While I understand the whole thing about time and all, this system is pretty poor for the families who plan on attending graduation. It's so hard on us as I'm sure it is for the sailors as well, but we get such little information, and it makes us so anxious. I guess it's getting me ready for the lifestyle.
Thanks for the prays Unfortunately we canceled our plans Because the first monitor call said she would not be graduating that if she passed she would go to A school, Now at zero hour we find she might pass and graduate I just want to know if she is graduating it's been a dream for her for a long time
Hunter: Your last sentence said it all...yep, preparation for what is to come. The Navy stands ready at all times....and plans change at a moment's notice...and.although the Navy embraces the families of their sailors, everything else has to come first re: Navy readiness for all situations.....I guess they could cut off the time a SR can pass at a few days before PIR....so families are not left in the dark and would know to cancel/go ahead with PIR plans....but they want the SRs to have hope that they can graduate with their division so literally let them try until the last minute. I'm still hoping for a "happy ending" for you. Are you planning you to fly or drive?
Hunter: I just saw your post a couple of pages back....YAH! So glad that she will be at PIR (yes, she will pass BattleStations!). She may be in the balcony. (so look for her....get to PIR early!)...with the others who went with her.....in uniform but too tired to march....but she will be there! Some of them in the past have even managed to still march...just keep in mind that she probably will have been up since Thurs morning early...so she may be a little tired on PIR Day....but she will look awesome in that uniform! Congrats!
It is very possible auntie #1! If she was scheduled to graduate 9/25/15 and passes all of her test before then, she will graduate on time. They only miss PIR if they don't pass the test and do battle stations before then. If she has passed her test then she should be on battle stations with my wife. I actually love the thought of it, they'll make us proud auntie #1. We shall never give up on them, and keep praying and cheering them on.:)
Hey diannep! I'm so excited!:) yes she said she will be in the balcony. Any info regarding liberty time for people in her situation? As long as I get to give her a big hug I'll be content. But it would be nice to get her out of there for atleast a few hours. Any info you have on that would be nice. She said in the past she would have until 8pm (she already received her orders) any idea if that changes due to her situation?
Hunter: Liberty time is the same for her as for others. If flying out, she has the remainder of PIR Day...she would probably bus to the airport later that night to fly out on Sat....you can meet her at the airport. If staying in GL for A School, she will move over there shortly after PIR (takes a few hours) and you pick her up there. Then daytime Liberty through the weekend, back on base each night.
Sounds like you will have a sailor on Fri morning! Congrats!
Awesome! Well it seems I'll be able to see my beautiful sailor for awhile before giving her back. She is going to California for A school. I will be following her shortly after depending on the waiting list for housing. Will she be able to explain to me when I can pick her up after the ceremony? How does that work?
If your wife will be going to California for A school, seems she will probably fly out sometime on Saturday. You will need to meet her at either O'Hare or Midway at about 2:00 am to give her the cell phone, cell phone charger, laptop, a/c adapter, own comfy underwear (including the bras), maybe some favorite snacks.... She probably can't tell you which airport she will be flying out of till PIR since the Navy doesn't book the flight till Battlestations is passed. Bring a set of comfortable clothes for her to relax in the hotel room with you~~
If she's flying out to A school, she can just leave with you right when PIR ends at 10:30 am. You go down the bleachers and just get to her! (Please be careful about PDA and follow her lead...)
Hunter: Just to advise you that she may need to return to her ship right after PIR to check out before Liberty....so you will give her hugs and visit with her for about 10 min after PIR ends (they kick all out of the PIR Hall after that)....and then you may need to wait a little while for her. But then she is yours for the day until about 8 pm! Remember to get her back in plenty of time to walk back to her ship....she cannot be late! For those wondering, no one is allowed back to see the ships. There will be sailors standing guard to stop you from going too far.
Also a reminder to all....no outside piks are allowed to be taken on RTC. Only allowed inside PIR Hall. Don't forget this as it is heavily enforced! They will take your phone/camera and delete the piks.
Safe travel to all today....enjoy the MeetandGreet tonight, be early for PIR tomorrow.
Driving hint for those driving to PIR: Stay to the left on Buckley....car line to RTC on your right. Bypass RTC and turn around right past there in the train parking lot...head back to RTC from the opposite direction....easy left turn onto RTC, no wait! There is no waiting in the car line if you take a shuttle from your hotel either. Sign up for that at Sarge's MeetandGreet or at your hotel front desk when you check in.
Probably not auntie #1, I wasn't supposed to get a call either but I bugged mr. Walsh enough that they gave my wife a call. All I can say is email him and ask for her status. He'll probably say something like "if she hasn't called she hasn't passed" but explain to him that you know she could pass by Friday morning and you would never get a call. And you might just get one.
Has anyone ever had experience with their sailor calling you and the call be scripted and false information? I got a letter from my wife today(she wrote this past weekend) stating the call I got from her last Sunday was untrue and scripted for her to say. The facts are someone got her hurt on the track and she and 15 others were forced off the track and automatically failed. They "asmo'd" her and the others. Even told them that they would not get anymore calls(even though my wife did) I'm just really confused as to why they would do this. Anyway the letter was all good news besides that, I will be making the trip to Great Lakes and my wife will be a sailor.
I don't know if it's good or bad that gave out this information, just thought it was strange. Hoping I'm not starting anything, just curious if anyone has went through this before, or heard of this.
My call from my niece was scripted to She said not to come for graduation because even if she passed she would be going to A school I haven't received anything about what you said your wife said I'm sure that if that happened the ones involved would be punished
Hunter: PDA=Public Display of Affection.....not allowed outside of PIR Hall. You may take the crook of her left arm to hold as you walk....but she must have her right arm free to salute when needed. So get your hugs in PIR Hall and follow her lead when you walk out onto the base!
Auntie #1: I don't understand that at all. Why would they want us to lose hope:( I never gave up on her though. Your niece has got this, she will graduate tomorrow alongside my wife and the rest of their brothers and sisters. I can feel it. Tomorrow will be a great day. I'll be leaving soon.
I became her guardian after her parents passed away her dad was a sailor That's why this means so much to her I am more,than just Auntie Mary to her now
Awwww......I'm am so very sorry, Auntie#1......so glad that you were there for her! God Bless Her....I hope she feels the presence of her parents as she is trying so hard!
Auntie#1: If she is in BattleStations tonight, she will be at PIR tomorrow. Not sure why she was told that she would go straight to A School. That only happens once they mix their PIR date. I know you cancelled your plans, but sure hope you get a wonderful phone call from her tomorrow!
Thank you for all your encouraging words! You have helped so many of us through this difficult time Soon I will also be able to rejoice with all the other proud parents of their Sailor's Hopeing for that call tomorrow any idea what time it would be?
The I'm a Sailor calls can start as early as 2pm Central and go for a few hours. With 4 divisions going through tonight, it will take a while for all to call. Hope you are one who gets that call!
Auntie#1: However, since she would be doing this as an "extra", finishing on her PIR Day....maybe they would let her call earlier? Just not sure since they don't finish the drill until the morning and then she would have to be ready for PIR. Just keep that phone close all day!
Wow! So sorry auntie#1, I will make sure I do what I can to get that message to her. Your niece sounds like an amazing young lady, how proud you must be.
Happy PIR Day! I hope all have a wonderful day with your new sailors! I will post the link to the Livestream in a minute....in case you want to pass along to family/friends who couldn't come to PIR. Congrats to your sailors!
Just a reminder to be sure to get the airport that your new sailor will be flying out of if you plan to meet your sailor at the airport. They all know their travel plans by now. They fly from Midway and OHare. Hope you enjoyed PIR!
I"m so sorry, Auntie#1. That would mean she hasn't passed yet. Have you joined the FIT group yet? I will post the link here in a moment. Join there since there are others on that group with SRs trying to pass as yours is. She'll get it done! Keep posting here and let everyone know how she is doing! Hopefully you will hear from her soon!

Hello Friends~~
"He gives strength to the weary and increases
the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired
and weary, and the young stumble and fall;
But those who hope in the Lord will renew
their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk
and not be faint."
