AWP6: Also, is your hubby staying in GL for A School? Those flying out will not be there for an "overnight." They are bussed to the airports later PIR night to wait for Sat. flights....
Awe AWP6, it sounds like he really misses you and is hoping for that extra time with you. Even though he can't spend the night you will be able to spend Friday evening, all day Saturday and all day Sunday with him unless he has watch at some point for a few hours. Enjoy PIR weekend. It is AMAZING!!!!
It was $300 cheaper for us to fly into Midway than into Milwaukee from where we are. You may want to compare. A nice rental car is still only running us $175 - still a huge savings. Plus...Chicago! Just saying :) Too bad the Cubs are away that weekend.
Hmmm.....if you exposed a SR's last name in a previous post on here, please copy/paste that post deleting the last name, and then click on the "x" to delete the original post. We are not allowed to post SRs' last names on here at all. Thanks!
Is that on Southwest, Kathleen? If so, you know that they have a discount rental car code that they give you, I believe. Is that the $175 rate you mentioned?
305: My SR's girlfriend got a call today!!!! He is still sick but is determined and doing his best. Keep those phones nearby today! I wish I could have gotten one, but I am happy he got to call! It must have made his day to hear her voice:)
305:Also, saw a post from another mom on a different group state that they start firefighting next week. Does that mean they have completed "Hell Week"? Thanks in advance!
My SR from 306 called late this morning too. A bug must be going around because my husband has a cold too. He said they have a countdown for graduation started and everyone was excited to see the number "20" on the board. Crazy we are only 20 days away! On a personal note, do any mamas or loved ones have a hard time after their SR calls? I'm so so grateful to hear from him because I know it's a luxury and some of you guys would kill to hear your SRs voice. I just have a really hard time getting back into a "groove" after he calls. I feel so silly even saying this...just wondering if it's part of the process or if I'm just weird.
Remember, your "invitation" to graduation is having your name on the guest list that your SR turns into RTC. They update their original lists about a week before PIR.
Yes, @Diannep that is on Southwest. The rental car is also through them, but I am unsure that it is at a discount or just a convenience to get it all done in one place.
Kathleen: Looks like you DO get a discount when booking a car when booking Southwest flights online. This is what it says under the different car rental companies they offer on the site:
Additional Details
For reservations, book online at Southwest.com and enter coupon number MUAZ017 in the Coupon field to receive up to 2,400 points and enter BCD #U072700 in the Corporate/ID Rate field to receive up to 30% or more off your rental. Discounts greater than 30% may be available in certain markets. Be sure to provide your Rapid Rewards account number at the time of reservation or check in to receive your points.
amanda: In the past, many have stayed in that area. Marriott is great, so I'm sure that you will be fine! Just add about 10-15 extra minutes to your travel time to RTC.
Oh Happy Day!!!!!!! My SR Div 305, gave blood today and I saw a picture of him on FB:):):) Bonus, the hubby called and said I have a letter waiting! I am over the moon!
Don't think that is true, HooyahWife. Once they are released by RTC, they are not under their rules anymore. BUT....they DO know the problems they will have if they don't behave. We have never heard that there is an issue with family members/sailors staying during the day at the Hilton OHare (inside the airport) while waiting for flights (the Hilton has a day rate). Maybe this info is from someone confused with being allowed overnight Liberty? That is not allowed at all. The sailors at the airports hang out in the USO centers normally. It is strongly advised that they do NOT leave the airports with family members even if they have a long wait....because if anything happens and they miss their flights....uh oh when they get to A School. Not a pretty picture!
Hooyah Wife, I will pay close attention to the information which the RTC sends out. They are the ones who know what "their" rules are, not saying that the admins are not a great source of information because they are, but rules change.
Thanks, MrsG. Just confirmed that. Was told it was not a new rule....so seems that those who did it in the past were not supposed to. What I don't understand though is that the sailors CAN visit the hotel rooms of their family members after PIR during the day, just no overnights. This would be the same thing? Still PIR weekend....just visiting in their family member's hotel room at the airport. Interesting that there is a discrepancy there....but whatever! Your sailors will know what is allowed and what is not!
Good morning ladies . I was just wondering if we have to print a pass for those who rent cars to get through the gate. I understood in the letter that we have to print some kind of pass, but my son said all I need is the gate security code which is on the letter.
Can anyone clarify or confirm the gate pass, please?
The reason that they cannot visit when they are waiting for flights is that they are no longer on Liberty, they are now on orders. So they have to follow the rules for being on orders.
I'm sure they weren't supposed to visit in the past but honestly this is the first time I have heard this come up...and that is a new written addition to the Liberty info that RTC puts out.
One thing about RTC is that verbal info to the sailors comes first but what gets out to the public can take a while. Sometimes a looonnng time and in some case maybe never. My assumption for the long time or never for written is because, well, things can move slow and fast and always have a priority level or maybe they decide it is a temporary change. That's just the nature of the beast.....
Not a slam on RTC at all...the personnel work diligently there ...I really appreciate it when they get something in writing forus to refer too. :-)

Friends,
This scripture is so appropriate for the Battlestations that your SRs will be going through soon. Perhaps you can share with your SR in a letter now.
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you; and when you pass
through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord,
your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior..."
