I was so sure I would receive a call yesterday from my 305 SR....no such luck. I just keep praying for his strength, endurance, faith and confidence in himself.

Navymom:  So true that Sarge is a gem~  But I don't want anyone to feel they have to make a basket to bring or donate money at the MeetandGreet....  This MeetandGreet is given to you all as a gift....so for those who don't want to contribute or just aren't in a position to, please understand that it is not necessary and still attend the MeetandGreet and enjoy!

MoNavyMom:  They will be updating their guest lists right before PIR, so no worries.  Names will put on the lists then.  We just ask that if you have a guest attending who goes by a nickname which is the way your SR knows this person, please send your SR the name that will be on that person's ID so there are no issues at the gate with names not matching!

Because some SRs get assigned watch duty when calls are being made and it's up to the RDCs whether calls are made up or not~~  Just getting the families used to no contact for long, long periods of time....a normal part of Navy life.

Texkk:  Sarge holds a MeetandGreet the night before PIR for all families of the sailors.  It is free to you and he serves dinner.  He does accept any donations people want to give, since it is out of pocket for him and his wife each week, but not necessary to participate in that!  I will post the link to his page in a minute that gives more info.

Texkk:  Yes, there is info on the MeetandGreet under the EVENTS section, below and to the left.  However, he says he cannot pik up the RSVPs from this page, so he asks that all RSVP through the link I posted below.  He likes to have an idea of how much food to order for the dinners.

Yes, HooyahWife.  He would be allowed to do that.  The OHare Hilton is actually inside the hotel and some use their "day rate" to provide a place for their new sailor/family to rest while waiting for flights.  Once he is all checked in, he should be able to do that.

mimifabs. This call should be longer, and if your Sailor has time more than one call can be made.

lbjc:  Yes, they are allowed phone cards.  They can buy them there at the NEX with their supply cards....or....you all can mail them one.  Get one with at least 250 minutes since the pay phone connection eats up alot of their minutes.

mimifabs:  Usually they have a certain amount of time to make their call(s), and they can divide it up as they want to.

My family will be staying at the Naval Lodge, how does my SR obtain the chit he needs to visit us there after PIR?

Your Sailor should not need a chit for the Navy Lodge, which is off the actual locked base, PIR weekend. That rule has been flip floppity in the last few months, but I think it is all straight now.

So I talked to my SR and he said he sent the form letter 2 weeks ago and I have not gotten it, I emailed RTC and their response was write him a letter and have him send another one. So frustrating, traveling from CA need flights,hotels,babysitter needs dates, car rental. Any suggestions ?

and his PIR is 9/11

We did not get our letter either because he transposed the numbers on our address. We had to ask him to send another one too. I believe you can do everything except get the gate pass without the letter. We are staying at the Sleep Inn right off base. We are arriving on Thursday afternoon since graduation is first thing Friday morning.

If you know for sure that your SR has a 08/11/2015 PIR date (he told you it was, right??), you can go ahead and at least book the hotel.  No deposit required and easy to change.  Call the hotel direct for the Navy graduation rate.  Suggested hotels are Navy Lodge, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Courtyard Marriot (the last 4 are all in Waukegan, IL).  10 mins from RTC, Sarge's Meet & Greet, SuperWalmart, and eateries nearby.

Just a reminder for those booking flights to consider Southwest Airlines into either Chicago-Midway or Milwaukee.  Milwaukee is further in miles, but a much shorter drive due to no traffic (about 45 min).  Midway is an hour+ depending on traffic.  Southwest charges no change fee-- so if your SR is setback in training for any reason---there is no problem changing flights/dates, and 2 bags check for free.
