My son graduated BC in April of 2012. He is an ET, stayed in GL for A School, went to C School in San Diego. He has also had additional schooling and training since (an ETs learning is never done). He is forward-deployed and is attached to is a Whidbey Island-class landing ship.
A few other veteran moms will be joining to help answer questions, offer support, and give you lots of information.
There will also be lots of pages posted with information for you along the way. They will be posted as the subjects come up!
Remember there are no dumb questions, so ask away!
Fasten your seatbelts...the next few weeks will be a roller coaster ride, but at the end of the ride you are in for the best hug ever!!
Please take the time to read the PAGES here, on your PIR GROUP. The PAGES are located on the right side of this main comment wall, directly under the member photos.
My Sailor Daughter's PIR was March 2013--can't believe how fast time has flown!. She is an IT3 (Information Systems Technician, Petty Officer Third Class). I primarily provide scriptural encouragement for the PIR groups, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and a few of the other groups that I am a member of. I'll also help out with anything that I am familiar with--all kinds of tidbits I learned during my daughter's Boot Camp experience~~ This site really made the time go much faster. I'm so thankful that my Sailor daughter sent me the link for this awesome group of friends when she enlisted!! Count 9 Fridays and before you know it, you'll be seeing your baby again at PIR!! Here we go!!!
The first your SR may be able to share "something" is on the "I'm a Sailor" call-- Yea, we didn't get the clear details till in the hotel room after PIR~~ :)
Thank goodness for my son's recruiter. No box, no form letter..his recruiter found the information for me: Ship 3 Div 315...yeah, I feel so much better. So what information is actually in the form letter since I still do not have one. Will the PIR date be 25SEP15? I am sending a letter to my SR tonight!
I did ok when "the box" came. I cried but had to laugh because it was so Ash that everything was a jumbled mess.....but the "letter" that just about killed me. The all caps and all neatly written and not a sign of her typical chicken scratch like mine?!??!! The tears flowed. Flights, hotel and rental car are booked! If anyone is coming from Central or Bay Area Cali Frontier has $49 red eye flights for only $49 out of SF!
My baby is on ship 3 DIV 321....I see Levi'smom has a kiddo on the same ship and Div....can you ask him to keep an eye on my baby? Hehe
Bekkelee I too had a laugh when I got the box. He sent back a empty water bottle and a bag of his favorite sunflower seeds. I will definitely tell him to keep a eye out for your girl ;)
OMG, will have to get a letter to him ASAP and find out what is going on. How many can come to the PIR on the 18th..4?? I better move and reserve rooms.Still no box, called Fedex and without a tracking number they can't help, one lost phone and it was new, uggg...Thnak you everyone! I thought his PIR would be the 25th, he left on the 28th so thought when everyone else was getting letters with the 25th as the PIR date I was good with thinking that was his too...
Hey everyone, I want to give you a "HEADS UP" to be prepared to possibly receive calls from your SRs this weekend! The call will show up as "847", "Waukegan, IL", "Pay Phone", or "Government" or anything else that may be unfamiliar. If it is a sales call, just politely tell them "No, thank you." Please also let your family members know about this too~~
When you do receive a call, could you please post which division is calling also, so other moms/loved ones know to expect a call? Now if anyone in that division doesn't receive a call, it could be your SR is on watch and it is up to the RDCs on whether that SR gets to make-up the call~~
During this time in Boot Camp, please keep your cell phones charged, ready, and with you all the time---upstairs, downstairs, out in the backyard, in the bathroom, out to get the mail, of course, out on errands. If you are going to a loud restaurant or a movie theater, remember to put it on "vibrate" and put in your pocket or some place you can feel it. They can call during the week or weekend, so just be prepared: 6:00 am - 6:00 pm (Pacific/West Coast); 7:00 am - 7:00 pm (Mountain time); 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (Central/Great Lakes time); 9:00 am - 9:00 pm (Eastern Coast).
Oh my goodness a phone call, each day that passes (day 11 today) is the longest I have went with out seeing & talking to my son in 19 years so a phone call can't come soon enough missing him more than words can express! Have a great weekend! And thanks for the support here!
I received "the box" last week, but have yet to receive "the form letter". My son was able to make a quick call to me on Monday after having a reaction to a vaccine and he said his PIR date is 9/25, Div 946. Anybody else in that division get their letters yet? He said it went out Sunday night.
momRN: The box still could show up so don't give up hope! We will not know how many can attend as their guests until the number of divisions is determined for this PIR group. If 12 divisions or less, 4 guests....if 13 divisions or more, 3 guests. And just remember that mail is held from them for the first couple of weeks until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained so they won't receive your letters yet! They usually receive them on a Sunday....and can write for the first timed then (a personal letter). After that, they can write once a week, mailed out on Mondays, but will receive mail M-F.
I am losing hope on the box, called fedx and they have no package in route to my address or so they have said. She told me the only way to find it is to have the tracking number, which I do not have. I am more worried that the form letter has not arrived. The mail here is horrible, they have lost many items on me already and then they show up 6 months later..I am glad to get the info on here. If I do not have a form letter by next week I will contact the recruiter and I know he will help me. Thanks for all the help I so appreciate it.
Just to let you all know....ellen will be starting discussion groups on here for each division/brother division in the next couple of weeks. You can get to know each other in those smaller groups, but in the meantime, if you see someone join here who has someone in your division, friend request them and talk by private message where you can share more personal details like your SR's name.
momRN: The recruiter can't do much about the form letter. However, we can provide you with the info on here. Just not the gate pass password, but your SR wrote that in the form letter so your SR can also give it to you. People panic if they don't have the password for the gate pass, but actually if you take a shuttle from your hotel, no gate pass is needed. Or you can park off base at the train station which is right near the RTC front gate. The gate pass is only for cars driving on base.
diannep: Thank you for the information. I am planning on staying at the Navy Lodge, making reservations tonight, for the 18th. Almost made them for the 25th but N4M gave me the correct date so THANK YOU!!!
Glad you will be in the right group then, momRN! Be sure to book Navy Lodge in your SR's name if you do not have your own military ID.
Also, for those who may think Navy Lodge is on base, it is not. It is about a mile or so from RTC, in the housing area. It is not walkable to RTC....so plan to drive or take the shuttle that Navy Lodge offers.
Good morning all!! I'm happy to see this group open now. My daughter is on Ship 02 Div 946. I look forward to getting to know, and hopefully many, of you in the coming weeks! Prayers and blessings for each one of our new recruits and families!
Pleased to see the 9/25/15 PIR group too! My SR is Ship 12 Div 323 - anybody? We are the Indiana suburbs of Chicago too and would love to offer $ saving city tips for anyone planning a day trip while attending PIR.
Anita: When ellen adds the discussions above for the divisions, maybe you could post a discussion there about money-saving ideas during PIR weekend since you live in the area! That would be great!
Sure. Great idea. It's very simple to go through a couple hundred dollars and realize you have only parked the car for instance. I will watch the discussions posted.

The recruits don't receive their orders for school until sometime in the last couple weeks of BC. Most won't know until just a few days before PIR.
