Has anyone heard of Sarge's Meet & Greet? Where is it? How could we donate a basket? Get more info? Also wondered if anyone else has heard that those going to Pensacola may not fly out for a bit yet?
Some families choose to make a themed basket (sometimes they do a state basket) to donate to the MeetandGreet to be auctioned off. Monies go to Sarge and his wife, who put this on each week for the sailor's families---providing a free dinner to all. If is NOT required at all....most will not make baskets, but some may want to. The funds help with the finances that Sarge/wife pay to put on the MeetandGreet. The entire event is free to the sailors' families!
Occasionally some of the sailors fly out on Sunday rather than Saturday, although most go on Sat. You sailor will not know this for sure until right before PIR....orders are issued after they complete BattleStations. Last week's PIR group had some Pensacola-bound sailors who didn't fly out until Sunday. Not sure if that was the info you heard about, but each PIR group is different. We do recommend that families try and stay until Sunday at least so they don't miss any extra time with their sailors if this should happen to them.
Don't worry Bella - only a few divisions have received that call. They should start coming in, but I have been told they can come even as late as the day before PIR!!! Hopefully we all get them soon!!
I think there will be I'm a Sailor calls today....my guess is that 303/304/944 went through last night.. Keep those phones close this afternoon from 2 pm Central on!
Hi all. Just talked to my Sailor (Div 302). He called from "Recruit Heaven" where there's a Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and other fun food and things to do. Here are some of the things I heard:
make sure to bring driver's licenses to base
people in chapel stay put until they are directed to place where we see our sailors
he's not sure of curfew time Friday so if anyone else heard, please let me know
he can't have his phone until he's off base but I'm guessing they'll all want them in the airport
he can authorize a certain number (he's not sure of number) to wait with him at the airport
he's not 100% sure how liberty works once he gets to A school, but said there was a schedule, any advice appreciated as we'd like to visit, and he will have a little time at the base before school starts
I'd love to connect with families of a guy they call Pebble (related to last name), another they call Nemo, and one from div 301 who will be an ABH. He mentioned other friends but I can't think of creative ways to anonymously describe them. If you are going to the meet and greet, we'd love to connect. Please message me...also not exactly sure how that works BTW.
Bringing our sailor a flag that was flown over Iraq (given to us by a friend in the service when he was too young to remember) to take with him on his journeys. Any other gift ideas?
Tina TIm's Mom: Since your new sailor will be staying in GL for A School, he will move over there shortly after PIR is over (they move as a group). You will pick him up over on that base (nearby) a few hours later. He then has Liberty with you until 8 or 9 that night (he will know). He will have daytime Liberty with you Sat. and Sun. also, but has to return to base each night. He can take back personal items when he returns to that base.
By the way, neat idea to give your sailor that flag from your friend!
Some like to get their new sailors watches for graduation. Some buy them new electronics...phone, laptop, etc. It really is up to you and your sailor what you want to give!
HooyahWife - Yes, I'm afraid it does from what I can dig up.
I hope they instruct the Sailors with children about the "does and dont's" in their Liberty briefing.
PIR is the exception in that they can of course pick them up and give them a hug and kiss. But no carrying them out to the car or holding their hand while they walk from what I am reading.
The spouse has to be the primary one to hold the children and push the stroller or hold the baby /child in their lap.
What I am reading is from posts on here and the net. I am trying to find something from the Navy itself or maybe I'll ask on Boot Camp Moms and AntiM (retired Navy) will see it and have an answer for sure.
HooyahWife: I'm checking with RTC on this issue also.
Good Morning All !
Ok, thinking 305/306 went through last night...and either 307/308 or the 800 divisions maybe? All remaining divisions need to have phones ready this afternoon.....
Dianne P & FTLW, thank you for the info and for looking into that for me. I definitely don't want to get my husband in trouble and want to be respectful of the rules.
HooyahWife: No problem with your husband holding your child's hand and even carrying him, according to RTC. Just verify that with hubby and then you will be good to go! He has to do what he is comfortable with in uniform!
Congratulations to the last sailors of this PIR group! Safe travel today, enjoy Sarge's MeetandGreet tonight, and be early to PIR tomorrow.
Hint for those driving to PIR: Stay to the left on Buckley.....car line to RTC on your right. Bypass RTC and turn around at the train station right past it. Head back from the opposite direction. Easy left turn onto the base, no wait! Shuttles from the hotels don't wait in the car line either.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the new Sailors and their families!! Safe travels to all to an awesome PIR!!
Remember, PIR is just the beginning of the Navy journey. Keep plugged into Navy for Moms where there are groups for A school, C school, ratings (jobs), bases, ships, states, regional, twins and multiples, and the "Christian Navy Moms" that I am a part of!
Also, the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command page on Facebook puts up photos from each PIR. If you see your Sailor in a pic or more, you can download it to your own computer by either clicking on the picture, going down to Options and downloading it OR right click, "Save Picture As" to a file on your computer~~

When you RSVP to Sarge's Meet and Greet you must use the "RSVP link" he has added to the EVENT page. It is in the Event Description text box.
Do not RSVP in the Comment box in the EVENT page here on N4M. The RSVP section on the EVENT is disabled as well.
