Good morning everyone. Beautiful 49 crisp degrees for our recruits this morning. Fall is moving into the area quickly. I suggest sweaters to match those PIR outfits. Last full week to write letters. What will I do? Writing has become a daily routine I really enjoy!
Anita: They are issued very nice trench coats that are lined for warmth (removable), used for rain too. If cold enough, they will march into PIR Hall with them on....or if raining. My son PIRed in Feb 2010 so they marched in with their "outerwear" on---cold!!!. They are then given the order to "remove outerwear" once in formation....and there are designated sailors to collect it.
Hello! First time in here. My son is on USS Hopper and will most likely be leaving the 26th very very early am. A school is in Meridian. We are able to stay over Thursday to Friday only. Is there anyway I can get him his phone, lap top and other items he is allowed? It breaks my heart but we can't afford to stay another night. I'm beside myself...he doesn't know that while he has been at GL I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. So I have been off work for 7 weeksI have to tell him and it's killing me to know he won't have his laptop right away. I know he will want to talk with me as much as possible. Is this something I can leave at the USO at whatever airport he is leaving from? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Oh my, Huntersmom. I'm so sorry about your health situation.....prayers for you in this journey!
The only other suggestion I can make is to see at the MeetandGreet or after PIR (probably better after PIR with your sailor there with you)....if there is one of his buddies there who will be flying out as well. If that buddy's family is there, they may be able to take these things out to your son. But I would definitely have your son involved in this selection process. Other than that....no, don't think the USO will hold items like that. If worse comes to worse, you can ship these to him at A School. My son happened to go to A School in Meridian as well, and he flew there with no phone/laptop. He called me a couple of days after arriving (either borrowed a cell or called from a pay phone with his phone card, don't remember as this was over 5 yrs ago) with his address and asked me to send his phone....I sent it priority mail and he had it 2 days later.
Hunterstorm my son is in div 321. My husband and I will be meeting our son at the airport to give him his things. If they are leaving from the same airport I would be happy to help you. So sorry about your situation you are in my prayers.
Hello Huntersmom,
I pray for God's total healing and restoration to your life. I speak life and declare that the supernatural healing power of Jesus Christ over take you. Remember that Jesus loves you and declare you are healed by His stripes. God bless
Talk to my baby girl today! Whoo hooo! Final PFA today and Battlestation on Tuesday! Pray for each you that your recruit will excel in all they do. I pray for confidence, boldness and supernatural strength to each recruit. Every area of weekness I declare strength. I thank you for keeping each and every family. Traveling grace and mercy to all. May God continue to do exceedingly abundantly all that you could as or think... Have a blessed day!
Thank you all for your beautiful prayers and helpful suggestions. I think I have found the solution. This is a wonderful community, bless you and all our sailors.
I know you are really excited, but BS dates aren't supposed to be posted here before it happens...could you please delete your post? (Hit the X in the upper right corner.)
It is the same principle as when your sailor is in Fleet, not supposed to advise of ships' movements before they happen -- you never know who is scanning any of the Navy/military or social media sites~~
That's what I thought, MNM. Just not a good thing for those to think they can do this...a grumpy RDC may not find it so funny that an order was disobeyed! We have also heard of SRs keeping their phones when they arrive at RTC....but we have also seen posts from ladies whose SRs' got caught with these....not a pretty picture!
Thanks for your input on this....but I still would caution everyone on here to not encourage their sailors to do this.
Good Morning and Thank you. I'm looking forward to that call. My son is in Div 320!!
I joined the site late so still learning my way around here.
To Huntersmom I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis my prayers are with you and your family. I am happy to see that you were able to work out the situation for getting your sons items to him.
My thoughts are with you.

Oh, and if they are not wearing their trenchcoats for PIR, you will see that they are carrying them, folded tightly!
