    Hello All!

"Train a child in the way he should go,

and when he is old he will not turn from it."

                                                   Proverbs 22:6

  • diannep

Rebecca:  It should say 944, not 943 in the discussion above.  So feel free to join that group.  It will be corrected shortly!

  • diannep

    Good Morning!

  • Brandi

Good Morning! If anyone is interested for their trip, Entertainment Books for this year are on sale for $5 with free shipping. There is a North Chicago book available. I just ordered one, figured what I don't use, I'll leave the book at the front desk at checkout. I believe the offer expires this weekend.

Hi, question on lodging for PIR.  May I book a room at the Navy Gateway Suites?

  • Shelley

2 moms on the facebook site have posted this morning from DIV 299 that they have received calls this morning.  Not my sons DIV, but if your child is - keep your phones near you!! Happy Wed to all My Navy Peeps!!

  • poppersmom

Just got off the phone with my baby it was hard not to cry like a baby because he cried he home sick but knows everybody in his div he said he talks to everyone and he's ok I miss him so much
  • ellen0502

goodgirls3, You can book a room at the Gateway Inn and Suites, but if you yourself don't have DoD identification you will be restricted as to what you can do, and where you can go on base if your Sailor is not with you.

  • MrsG

I'm crying tears of you for the moms who received calls. Congratulations!
  • Brandi

Congrats to the Mom's who got calls today! We will be staying at Navy Lodge for PIR, and I want to take my SR for steak that night. Any recommendations near the Lodge that's good? Not Morton's or Ruth's Chris, maybe a local favorite?

  • MrsG

    I have a question please:
My SR will be flying out to Mississippi for A School. Does anyone know which airport they fly out from? I'm thinking of staying in a hotel closer to that airport.
  • diannep

MrsG:  It could still be either one, but my son flew to ATL/Meridian MS 5.5 yrs ago from OHare.  You can ask on the Meridian A School N4Moms group and see how many answers you get there, but there is really no guarantee.  You may want to find a hotel that is halfway in between both....I believe they are about 30+ miles apart.

  • MrsG

    Thank you diannep.
  • diannep

Chris'Mom:  There is a restaurant that was recommended by someone else called Stevens.  It is known as a steak restaurant and this person said it was very good.

Any other suggestions for hotels almost everything is booked only red carpet inn who know about?
  • diannep

poppersmom:  Here is a review of Red Carpet if you need any info:

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g36461-d250194-Reviews-Red_...

You can also try to look a little further away if you will have a car...Libertyville and other surrounding areas...if most of the hotels are booked in the Great Lakes area.

  • MrsG

Someone on the fb site just put out a long list of hotels. I believe Red Roof was on the "do not go" list.
  • diannep

We advise all to check the hotels they are interested in on:

    www.TripAdvisor.com

Most all of those reviews will be from Navy families.

  • diannep

    The ones we suggest are:

Courtyard, Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn.....all 4-5 miles from base, near Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR.  Call these hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount.

  • Lea Carlies Mom

Has anyone received a call from ship 12 div 302?  I was able to reserve 1 night at the Navy Lodge.  I needed more but they are all booked up

  • tristansmom

I booked a room at the Ramada Inn. Got a really good deal on airfare, hotel and rental car. $700.00 for two people! Just counting the days:):)

  • Lea Carlies Mom

That is a great deal! What number shall I call for that arrangement?
  • CatMom509

    Hello All!

My mother in law is a gem. She found the plane tickets through cheap tickets and researched the hotel and car packages. They are having a summer sale at the Ramada and the car is around 150.00 I believe.

  • Lea Carlies Mom

Awesome because The Navy Lodge is all booked up.  Thanks so much for the info

    You are welcome, poppersmom.

  • MrsG

    Welcome
  • HooyahWife

I just got round trip airfare through Alaska Airlines for my son and I for $500 and that's including travel insurance on the tickets. I booked at the Holiday Inn express for $214. They do honor the navy graduation discount! If you have AAA, you can get a car for $13.00 a day. Just more options for you loved ones out there!
  • HooyahWife

Also, Costco is a great place to buy airfare and hotel packages if you have a membership!
  • Lu

I'll be leaving this group, just got a call from my son, he hurt his shoulder and he said they are sending him home medically. I hope that they will reevaluate him before they send him home though

  • HooyahWife

Lu, I am so sorry to hear that!! I'll be thinking and praying for your family and son. I hope he has a speedy recovery!
  • Lu

thank you, it was hard to hear how upset he was over the phone. ;-(

  • jayzmom

Aww Lu I hope its not serious.  Maybe he will be able to re enter once he gets released from his Dr

  • HooyahWife

Lu, I can't even imagine! My heart is just broken for your family and son. I know how much they mentally and physically prepare for this and to just have it end like that. I am so sorry :(
  • Lea Carlies Mom

Lu, I am so very sorry to hear this...my Prayers are with your son and that he heals quickly and returns to the Navy where he wants to be.

  • kvonavymom(Kellie)

I found really great prices on Southwest Airlines only $84 each way from NY area and they offer 2 bags free and no change fee other than if the new flight cost more...

  • diannep

kvonavymom:  I believe that they offer you a discount code for car rental too, don't they?  They used to.  They are a great airlines to fly....they fly into both Chicago-Midway and Milwaukee (Milwaukee is further but much shorter drive to GL due to no traffic).

  • diannep

Lu:  So very sorry....I too hope that they do re evaluate him and consider keeping him on medical hold to heal....please keep us posted on here, ok?   Prayers for your SR and YOU!

ok, have to vent. Obviously, my phone is attached to me. Yesterday afternoon, I got  a call from an 800# that said "United States". My heart stopped as I answered, at first there was nothing, then music, then a foreign voice wanting to "lower my visa interest rate". Needless to say, I invented a few words that I won't repeat here. Talk about wanting to reach out and touch someone! Telemarketers be forewarned, I bought a whistle and I'm ready! Do these  people understand that hell hath no fury like a new Navy Mom who has't heard from her baby in weeks?!?

  • diannep

...I should add, mimifabs, that it is usually easier to contact them by email.  It is rare that they get to all of the phone calls. Hoping the link below works.

    Good Morning!

  • MrsG

Lu: I'm sorry to hear about your son. I pray the miraculous healing of God upon him, which will render him victorious over his injury. May all of you be forever strengthened by this experience.
