When I called the Navy Lodge, they said it could be booked under the parents name, to just mention you're there for PIR. I also read on their website, If you use your SR's name, they have to be there as a sponsor when you check in. It makes me nervous either way.
Navygirlsmom, If you have booked under your name the reservation can be changed to your recruits name when you arrive, but you do have to tell them.
When you check in PIR weekend you do not have to have your Sailor with you, they understand that is not possible. You will have to give them your Sailors name, and rate when checking in. At some point you will probably need to take your Sailor to the front desk to "confirm",
If you are looking at the Navy Lodge website, it is going to give you rules and regulations for all hotels. The Navy Lodge in Great Lakes is the exception because the RTC is there.
Call the hotel in Great Lakes directly, not the reservation line, to ask questions you may have, and make your reservation. Don't make that reservation online or through their 800 number.
Feeling emotional, just had to say our goodbyes to our SR girlfriend who is off to her first year of college. It's only 3 hours away but still wasn't easy. Praying a phone call comes from our SR soon!! Missing my son more than words can say!
My son is also in div 946 ~finally got a call and a letter both on Monday and was so excited that he's playing the trumpet again! His sister can't wait to tell the band director(she plays too).I'm so proud of him and missing him so much our homelife is definitely changed. I hope he is befriending some of your sons and daughters he's always been and had such really great friends. Prayers for all.
That is so exciting that your SR son will be able to share his musical talents with the Navy during PIR!! The band director will be certainly pleased and glad your daughter is too!
Got my letter today - he says he's having fun! He already has his second class swim qualification. And he is a lead-on when marching turns and keeps pace. Jusr a paragraph but it makes me happy
jeepstersmom: Good news! You have already JOINED this group by posting here! Welcome! Please read the Pages info to the right/above on this page for lots of info!
Karie: Give it a little more time. If you do not receive it, contact RTC by email (should be in your form letter) and ask if there is a tracking number that you can contact FedEx with---you would need to provide your SR's full name, PIR date, ship/division numbers and your full name. Is there a chance that he donated/threw away everything he arrived with (they keep their wallets)? If so, maybe he had no need to send the box. They pay for the shipping themselves so some may not want to do that if their clothing is not worth returning. I would say that they return their phones, which they normally do, but saw someone post recently that their SR kept his phone there, but it was being held for him and would be returned to him after PIR. Never had heard that before....
It was so exciting to hear from my son yesterday. Hoping for that first phone call this weekend. He should have received a ton of mail by now. I know I was reading that I could send SASE for all of his mail to be returned. Does anyone know if he can just hand it over to me at PIR? Wouldn't even know how much postage to pay for to get it all returned.
Normally what people do, Sharon, is send a manilla envelope to mail back the letters. Yes, hard to determine postage for it, but more is better than less, I guess! Yes, he could give you the letters after PIR if that works out better, but many of them run out of storage space for the letters and that is why they want to send them home. They have very limited storage space there.
Got my phone call division 322. It was good to hear from him. He is thinking about changing courses now and took tests to do something completely different then he went in for. Not sure how that works but he was very upbeat and happy. Loves being head of laundry and has a great bunk mate! Couldn't ask for a better call.
diannep thanks for the info I will be sure to get one out there soon his mail is piling up!
I'm excited for all of you who got phones calls- hopefully I will hear from my SR soon- phone, letter, sky writing lol I don't care, I just miss him to bits.
Question- Do I need to send him a phone card? I suppose that's the only way he can call. Should have thought about that before hand! Can he purchase one there or should I post him one ASAP?
rootie: The SRs are issued a supply card (cost is taken from their pay) when they arrive. So many will use that to buy a phone card in the NEX. However, if you can, mail your SR one also....with at least 250 min on it...the pay phones eat up alot of minutes when connecting....if your SR doesn't need all of the minutes, he probably will lend it to another SR who ran out of minutes on his/her card.
Thank you both for the info. I was just telling a friend today how great it is to have found this sight, I've been gaining so much insight into what my husband and I are embarking on. I'm excited for our future in the Navy, and scared too. But knowledge is power, so many thanks. You rock!
