This group is for those who have loved ones that graduated from boot camp on April 4. 2014. A place to keep in touch with each other as the sailors continue their Navy journey.
Natalia: So very sorry you have not received a call. I know going up to PIR without knowing what is going on is hard....I'm hoping that all is well, and you will spot your new sailor right away during PIR.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the Sailors and their families!! Safe travels to an awesome PIR!!!
Remember, PIR is just the start of your Sailors' Navy journey! Please keep plugged into Navy for Moms as we have groups for A school, C school, ratings (jobs), bases, ships, states, regional, twins & multiples, and the Christian Chat that I am a part of~~
Got our call from our son today...He is so excited for Friday. I was so happy to talk to him and here about all that he has done today. Proud parents of a Navy Sailor. Congrats to all the families.
Does anyone know how to figure out the best place to sit for PIR...My son said his div is the last to come in and we wanted to make sure we were in the right spot in the hall so we could be closest to him?
teeksfam: There are division sections to sit in...marked by that division's Honor Guard/Division number. They position you all to be in front of your sailor's division.
Safe Travel today to all. Enjoy Sarge's MeetandGreet tonight! Be EARLY to PIR tomorrow (gates open at 6:30 a.m.)...remember this hint if you are driving there:
On Buckley, main drag to RTC, stay to the left (car line for RTC will be on your right). Bypass RTC and then turn around, approaching from the other direction. It is then an easy left turn into RTC, no wait!
Can't wait to be at GL tomorrow morning. When I graduated from Army Boot/Ait in 1986, I don't remember this being such a big deal...Can't wait to watch my son Enter that building tomorrow...So proud!
What an amazing day today was...Our son went through PIR today, and all I can say it was amazing...I have seen him through many milestones in his life and this was the proudest I have ever been...As a veteran myself, I can't explain the pride I had as I saw him walk into that hall today.
Thank you to this site for teaching us so much about the Navy...
Thank you to the other 800+ families who have a son or daughter who have now dedicated their service to this great country....
Thank you to all at Great Lakes for making this an amazing day.
Thank you to all on this site who have provide inspiration to all
Yes! Today was amazing...I was ecstatic to see my son, see that he continued a leadership role, and managed 5's on his rack and folding! Completely different from how he left his room. LOL...very proud day!!! Congrats to all.
Natalia: Go to the GROUPS tab up top, and put in Great Lakes A School....you can then join that group. Stay on this one too....it will now become an Alumni group, but we hope you all will check in here with news about your sailors!
What an experience!!! Sarge's info was great as well as seeing all the families! Many great sailor hugs! Just tired, as we all know not much sleep. But we'll worth the extra time with my sailor! Even if it's at the airport!
Dearest Admins of this PIR group, I just wanted to take a moment before I would forget (again) to thank you for all your support. Yes it was an emotional time (between not getting the form letter and all the way to waiting for the "I am a Sailor" Call) but you all made this rollercoaster more manageable. I am going to recommend this and all the sites I visited and found great support to my local community and especially moms who are afraid of what the Navy can do for their children. I found that my little boy has truly turned into a Navy Sailor. I am so grateful.
It has really been a long and emotional weekend... my daughter headed to Pensacola this morning. I was able to spend all day Fri. And Sat.I then was lucky enough to have a flight after hers so I was able to spend extra time with her at the airport...Wow what a weekend!!!
Is there any changed/updated info that you all found at PIR that we N4Moms veterans need to be made aware of? If so, please post it here! We want to make sure we give nothing but updated info to the future groups! Thanks! Congrats to your sailors!
This school is required by several different ratings. Basically what is does is teach everyone that a thing-a-ma-jig is not a watcha-ma-call-it. It puts everyone on the same page.
If something breaks they need to be able to say this thing-a-ma-jig broke, and the repair person needs to know that the thing-a-ma-jig is not what s/he calls a watch-ma-call-it. Or if you don't know how a watcha-ma-call-it works, you want to be sure they don't teach you how to use a thing-a-ma-jig.
Hi everyone. I have had several emails and messages asking if there are any updates on my son-in-laws family who was swept away by the mudslide in WA. It is easier to update here than to send out so many messages and emails.
Billy Splillers and his children were home when the mudslide hit. His wife was at work. Their four year old son was among the first to be rescued after the mudslide. He was pulled free from the mud by firefighters and a helicopter and was reunited with his mom when she found him at a local hospital. It was announced on Monday that Billy was identified as the latest slide victim. Their daughter Kaylee, 5, was among the first victims identified. The body of their 13-year-old son (Billy's stepson) Jovon was identified last Thursday and their 2-year-old baby girl Brooke, is still missing. The family truly appreciates all the love, support, thoughts and prayers from all of our extended Navy family and I really appreciate the support we have received from all of you. There are 3 victims that have not been identified and 12 are still missing. Please continue to keep all the families affected by this disaster in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks so much <3 <3 <3
Diannep....n sure if this has been posted but if your sailor leaves great lakes on the 12:30 am bus...unless you just want to give them their cell phone...you probably could wait till 3 or so, cuz they go to the uso and then come down to go to their airline counter then wait to get their tickets and we didn't go through security till about 4 by time we got gate passes. A few more hours of sleep would of been great since we just sat and waited for our sailor.
This is the first chance I've had to write. I can hardly believe it's been a week already. This site is so helpful. I went to the PIR knowing what to expect and can't imagine how helpless I would have felt if I didn't come armed with all the info that this site and lemonelephant, diannep, elen0502, CatMom, mrsb, BsNukemom, A's-momma Erin, Craig and all you others provide. Bonus: I was able to help out some other moms during PIR with some of that info. Thank you to all.
diannep - I posted some advice on the Boot Camp group about this, but I may be worth adding to the list of PIR stuff: "When you get your "I'm a Sailor!" call, ask your sailor in what position they will be marching in their division at PIR (such as: far right row, 4th from the back). I forgot to ask and spent the first few minutes, after they entered the door, trying to pick her out in the formation. They really do all look alike."
