CRF230dad - Just curious, are you blonde? Wait you're a guys, so I can't say that.  So you must be bald.  Do you have "Caucasian" written on your drivers license under "hair color"?   j/k

Remember, as new post are added, all the other stuff gets moved more and more down, what happend to be page 84 a week ago, is now page 97.  Next week it will be page 112....  I just keeps moving.

So, like I said right now it's page 97... Just look for my post by date & time... I posted it March 24th @ 10:48pm.  And like navymom said, I also put it in the discussion area above.

I never delete stuff.  I say what I say, and move on.  So if you ever seen a post by me, it will always be out there (somewhere).  The only way my posts get deleted is by moderators or admins, which has happened quite a bit... I'm a sailor, what can I say?

    You forgot your smiley.... ~ha

Paula I seem to remember at some point in my Colorado life either hearing or seeing the pet cemetery.  My parents used to take me all over Colorado when I was growing up and I know we stopped at many cemeteries!  They are very interesting places sometimes.  Historically I mean!  That is a beautiful area.

Do you guys know what Katharine Lee Bate is famous for?

At the summit of Pikes Peak, Colorado,  Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to pen the lines to her most famous poem, "America the Beautiful." She was overwhelmed by the sights of vast, open skies, planted fields, and the majestic Rocky Mountains.

Craig - wonderful!  I actually did know that - you have some great trivia that you post - I really enjoy it!

  • Craig

Actually I love trivia....  Especially Navy stuff...

Being stuck on a ship for 8 months deployments, we use to play trivia games just to pass the time. Here's one trivia question that your kids can make alot of money on by winning bets.

So... Let have a little test for you guys....

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

You are the armchair Commanding Officer

    The Question:
A young E3 Sailor is sitting on a mid watch at the quarterdeck aboard the USS Nimitz, bored as heck, playing with an Amulet (an object worn, especially around the neck, as a charm against evil or injury) that he has around his neck. In comes enters Navy Lieutenant (O3). He asks the Sailor "How the watch is going?" The Sailor says "Great!"

The Lieutenant notices the Amulet and a small plastic bag suddenly falls from it. The Lieutenant asks “What’s that?”. Nervously, the young Sailor says "Nothing" as he quickly places the bag back into the Amulet.

The Lieutenant again ask “WHAT WAS THAT?” to which the smart @ss Sailor says “That sir, is what the DEA calls a Schedule 1 hallucinogen (a schedule 1 is classed as Ecstasy, PCP, Angel Dust, LSD…etc) and it’s on the DEA Controlled Substance Act (CSA)”. Thinking that the E3 was kidding the Lieutenant asks “And what do you plan on doing with that?” The Sailor replies “I'm going to smoke it with my wife this Saturday!… I have 5 more grams at my apartment off-base!" When the Lieutenant finally realizes that the young Sailor is not kidding, he ask if that was authorized by medical, the kid says "No, I bought it off the streets". The Lt. quickly calls the Master-at-Arms and has the E3 arrested.

In the brig, they read the Sailor his rights, and ask him the E3 wishes to say anything. The Sailor refuses.
They refer the young Sailor to Captain’s Mast. The Captain reviews the young Sailor’s service record. And notices that the young Sailor already had a drug waiver issued by MEPS for using this same drug.
Of the below options, what do you think a good Commanding Officer (CO) will do to this E3?

    1. Release the young Sailor with an apology, and then counsel the Lieutenant for wasting yout (CO's) time.
2, Charge the Sailor with possession of drugs, with the intent to use. Put him on restriction, and allow him to remain on active duty.
3, Charge the Sailor with possession of drugs, with the intent to use. Discharge him, with an “Other than Honorable discharge”.
    4. Charge the Sailor with possession of drug, with the intent to use. Give him 45 days Restriction, 60 day extra duty and ½ months pay for 2 months, and Confinement on Bread and water for 3 days, then Discharge him, with an “Other than Honorable discharge.

    Answer:
    1. Release the young Sailor with an apology, and then counsel the Lieutenant for wasting the CO's time.
Most people don't realize that the Navy accepts drug uses for non-medical reasons from Sailors that are Native American. Although the drug Peyote is considered a Schedule 1 hallucinogen (a schedule 1 is classed as Ecstasy, PCP, Angel Dust, LSD..ect), it is allowed for religious reasons.
    (a) NAVCRUITDIST COs must personally interview Native American applicants who have used Peyote. Applicants will be required to provide a tribal letter certifying that Peyote is a traditional sacrament of the tribe’s religious belief system. Then documented on form DD-1966
    (b) Peyote for religious purposes, as stated above, is not to be documented on any other enlistment document.
    (c) The Director of Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program will review, on a case-by-case basis, the assignment to, denial of, or removal from the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program of those Native American service members who practice the sacramental use of Peyote, when the decision was based solely of the Native American’s sacramental use of Peyote. This provision applies to personnel enlisted in or assigned to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
    (2) Non-Religious Use. A drug waiver is required if it is determined that Peyote was used for other than religious reasons.
    (3) Native Americans who use Peyote for religious reasons must be briefed on Department of Defense policies regarding Peyote use while on active duty.
    (a) Peyote shall not be used on duty or within 24 hours before scheduled military drill.
    (b) Peyote may be possessed in amulet form, not for ingestion, and such amulet may be worn as an item of religious apparel subject to Service uniform regulations. Otherwise, Peyote shall not be used, possessed, distributed, or introduced aboard military vehicles, vessels, aircraft, or (except when permitted by the installation commander) on military installations.
    (c) A Service member who has used Peyote shall promptly notify their commanding officer upon return to duty after such use. The Navy Department requires pre-use notification from service members, when it is in the interest of military readiness or safety, to notify commanding officers of the member’s intent to use Peyote. Upon notification of use, or intended use, of Peyote, the member’s commanding officer shall verify the member is an enrolled member of a Native American tribe having Peyote as a religious sacrament, as defined by 42 U.S. C 1996a(c)(2).
    e. Hallucinogenic drug use effect on classification. Applicants shall not be classified into ratings or enlistment programs that require recruits to enter the Personal Reliability Program (PRP) if they have ever used any type of hallucinogenic (including Peyote).
There are no exceptions to this policy.

    Here is the offical rule.
    020903.  ENLISTMENT ELIGIBILITY (Chapter 2, Section 9, Page 5).

Kind of makes you feel good that someone could be still high while working next to your sailor huh?  Oh well, I guess the 0% tolerance is actually .0001%

So yes, the Navy does allow recreation drug use (ie in the Navy you only have 2 types, Medical, or recreation drug use).

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

    DLPT?
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Craig, the word "Amulet" in your scenario caught my attention.

What is DLPT?  It is not recognized by the Navy Speak translator here.

Supportive vibes are being transmitted from FL to your daughter.

  • Paula (was Capricorna)

    Ooooo.  DLPT - That's a biggie.

Janet R., your daughter is definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

Anything with PT in it can't be good... :->

Please report back to let us know how it goes for her.

  • CTmomof3

    Craig,

Is this the CAC reader you are referring to? Just want to make sure.

Janet R:  Strong and confident is an excellent frame of mind to have going into a big test.  She's in my thoughts.  Keep us posted (so I'll know when to stop praying :->).
  • Craig

CTmom - I think that is the same one.  Here is the one I recommend.  It's total "Plug-n-Play".

Like I said in the above discussion area, the NEX models suck.  They require software that doesn't come with the unit.

Janet - You have one more prayer coming your daughters way....
  • mumziepooh

janet - praying!  I barely speak English.........can't imagine!

Idahojeep-I am also from Idaho.  I grew up in Cd'A.  I miss it so much and we will retire back to that area.  Congrats on your boys coming home soon.  Where are they stationed?
  • Craig

michemom - I was at Goodfellow, but that was years ago.  I haven't heard of people going there in a long time.  However, this link may help you...

JapanMom my sons are going to Yokosuka once they leave here. I am in Post Falls and we love it here. Where are you now?
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Hello everyone, I was on here about 2 months ago, but with a cross country move and visit to see my sailor in Pensacola, I haven't had too much of a chance to keep up.  I'm hoping to be on here regularly from now on.

I do have a question though.  My son is currently in CTT classes.  It's been a challenge for them to start his security clearance process because I was living in a hotel (following the settlement on our house, I stayed in NM until my daughter graduated from college in May), then I moved back to Maryland and my husband jand I were living in a hotel for a month and then moved into an apartment at the end of June. Hopefully we will only stay here for a few months and then will search for a house again.  Ugh, I seriously can't wait until we find a house and are settled again!  My husband was living in Maryland for a year and a half before I came out here, so at least we are finally together again.  Oh well, sorry for the vent.  :)

I got a call about a month ago from a special investigator and they came to interview me about a week later.  My interview took almost an hour and a half, but most of the time he was telling me about his family too, so I guess I was easy to talk too. lol  My son has said that he only knows of 2 other people who have been interviewed so far.  How many people do they usually interview?  They have not called my husband or any of my son's 4 siblings, aunts, uncles, close teachers, etc. .  The only people that we are sure that have been interviewed have been my best friend, my sailor's best friend and me.   My son put quite a few names from NM, WV and MD, which are the places that he has lived.  How long does the entire process for security clearance usually take?  Just wondering.  He started his A school classes about 3 weeks ago.

Also, do many parents go down to Pensacola for the A school graduation?  I know that it's not anywhere near as elaborate as PIR, but I would love to share that moment with my son too.

  • Craig

Betsy - Everyone always misses this, but up in the discussion area (above) is a item call "Security Clearance Process".  Click on that, and read the entire posts and comments.  That will answer your questions.

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ctratemoms/forum/topics/security-c...

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Thank you for your answer, Craig, but I actually I didn't miss that at all.  I posted a question on the discussion on July 16 and I guess you missed that.  lol  I did read the entire thing months ago.  They started the process with my son in early April and it's already been almost 4 months.   He did say that they did an initial screening which did allow him to start his classes, so that's good, I guess.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Tomorrow is my son's graduation from A school as a CTRSN   He will arrive home a little after midnite Saturday am    We are all so very excited!  Unfortunately Ive been out of town for an emergency all week so freaking out a bit because I had this wonderful plan to clean a little bit each evening, do the prep for the BBQ on sunday etc....so now I guess I'll just have to hustle when I get home on Friday    A bunch of us are planning on meeting him at the airport  and if you remember a video I posted a while back involving watermelons...well we plan to do our own little drum circle of watermelons when he walks through the airport gates  :)
  • Craig

Betsy - So are you saying they didn't go to his school?  This is really unusual.  They always go to the schools....

Angie - You know you can go to the airport gate and watch him fly off, correct?  You should freak him out and be there...

    Accommodations For U.S. Military Personnel

    Military Family Member Gate Passes

Family members who want to accompany a military service member being deployed to the boarding gate or greet them returning from deployment at the arrival gate may receive passes to enter the secure area of the airport.

Interested military family members should contact their air carrier representative at the departure/arrival airport for proper local procedures.

Congrats Angie. You need to record that for sure! My son graduated a CTR few weeks ago with one of the other guys in that video.lol  They are in C school together. Our sons probably know each other. Craig wasn't joking about the CT community being small. Enjoy your sailor.
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Angie, that's so exciting.  Congrats to your son.  How long will you have him home?

Craig, if they went to the school, he hasn't heard yet.  He did list a few teachers that he is still in touch with also.

  • idahojeep

sunshine and angie ~ my twins graduated A school a couple weeks ago and are in C school now for CTR. There are only 8 in their class so only 6 other guys besides them. Do yours know mine?
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Angie (Dan'sMom) Congrats on your son's graduation!  About what date did you post the watermelon video?

Idahojeep - that's very cool about having twins in C school!!!  Way to raise 'em Mom!

  • sunshine73

They probably do. My son is in his 2nd week of C school but he said everyone is at different levels.  I will ask him this afternoon if he knows any twins:) Mumziepooh's son and my son are roommates. Michemom's daughter and my son were at BC together, Corry together, and will be in Hawaii together. I love that we have N4Ms to bring us all together.
  • sunshine73

craig~ when you get time will you look up at the discussion that I posted about duty stations. I know you have talked a lot about it but it seems that everyone I know is not getting reimbursed or is having to pay extreme fees to come home. Help, please.

  • idahojeep

sunshine ~ after our posts yesterday I called one of my sons and he said it is taken care of and they did not have to pay any change fees. But he had to get off the phone to go back to class so I did not get details yet.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

So had something very interesting happen this week. I posted earlier that my CTT received orders to Yokosuka last Thursday. He was told he would get there & then start the process to bring his future wife over. On Tuesday he was told that his wife would not be able to join him on his first tour at all overseas no matter if they married or not. Of course there was much sadness &much emotion. They have been together over 4 1/2 yes and the wedding has been planned since November. He was under the impression that he would be @Corry thru the end of the year but things moved much faster. Sailor spoke to a chief on Tuesday afternoon and, unbelievably to me, the Navy has pulled back his Japan orders for his 1st tour so he can complete his plans with his fiancé. He never asked not to go to Japan but just to have permission to take her. They are very happy and looking forward to see where new orders take them. He plans on making the Navy a career and they are excited about traveling in the future.
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Rorysmom - that's wonderful!  How nice that it worked out for your son.

Angie - Thanks for posting the link - I know I have seen that before (must've been here).  I love it.  Silly boys.  I hope TSA allows the watermellons thru to the gate!  Enjoy being with your son!

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

    Rorysmom...that is fantastic!!

Paula - that's why we are not meeting him outside the gate   My crazy family is so silly

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Thanks so much all. Also, congrats Janet! So happy for you and your sailor!
  • Paula (was Capricorna)

Hooyah and Bravo Zulu to Ariel.  Congrats Janet R.!!!

    Thanks for letting us know.

WooHoo! My sailor is now 1st in his class at A school. So very proud of him. He says he plans on keeping it that way.

Hi all :) I have a quick question...My son is graduating A school in Pensacola today(with Honors may I so proudly add) and unfortunately we can't be there to show support and hug our sailor like we did for PIR. Is there a location online that someone will be posting the video of the graduation? We are really bummed that we can't be there(long way from MI!). Thanks!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Lidsterzoo  My son also graduated this morning  (CTR)   and we couldnt make it there either    He is my only child and this is the only thing of his Ive ever missed so needless to say Im bumming    I did ask one of the mom's who was attending to take pictures for me so I hope I get it.  Congratulations to your sailor and to you   Bravo Zulu!!
  • lidsterzoo

Thanks Angie! Did your son get his orders yet? My son is Hawaii bound but they are holding him for another class and private stuff. He is getting exactly what he wanted and is so stoked! I really hope someone out there will maybe post a video to youtube or something.  Pictures would be great also! Congrats to you and your son :)
  • NavyMom4J

My son graduates A School August 12th- he is CTT.  But no orders yet and he was not asked to fill out a dream sheet- but told he might find out where he goes this week? so maybe not all of them get a choice????
  • lidsterzoo

NavyMom4J...I think my son just happened to get picked for this. He got his orders roughly a week and a half before graduation. The orders weren't set in stone until I believe today(graduation day)..He now has them in hand.
  • NavyMom4J

lidsterzoo- I am so anxious to find out where they will send him!!

I too am really wishing i could go to his graduation. I will ask him to see if any of his sailor friends parents will be there to take pictures. OR a sailors girlfriend to post on face book .

  • lidsterzoo

Is there a facebook page for CTT, CTR, etc. moms and families? I really wish this site had a like button lol
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)
