Hmmm, I didn't word this very well. I do not know the actual reason for them not being allowed to visit, I was just trying to differentiate between being "on Liberty" and "on orders". 

FTLW:  I was in contact with someone at RTC...I was told that this is NOT a new rule...always has been a rule....but I  know many in the past were not aware of that and posted after PIR that it worked out well for them to get the OHare Hilton day rate and have a place for their sailor to rest and relax before flying out. 

GP Mom:  Yes, every car going on base needs to have the gate pass.  If in a rental, you will also need to show the rental agreement and your drivers license.  Those driving personal vehicles will need to show registration and insurance, in addition to the gate pass.

The password in the form letter enables you to download this pass.  It will be available to download 10-11 days before PIR on the RTC website, Graduation page (scroll to bottom and look for your PIR date).  It will say "Get Gate Pass" after your PIR date when it is available.  Be sure to type the password in ALL CAPS.  If you have a problem printing it, try another browser.

Scroll down to the bottom and find your PIR. At the end of it will be a link that says "Get gate pass".

The Password you use is confidential between you and your Recruit. Do not share it with anyone. RTC is a closed base and you must have a pass to be allowed to drive your vehicle onto base. DoD stickers from other bases will not work.

If you are taking a shuttle and walking onboard for PIR you do not need the VGP. However, if you plan on driving your new Sailor back and dropping him off inside RTC you will need it.

You are right diannep...it is completely new news for us here on N4M's. Never heard of any issues at all, but as we all know we on here only represent a small percentage of the newly Graduating Sailors :-)

It's good that it is in writing for the public now.

My addition as to why it may be okay on one day and then different the next was just to explain the difference of Rules on liberty and rules while on Government orders.

Just one more thing...

On the FB post about Liberty...many members ask a lot of great questions that RTC PAO has answered so I would read through those.

One that I was going to remark on here they addressed as far as a "why" they can't go to the hotel while on orders (why they really shouldn't leave the AP at all) is that Group Leaders are assigned to those going in large groups to their respective schools. They are in charge (mustering up to get on the plane and when they get to A school) of the new Sailors but "not responsible" for them being where they are supposed to be.

Yep, compliance is HUGE in the Navy....following rules, no matter how many, how strict, etc....those who learn this early on have an easier time in life!   So, whatever rules RTC has must be complied with, i.e., not visiting the OHare Hilton when flying out and on orders!

GM Dia, and Sailors mamas to be....So I tell my son in a letter this morning only 13 days 20 hours 10 mins and 7 sec until I see you, but when I wake up it will be 12 days but I leave in 11 days and by the time u get this letter it will be 9 days, poor kid he probably thinks I need meds. lol

I can't find the information/procedure about who & when to send my daughter her contacts & mascara for PIR. I want to be sure it gets to her on time.

Usually your SR daughter would have requested it from you, so she knows it is coming.  She probably can buy new mascara from the NEX, but the contacts is something you would have to send her.  Most put them in the contact lens case with plenty of solution for the travel and include a small bottle of the contact lens solution in the bubble mailer also  Mark clearly "Contact Lens" on the outside of the mailer.  She will have to open it in front of her RDCs~~

It should be fine that you have the registration card, proof of insurance, and the gate pass to get access onto RTC~~ 

HooyahWife:  Sit towards the end of a row for easy access to stairs to step behind bleachers if you need to.  You can let him run around in the hall  prior to PIR to get some energy out...make sure someone is saving your seats for you.  There most likely will be lots of little ones there....also take his favorite snacks in (they are allowed) to entertain him .

Good morning! I am wondering about testing/battlestations. With 9 days left (yay:), I am hoping the "no news is good news" still applies. I have seen on another group that they have received phone calls for both I'm a Sailor/failed my test. Also that PIR 9/4/15 calls came this past weekend. Should I expect one of those calls this weekend? Starting to stress as the letters have become shorter and fewer without mention of how his tests have been going. Sorry for the long post/question. tristansmom, I think we are all pns and needles right now, I heard of some knowing a week before and others a day before... which that day thing wont work for us we will be on a plane already, all we can do is be some Praying Mommas.

tristansmom:  This group will start BattleStations this Thurs night for some divisions...the rest will go early next week.  So some will be getting wonderful calls this Fri...the rest will get them.next week!  With 13 divisions going through, it will take them 4 nights to get all through.  They will either go Thu, Sun, Mon and Tues or Thu, Mon, Tues, Wed.   Yes, sometimes they go as late as Wed night, with calls on Thurs afternoon.  Lets hope they go Sun night instead of Wed night next week.  Then, all I'm a Sailor calls will be completed by Wed afternoon.

Although some random calls come in the weekend before PIR every now and then, usually they don't.

I have a room reserved at the Sleep Inn very close to the base that I do not need. Before I release it. does anyone in this group need a room? We can call together and maybe they will let you take over the reservation. Let me know.
