My son is on ship 13 div 081 -got a phone call on Saturday - it was wonderful to hear from him. Can't wait to receive a letter. Sounds like all is good!
I wish all you guys a blessed Xmas and a memorable New Year
I got my first letter from my SR. granddaughter and I was so thrilled she sounds fine say she was rushing so the letter was short but was thrilled to hear from her and can't wait to here from her again i am going to see how long it takes to get my letter so I can make sure she get a letter every week
Yes, it is the merriest of Christmas mornings. Woke up to getting to see a pic of my son!! Of course it was soo worth looking thru 600 pics to find him. Hope all you ladies have the same luck (especially today) in getting to see your "babies". ⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️
I woke up this morning and went through the pictures twice. My son wasn't in any pictures but we just got a Merry Christmas call. Keep your phones near just in case :)
I went through all of the RTC photos, and couldn't find one of my SR, so here is one I took of her and her brother at his PIR two years ago. He is now a Petty Officer 2nd class and is home today. I'm a lucky mom.
If your SR will be flying out to A school, you can stay at the Navy Lodge, which is about $66/$71 a room--very clean! (If your SR has A school at Great Lakes, the Navy seems to be not allowing them to visit their families in their rooms.
The other recommended hotels are Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Springhill Suites, and Courtyard Marriot, all in the Waukegan/Gurnee area, about 10 mins from Recruit Training Command (RTC). Sarge's Meet & Greet, a Super Walmart, and various eating places are all in this same area~
Yes. Navy Lodge has been very iffy lately with those sailors staying in GL for A School. Sometimes they are allowed to visit families in Navy Lodge, sometimes not. We just want all who have sailors staying in GL for A School to be aware of this possibility. You will not know until after PIR when your sailors move over there and tell you if they can visit you at Navy Lodge. It doesn't seem to happen at every PIR....just sometimes. Seems that those flying out do not have a problem visiting families in Navy Lodge....they are still under the authority of RTC, not GL A School.
coachjb: If moving over to GL for A School, they do this right after PIR is over, takes a few hours, and then they have Liberty with you until later that night, and Daytime Liberty with you Sat and Sun as well.
If flying out, they most likely will be flying out the day after PIR, bussed late that night to the airports. You can meet them there and visit with them, bring ID and you can get an airlines gate pass to wait until departure. They won't know their flights until right before PIR.
What are the difference in Gl Schools I am sorry to sound like I don't no but I don't no I never went through this before my Grandaughter will be going to school for Criminal Justice will they pick her location or do she have options
When my son flew out to A school we met him at 6 am at the airport in order to get gate pass. There was a rule that you had to have your sailor with you inorder to get one, but I don't know if that is still an issue. I'm still planning on getting there at dark thirty just to be safe. I miss my girl.

Valerie,
That's cute that your SR would score the 5 for a candy bar!! Whatever motivates them, ehhh??!
Your SRs' moods will go up and down during Boot Camp, just like all of you, but it will get better and better!
