I am lucky he has never been the one to always have to have a girl. Unlike his brother who doesn't like to be alone. I think he is just trying to find the right one. And it doesn't take long for him to decide. His best friend is a girl he tried to be BF with but they thought it would be better to be good friends. She joined the Army. She was suppose to join the Navy but after we moved her friend helped her choose the Army. She is getting stationed up out of New York. Big change for her being from Hawaii.
  • navymom3

CT mom- My son is currently 2nd in his class and planning on being 1st. So I hope he gets what he wants. We only will have to wait and see. The guy that is 1st wants washington so we are good there. He said no one in his class wants where he wants to go. Several want San Diego.
  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

My son was expecting to fill out a dream sheet but never happened. They just got orders given to them.
  • navymom3

Rorysmom- where did he get for his orders?

  • navymom3

Sandy- Yep fort drum. I told her she couldn't get any farther from Hawaii than there.
  • navymom3

She does not even have her drivers license yet. So I am sure she will need it. LOL
  • Craig

I know I've said this 1000's times, and you oldies will get tired of it, but....

For you newbies, you need to see the above item in the discussion area called

What is a CAC card reader? Why is it so important?

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ctratemoms/forum/topics/what-is-a-...

It will give your sailors an idea on what billets (places) they can go when they fill out their dream sheet. To me, I think it's really important.

navymom & sandy - What is the Fort Drum talk about? Just curious because my wife flies there in about 2 weeks for a business trip.

Navymom4J - I didn't realise you were from Denver. I actually work at Buckley. We need to get the families together and go to a resturant.... Who could pass up Casa Bonita?
  • navymom3

Craig- My sons best friend joined the Army instead of the Navy right after we moved from Hawaii. She got her orders a few weeks ago and it is Ft Drum. We had been talking about our sons having or not having  GF at home to worry about while traveling with the Navy.
  • Craig

rorys - Yokosuka is a fun place to be stationed.  I really don't know much about the USS Fitzgerald, except it was exposed to the radiation when the reactor in Fukushima Japan blew up.  They had to do a complete wash down.  Luckly, ship are designed for that so when you read about that part, it is nothing to worry about.   Unlike all of our helocopters that were used, everyone of them have now been destroyed.  Talking about alot of money...Wow!
  • Craig

navymom - I have told my nephew about not to have a GF while in "A" and "C" school, but he doesn't listen. My logic to him was "Why buy a horse, when there is riding stables all over the world"?

Hey, I'm a guy... What else could I say to him?
  • NavyMom4J

Craig- LOL you are too funny. Yeah he had a girlfriend before he joined and what can I say-???  At some point they don't listen to Mom anymore. HA HA . If he does get Denver - he would be at Buckley- is it a pretty good place for his first tour?  And yes- it would be great to get together for dinner - would be very cool to do that when my son is home so he can talk to you. My husband (his Dad) died going on almost 4 years ago so it would be good for him to have someone like you to talk with!
  • NavyMom4J

HA HA - Cosa Bonita- I used to work there one summer to make money for college! It is almost the same today as it was all those years ago!
  • navymom3

Craig that is exactly what we have told him. Wish his brother would have listened when he joined. He got married while in A school and then got divorced a couple years later when he started having to go out on ships. And it was only a 30 day tour. So much for sticking by him through thick and thin. LOL He is careful now. wish he had been then.
  • Craig

NavyMom4J - Here's what you do.  Ask him when then next time he will be home.  Then have him contact his Special Security Office (SSO) and have his tickets (clearance) passed here.  I can give him the entire tour of the Cryptologic facilities here.

Next time you talk to him, ask him if he has gotten a SID yet, and what it is. I'll talk to him on the high side (classified side) and tell him the process and the person he needs to contact.

  • Craig

Beleive it or not, we had a get together for one of my website last week, and we went there.  They wanted to go once they heard there sailors talking about the South Park episode about Casa Bonita.

     http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s07e11-casa-bonita

  • NavyMom4J

    Craig- What is SID mean?

Sorry- my lack of knowledge on Navy acronyms. He has a temporary Security ID for the training for A school right now, but not sure if it is his actual one yet.

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

My son joined the Navy to get out of FL, but he got sent to P'cola for school...

He'll get out in the world soon enough.

Craig, I already sent him a card reader - he loves it.

He's always had a girl on his arm, but hopefully he will refrain for now...  I've got no control at this point.  Shoot me.

  • navymom3

I love it here in Florida. We are up by Jacksonville.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

I'm in Tampa Bay.  Florida is great but my son hates the sun and sand...
  • navymom3

Our you going to the packing party on saturday for the molly adopt a sailor group there. I was told there is one in Tampa this sat. And we are having one in Jville in Sept.
  • mumziepooh

Son has been number one or two in his class since the beginning - he put Japan Japan and Japan as his top 3 choices.  Where is he going?  Washington State - DIRSUP.  It is still Pac fleet so he is happy.  Needs of the Navy.....

  • navymom3

Munzie- Sorry he didnt get Japan. Washington state is beautiful. Just lots of rain.
  • Craig

Mumzie - If he's going to DIRSUP Washington, then he will either be in the Global Signal Analyst Center (GSAC), or he will be in the Global Maritime Air Center (GMAC).  Either one is great from what I have heard.

That all I can tell you, or I'd have to kill you....

  • Craig

Navymom4J - Actually, I'm not sure what SID stands for, but what it is, is like a email address on the high side.  You just type the name in and it goes.  Only people with SBI's have a SID.

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Navymom3 - there's a packing party in Largo, FL tomorrow.  I'm going to try to go, but I have a friend with a sick horse that I might need to go help out instead.

(Craig - I can almost see your wheels turning on that comment...)

  • glassdog

Hi y'all!  It's been a few days since I was able to get to the web site, and boy, a lot of discussions have been going on! Enjoyed all of them!

My sailor managed to get his first choice of Hawaii.  We have been so thrilled that my hubby and I are going to sell the house so we can move into a townhouse.  Less money to spend on up keep and hopefully more money to go to Hawaii on!

If you Colorado CT parents get together we would be interested.  It would be great to meet other parents whose sailors are in Cryptology.  Our son is a will be a CTR hopefully next Friday!

  • NavyMom4J

Well I asked my son and he does not have SID yet- he said he also has not filled out the Dream sheet - so maybe he does after he graduates A school.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

    Oh Glassdog - Hawaii - that's wonderful!!!

I love Colorado and need to get back there with my sister.  Last July we did a bike ride from Vail Pass down to Frisco - twice in one day (we cheat:  shuttle up to the top and coast all the way down).  It's a TON of fun.  We want to get back there to do it again and go to a concert at Red Rocks.  I'd love to meet up with CT family in CO next time we go.

As it turns out, I can go to the packing party tomorrow and then head over to my friend's place to help give her horse a massage (:->).  Should be a fun day!

NavyMom4J:  I guess it is typical hurry up and wait.  I hear dream sheets really don't mean much - you go where the Navy needs you.

  • momKdiv938-daughterK

My daughter's PRI 08/05/2011, is CTI, Monterey, CA, div938, we are from Colorado
  • navymom3

    Welcome Momkship.
  • NavyMom4J

Paula- yes I am beginning to see from this thread that the dream sheet nor the scores matter as much as where Navy wants them or needs them. But I think Navy tries to match it up as best they can...

Any time anyone of you wants to come to Colorado- I am willing to meet you ! Could be my Son won't end up in Denver after all- who knows!

  • Craig

momK - What part are you from?  We are from Centennial (South Aurora).

Like Dee says, join the CTI group too.  They are the specialist with the languange stuff...

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/cti

For all newbies that are in the CTN field, I highly recommend joining the CTN group.  They are the specialist with the Networks stuff....

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

    Welcome MomK !
  • mumziepooh

CRAIG - GMAC is what I asked you about, you silly boy - that is what he got - Washington, DIRSUP, GMAC.  Silly Silly Craig.......  And he is really happy - my only point was that being number one or two doesn't really guarantee that you will get your first or second or third choice!  LOL - but you know what, I think everything happens for a reason and he will be happy there - cold and wet for a Texan, but happy!

  • Karen1913 (Ship 10, Div 336)

My son is a CTR set to graduate August 12.  He is scheduled to go to San Angelo Texas or C School in September and then has orders (I believe they are verbal) for 2 years shore duty in Maryland.  Anyone know where in San Angelo and anything about Maryland?  We are Arizona desert rats and don't know much about the East Coast.  Any information would be appreciated.
  • Craig

mumzie - I was actually getting you confused with another person (probably you) that posted the same question.  Are you momofthree5a too?

    I'm 93 Corvette over there.,,,,

    http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/297192721/m/407005267...

Karen - If he's going to San Angelo, then he's going to Goodfellow Air Force Base.  It use to be a really large CTI base, now it's gotten really small.  But all the CT rating use to go there.   I went there for "C" school as a CTM.

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Karen. My. Son who just took his CTR final yesterday and did excellent is going to ft Meade Aug 14 there is a ft Meade group with Information about the area its very nice close to Baltimore Washington Philadelphia and new York city
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Going to Colorado springs in October for a work conference. Pretty excited I've never been that far west before
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

OMG - Stay a couple of days extra if you can.  Colorado is awesome - go to Red Rocks Ampitheater (sp?)  in/near Golden if you can - just to walk around, but a concert is even better!  Go see the mountains of the Front Range if you can.
  • NavyMom4J

Angie- Colorado Springs is a great place to visit- It is about 1 1/2 south of Denver (where I live) You want to visit Garden of the God's if you can (trails in natural red rock formations) and take the Pikes Peak tram to the top of the mountain! Both great things to do while there. enjoy!!
  • NavyMom4J

Angie- or go for a nice hike just west of town in the foothills to a place called 7 Falls. Just west of town in the foothills.
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Angie, I totally agree with Navymom.  There are some beautiful sights in Colorado Springs.  We've been to 7 Falls, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, the Air Force Academy and the zoo, which is on a mountainside and it's a beautiful zoo.

My son just started his CTT school 2 weeks ago and he is loving his classes.  He says he's slated for graduation from A school on Sept. 23.  Is that usually a firm date, or can they be set back?  Right now his class average is a 90%.  I'm trying to book a flight down to Pensacola when he does graduate, but not sure how long I should wait to do that.

  • glassdog

    Welcome MomK!

Paula I like your thinking on the bike ride!  That would be the way I would want to do it.  Let me know when you are heading for Colorado.  I would love to meet other CT families.

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

I'm going on a Mediterranean cruise in October, so I won't be heading back to CO until at least a year from now :-/p>

(unless I suddenly find myself independently wealthy... if that happens, I'll move to CO!)

What happens to the 10% that don't graduate?

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Paula, I meant to say that my son's grade average was 90%.  I hope I didn't confuse you.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Betsy, I am easily confused so don't apologize.  90%!  That's great!
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Glassdog - that bike ride down from Vail Pass to Frisco is super fun.  The first time we went to CO in 2009, we took a week to make a big circle (I-70 west then North across the Continental Divide and back down the Front Range).  If anyone wants to hear about the Pet Cemetery we found in Hot Sulfur Springs above the canyon, let me know (photo attached).  We loved it so much, we went back a year later for a long weekend to do the bike ride again and attend a concert at Red Rocks (ABBA).

  • CRF230dad

Craig what happened to your original post on Legal Residency on page 84? It disappeared, did you remove it? Do older posts get pushed down to different pages as new posts come in? Thank you so much for your detailed response to my question. I think this topic and other specific issues which could benefit sailors should have their own page or discussion forum heading at the top of group pages to make them more easily searchable and quicker to find.
  • navymom3

CRFdad he did put it up above in this discussion.
