailor's ship. I have a friend whose son was stationed in Japan (now out of the Navy)....she and her husband were approved to go on his Tiger Cruise. She told me she had a new respect for what the sailors go through...she assured me that it is NOT comfortable, there are lines for everything...dinner, computer use, washing clothes (clothes "develop legs" and walk away if you don't stay with them....very sad), bathroom....the racks they sleep in are not the Hyatt! :-) They work hard....long hours when at sea....she saw her son in a different way after that Tiger Cruise, knowing a little of what he faced everyday....and she was so very proud of him!
okay, I've been scrolling around trying to find the link to buy division t shirts. I thought I read something about not being able to order until after PIR. I would like to order now to be able to wear at Sarge's Meet n Greet.
CatMom: So true about the special bond between mommy/child. My son is having a very hard time with understanding this right now with his own baby son and his mommy...Our 2 sons were adopted at 3 days old....so obviously I didn't give birth to them...but that same mommy bond existed in our family....doesn't mean that daddy wasn't loved tremendously.... that bond is wonderful too....but the mommy bond is very strong!
I'll never forget that as much as my sons loved their dad, after their dad died, they both told me within a week that they were so sad, but felt it would have been so much harder if they had lost me instead. It brought tears to my eyes....they were 15 and 17 when he died...made me realize then and there what a great responsibility I now had to my sons...
No one ever said being a parent is easy! But there are certainly proud moments that we treasure, right? :-)
my2boyz, The link for the t shirts is in the pages column. The pages are located on this page under the member photos. The division t shirts are not available for you to order until the Monday after PIR.
Look up in the Pages section, there is a link for Division T-shirts. You can email the company to see if there is any chance that the shirts for your SR's division might be ready.
my2boyz: Don't believe they allow you to order division tshirts until after PIR (although I think your SRs can?). Please let us know if this has changed since our info was posted. With the past company (Poseiden), you could order before PIR and receive them to wear at PIR. But this new company had said no originally.
My son had PIR 1-10-14. His best friend is graduating 4-4-14, division 133. We have stayed at the Navy Lodge two times so far and will be again this time. It is very nice and is only 5 minutes from the base. No issues at all, but I would expect it to be booked at this point. Also wondering if anyone knows anything about Battlestations coming up next week. I know we are not supposed to know dates but when my son graduated we had a pretty good idea. Just helping my son's friends girlfriend out.
Yep, correct, tammy! Here is the link so keep checking to see when the Get Gate Pass prompt is beside your date. Remember, ladies, all caps for the password which is in your form letter...print as many as you need....write in the info:
Good morning. Diannep, will we get some new form letter from our SR or last one is ok? On our last letter it's no names for visit PIR. Just mom and dad.
My daughter is supposed to graduate 4/4 but I haven't heard whether she passed her running on Monday. Is there any way to find out if she will graduate? Any advice?
Natalia: tammy is correct. No other letter, but your SR will get to update that list probably about now, if not already done. You just won't get another copy of it. Names will be put in then.
proudmomma: If you do not get a call from her saying that she did NOT pass the PFA, then go on the assumption that she did (she would call you if she had not passed it by BattleStations day). So pray that you don't hear from her until after BattleStations! But remember....even if she didn't pass the run, she should have at least one or two more chances to pass it and still be at PIR. If she doesn't do it then, she would stay in FIT DIVISION and keep trying, but once she misses her own PIR, she will not have one...would just keep trying, pass, then do BattleStations, and head to A School. SO prayers that she has wings on her feet!
