Thanks again everyone for the prayers and well wishes. It means so much. You have made this journey so much more meaningful. I was able to stay strong daily because of all of you.
  • diannep

Happy PIR Day!  Enjoy this very special day!

  • Amazing4

Ok... so I am seated... nerves are jumping... can someone please remind me what the yellow/red cords mean and what is different about the 800/900 divisions?
  • My Sailor daughter

Thank you diannep. Congratulations Sailors!! Waiting on your arrival.
  • ellen0502

And in to the drill hall the arrive!!! Congratulations everyone! Bravo Zulu Sailors!!!

  • diannep

Amazing: 800 divisions are Special Operations (they don't perform)

900 divisions are the performing divisions, either on the Hall floor or behind the scenes.

  • diannep

Amazing:  You will be able to find out the meaning of the cords from your new sailor in just a few minutes!  I believe the red cords are for the RDCs though!

  • nlover4real

I really had a blast yesterday at PIR. Everything was wonderful. I had the pleasure of meeting Sarge today he was my ride to the airport. He was so nice and his company was alot cheaper and nicer than the cab we took from the airport. American taxi tried to over charge us when we got to our destination and was rude. I think the veteran moms should let everyone know that they should go with Sarge and his company very nice man.
  • diannep

Thanks, nlover4real.  We do recommend Sarge for those who will not rent a car.  Sorry you didn't know about him before you took the cab!   But glad you found him for your return ride!

  • diannep

Congrats to your new sailors!  I hope all have enjoyed visiting with them!

Question:  For those of you who went to Sarge's MeetandGreet....did he suggest a driving hint for PIR.....staying to the left on Buckley headed to RTC, bypassing RTC, and turning around near the train station, heading back from the opposite direction, with a no-wait left turn onto RTC?  If so, did any of you try it and did it work?  I ask because we have been passing along this hint for a very long time now, have received great feedback from it, and then recently were told by a family that they were "waved off" by the RTC road personnel when they approached from this opposite side and told to go all the way back down Buckley, turn around, and come in through the car line.  I reported this to RTC and was told that they have been getting some complaints about RTC road personnel not being very cooperative, seeming to be quite frustrated---they are asking that any families who had an experience with any RTC personnel who were uncooperative and not helpful...please report it to RTC....anonymously if you want to....they just want to know about your experience.

I just want to see if anyone used this driving hint and if so, did it work?  RTC did not say it was not allowed.  After all, it is possible that some may be approaching from this opposite direction anyway due to where they are staying.

Any feedback would be appreciated!  Also, any feedback on other info we passed on to you that was "right on" or "incorrect" would be greatly appreciated.  We want to pass on accurate info to the future PIR groups.

    Thanks!  And....Good Morning!

  • TheRocksmom

Good morning, first let me say Awesome to the tenth power PIR! I never been so proud or impressed. Ever by a group! ,waiting to leave to get son for last day, going to not think about tonight. Diannep, did not take the hint,  drove from Navy Lodge, surprisely, no real issues, got right in parking was in the parking garage and when exited led right to graduation hall. now of course u know I left at 6am, was in bleacher by 7, but then 2 hour wait, they have beverages and snacks, and some sweatshirts, 370 was sold out , but got web address to order so if someone wants to order I will post later, diannep they did have everyone entering from same direction all I saw was 1 line, there are ALOT of signs where no left turns. Sorry some had trouble, Sarge's meet and greet was so much fun! I won basket, food great going leave his number for son, if you not staying at Navy Lodge I would definitely take shuttle, best way to go. Off to get my Sailor, Did I say all u Admi\moderators, love you, would have never made it this far without u!  Check back later!

  • nlover4real

Can someone please tell me the name of the facebook page for RTC I want to see if they put up pictures of the ceremony
  • Albania97

PIR was so amazing and I thought we would pop our buttons because we were so proud. Easy to tell they do it every week. Iused my wheelchair because of a lot of walking. Everyone was very kind and respectful. We sat in one of the Wheelchair sections on the floor, but still saw our sailor easily.
We ended staying at the Red Carpet dump. It was gross and the kid at the front desk was a jerk. Our daughter flew into O'Hare at 7 AM from Baltimore and got to the Dump Inn at 3 PM and he would not let her into our room knowing we would not be there until 11PM. So she waited at the McDonqlds. The McD people were very gracious as were the folks at Flanagans. On all material for PIR weekend Red Carpet Inn Dump needs to removed completely. They know theyll make money evry weekend so figure they can be jerks. Besides that it was a wonderful time with our Sailor an so good to see him and his siter. This sight has been a wealth of information

We stayed in the Days Inn we didn't have any problems everyone was nice the free breakfast was good too I would recommend that to anyone. I really enjoyed spending time with my SR she is now at A school in Texas getting settled in I do appreciate all the advice given to me on this site it was very helpful. Thanks moms!
  • Wildernessnut

  • Tierney'smom

We stayed at the Days Inn since no room at Navy Lodge. Location is great, very close to base which made it easy to get her since she stayed in Great Lakes for A school (5 minutes away). They just painted Days Inn so it was for the most part clean. Front desk was very friendly and they offered a continental breakfast which was ok. They do offer a shuttle to PIR but we didn't use it. Only problem we had was toilet didn't work right. Maintenance was called but never showed. If your on a budget not a bad place to stay.

    Blessed Sunday!

"Then He said to His disciples, 'The harvest

is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the

Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out

workers into His harvest field.' "

  • CatMom509

Love reading about all your wonderful PIR experiences!!

  • diannep

Thanks for all of the responses, ladies.  mimi, glad you were able to use the driving hint without an issue.  TheRocksMom....maybe mimi and hubby were able to use the hint since they followed a shuttle?  Not sure, but we are not passing out the driving hint info anymore until we know it is still being allowed.  But glad it worked for mimi and family and that others got in the regular way without an issue.

Thanks again for sharing info!  By the way, on the comment about the recruiters passing along this site to their recruits for the families during Bootcamp, some do, some do not.  My son's did not....although he COULD have told my son and he didn't tell me. My son signed up in another city where he was living at the time....so I never met his recruiter.  But I know that some pass out the info.  I happened to find this site by googling!  Sure was glad I did when my son was up there!

Thank you, ladies, for the helpful information.

Navy Lodge was a very nice place to stay.

    Everyone was so nice...

PIR was great in spite of the fact that I had to sit near my ex. I'm so proud of my baby girl!

She left for San Antonio for A school Saturday afternoon and I miss her, but at least we can call and text now.

    Take care, Ladies. Thanks again!

  • KYNavyMomma

Just got home last night... pulled an all nighter Friday and met my new Sailor at the airport and waited until he flew off to Goose Creek. Was exhausted Saturday, but wouldn't have missed those last few hours with him ! We spent Saturday with my Sailor who is in A school there at Great Lakes. Awesome weekend, but it flew by too quickly...seems like a blur now. Can't wait to hear how everyone's new Sailors are doing. I loved meeting some of you Mommas at the Meet & Greet! That was awesome. I truly feel like I have made some lifelong connections with my fellow Navy Moms :) Happy for all of our new Sailors and very excited- proud beyond words!!

  • sixpark

Thanks so much Rocksmom. I appreciate the information. I didn't go the the cart for food so I didn't know they had them.

  • ellen0502

nlover4real, There are several groups, but I can't narrow it down to an A School since you don't know the rating. Here are a couple links for you.

Hi Everyone hope you are all doing well and your sailors as well!!

  • SMW729

Hey there, What's everyone's sailor doing now.  Mine is currently in Norfolk, yay, which means he is only 1 1/2 hours away so I get to see him pretty much every weekend.  He should be done there in May and then it's off to somewhere far away.  Needless to say I am enjoying my time with him now because when he leaves I don't know when I will see him next.

  • John'sMom

Hi everyone, my son is out at sea right now no idea where he is or when he is returning.  He is stationed in Washington State which is a long way from home in NY.  This is his first deployment on he new home so will not find anything out till he returns.
