CTmomof3 - To me, it sounds like you have old news. Okinawa is no longer a weight-restricted area.  However, maybe the tsunami made them put it back into place.  You really need to check on that.

See the bottom of page 3 here.

    http://kadenaforcesupport.com/CPO/forms/KadenaGuide-Dec09.pdf

    Here is more info:

    http://www.belvoir.army.mil/jppsowa/outbound.html

The weight I wouldn't worry too much about. You probably never seperated his professional items from his actual HHG.  All professional items don't get counted towards the weight limit.  The above link will show you all the professional items you can deduct.  It's quite a bit.

The express shipment shouldn't count against him, An unaccompanied baggage shipment is authorized not to exceed 600 pounds for activeduty member and 200 pounds each family member. Weight is not counted against the administrative weight restriction.

    http://www.japanbases.com/Portals/0/activeforums_Attach/ppso.pdf

    3. Navy personnel:

    a. Okinawa, JA: 25 percent of full JFTR weight allowance or 2,500 pounds, whichever is greater. NOTE: A weight restriction will not apply unless it appears in the member's orders. Refer to NAVSUP Pub 490 fordetailed guidance.

Okinawa) - 75 percent of full JFTR/JTR weight allowance for inbound shipments.(1) A weight restriction will not apply unless it appears in the members rotation from Japan.(2) Members will be entitled to full weight allowance upon rotation from Japan.

Lastly, if he is over the weight limit, he can request a waiver.  I had to do that when I transferred from Georgia from Scotland.  It's almost always rubber stamped.  The bottom line is to declare the professional items at the end, and you should be under the limit (if they still have a weight restriction in place).

  • salpetty

Yes 4 year.  And I love this group because you (Craig) are such a wealth of knowledge.  And I thought I knew it all!  Ha!  I'm already giving my kid information overload!  But I'm glad you know all the CTT stuff...because I sure as hell don't.
  • Craig

salpetty - Beleive me, I have a "I hate Craig" fan club.  Just within the last two days, I've had two things happen.

    1. Being called an @sshole.  But it's a joint title that I get to share with Lady Hamilton (who's part of our group here), who is a b*tch.  LadyH and I need to have a run off to see who is the winner....

    Craig being called an @sshole

    2.  Being labeled with the title of "lack of taste, disrespect and common decency"

    Craig Lack of taste

Not to mention that I'm banned from the Pensacola group because I called them out for posting wrong information.  But yet again, I took down one of our own members here... she was banned with me.  I'm not going to mention her name...Oh heck, yea I will...clockard....  Just saying....

See, I'm actually bad luck to you guys... but remember, I'm a lover and not a fighter....-ha

  • sunshine73

Holy Crap!!! I for one am glad that you are here. If people don't want an honest answer then they shouldn't ask.  I know we need support here but I would rather not just have someone only tell me what I want to hear. Besides, all men are a$$holes, it just shows up at random times. They can't help it. And yes, I  too have been called a B many times. I am a high school science teacher after all.
  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Hey...I was banned too when I joined this group. I remember thinking how did they know but I also questioned misinformation and that must have been the final straw.
  • Craig

Man, I wonder who else was banned.  That is too funny!

So just to clarify, you joined this group (ie the Cryptology) and you questioned a post over there and they banned you?

This could actually work really well for us.  Much like bikers wearing leather jackers and chaff's, being CT people, we should show our colors too!  I think since our sailors are computer nerd people we should show our support.  The guys need to wear leisure suits and the gals turtle neck sweaters and patten leather shoes.  Man we would be awesome!  We would be showing our true colors!

Ok, lets all pick what clothing we will wear from this 1977 JC Penny's catalog...

    JC_Penney_1977.pdf

Make sure you enlarge it so you can admire the views....
  • salpetty

Well you guys have confirmed for me what I knew would be true....you are awsome and you have a sense of humor!!!  I love it and I'm honored to be a part of a group of A-holes and Biatches!!!!
  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Lol...I can't remember what came 1st...the chicken or the egg. I believe I questioned a response about ALL sailors at Pensacola are aviation and I responded something about what about my CTT who had been at NAS for months. Got a pretty curt reply then found this group and joined. Tried to get on the other group a few days later and was blocked...oh well...their loss not mine. I do appreciate all of you here and the info and support!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

So proud of my friends the asshole and the bitches!!  You rock!
  • cinder

The other group is boring. They only talk about fluff. If you want to laugh and really learn anything this is the best group.
  • cinder

Oh yeah, proud parent of a nerd!
  • navymom3

I love this group as I get all kinds of info. All of you have been the best.

My son got his written orders finally today. Now he is finding out what he has to do come home for a bit before c school starts.

  • Deborah (CTT son)

Son graduated on Friday and made it to Pensacola on Saturday!  He lost 20 lbs. while in BC, still has the Ricky Crud and has athlete's foot but he says he's excited to start his next chapter.

I haven't been banned yet by the other group (probably tempting fate by just saying it on here) but can tell you that I find more useful information from the people over here!

Salpetty - it was nice to meet you at the airport seeing our kids off on Saturday - way to early but definitely worth every minute.

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Deborah  Welcome and tell us what flavor CT your son is.   Also tell him how proud we are!   My son is a CTR  stationed in Ft Meade MD   awaiting his polygraph on Thursday and then the real fun begins

  • Deborah (CTT son)

Thank you Angie.  My son is CTT.  He told me after graduation that he never knew how proud it would make him feel just putting on his uniform.  So your son has already graduated Pensacola then?  How long was he there?  I have a daughter who is stationed in West Virginia.  She's been in a year as "undesignated" and wishes she would have done it differently but doesn't have any regrets.
  • navymom3

Welcome Deborah, My son is still in Pcola at Corry. He is currently working the main quarter deck during the day until his c school starts. My son is CTM. Your son will like being in Pcola.
  • salpetty

Deborah..have you talked to him?  I've talked to my daughter quite a bit and she likes the base and is looking forward to all the goings on while she's there.  I'm sure they will end up in the same class.
  • cinder

    Hi Guys,

My son is in his A school for CTT until mid November and than will start C school after that.  He likes Corry Station better than NAS.  Much more relaxed and so far said it has been easy.

  • sunshine73

Welcome to the newbies!!!!    rorysmom~I have spoken up about Corry being different than NAS on the P'cola site and gotten scolded too. There is a lot of misinformation there about Corry but if you say something feelings get hurt. I don't say much there anymore. If this is how Aholes and Bs act, then I am in good company :0
  • Deborah (CTT son)

Wow - what a nice welcome you guys give!!

Salpetty - Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to talk to my son since he arrived.  We got home late yesterday afternoon and he left a msg on our answering machine but it cut him off.  He doesn't have a cell phone yet cause he let his expire here since he wanted to get a new one. I bet they'll be in the same classes too.

So, do CTT's actually go directly to Corry?  I thought I read somewhere that they might start out at NAS to do INDOC and ATT class and then end up at Corry.

  • salpetty

My daughter went straight to Corry.  When they left the airport, they dropped off everyone going to NAS first.
  • cinder

The only ones that go to NAS first are people that need the ATT class such as 6 year CTT's other wise you go straight to Corry.  My son is a 6 year.
  • navymom3

My son is CTM and he had to do the ATT class at NAS first also before heading to Corry. He like Corry better. .
  • NavyMom4J

I have learned so much on this site and it is the best!  My sailor's last day of C school is Friday- then he gets to come home for leave for some days before reporting to San Diego on 18th October.  I don't think i can leave this group and will stay connected if only just to keep in touch with all you guys-

Don't know what type of bachelor housing he will get at Navy Base SD,. so he says Navy will move his stuff after he knows if he has room enough for his big big chair....  Not sure he can delay the move or if things have to go during this time- seems to give me different answers all the time.  Anyway- welcome newbies- the knowledge you will gain on this site is awesome-

  • NavyMom4J

My sailor third from left- on graduation from A school- he carried the American flag for that ceremony that day. :)

  • NavyMom4J

Can you believe after all this time I finally figured out how to download pictures! GEEZ

My Sailor - 2nd from right in the back- with the glasses.

  • cinder

Very nice pictures. I live in San Diego and he will have lots to do here.
  • navymom3

Navymom4j- Great pics I was there last week.
  • Craig

    Great Pics!  Those are awesome....

Just to clarify to bring everyone on the same sheet of music, all CTM's and CTT's (technical, ie the 6 year CTT's) go to Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) located on NAS Pensacola to learn basic electronics.  After that, then they transfer to Corry.    The 4year CTT (operators) go straight to Corry.

Lastly, I can't think of a better bunch of b*tches to hang out with...

    Just remember you are,

Time again to play a song....

  • salpetty

I'm really enjoying all this entertainment!!!  And thanks for all the info.
  • cinder

    Lmao
  • sherilyn

hello everyone.  kinda new to this site.  been quite awhile since i have been able to get online! seems like forever when i was on boot camp site everyday!

my daughter just graduated for CTR & received her new orders.  she gets to come home next week for 5 days, then is driving her car to her new station.  visited her during labor day weekend, but will be so happy to have her home for a few days!

i am looking forward to finally getting back online & talking to people about what our kids & ourselves are going thru!  it's been a very long summer!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Welcome Sherilyn   Congratulations to you and your daughter.  My son is also a CTR currently stationed at Ft Meade   He has been there about 2 months  Where is your daughters next duty station?
  • Pamela

Oh, how we would love to have our son being stationed in the US!  We hate so much that he is going to Japan.  It's way to much money to fly there and visit.  So, hopefully he'll be able to come home once a year on leave!  He's getting a little more excited about it.  Had his polygraph test last Monday.  Poor kid is only 18 and has never done anything wrong in his short life.  But, he said he was still so nervous.  Must of passed though, because he never got a call saying otherwise.  Can't wait to see him on Oct. 13th!!!!  Then home for 21 days!!!!  Then off to Japan he goes!  YUCK!!!!!  We're keeping it all positive for him though.  Telling him it's an experience of a life time.  Which I know it will be, but the part of not seeing him for 3 years is what I hate.
  • navymom3

Pamela, I know where you are coming from. My son is CTM though and he also will be going to Japan. But not until January. We thought it would be soon but he got assigned a c school. Which made me happy as we would have missed his 21st birthday. But he wanted to see the world. And we are happy for him as he wanted to go to Japan. He is very much looking forward to Japan. And us to are not sure if we will be able to visit because of the cost. But still happy for him.
  • Pamela

My son will be home for here with us for his 19th.  His b-day is Oct. 30th.  We live in Daytona Beach and will have to have him back up to Pensacola for the 4th.  He has to be in Japan by the 11th.  My nephew is in Japan on the George Washington and loves it.  My son and he are already planning on a snowboarding trip.  My son will be in Misawa which is northern Japan.  Lots of snow up there compared to where my new nephew is.  My son wanted to go to Denver.  Or at least some place in the US.  Japan is a far cry from that.  But, as I said, he is starting to get excited.  I know when it's time for him to leave the flood gates will open!!!
  • Pamela

I meant to say he'll be home with us for his 19th.  Don't know what the heck I was typing!  LOL!!
  • navymom3

Pamela, Mine will be in Yokosuka. He is trying to come home during his wait for c school to start Oct 31st for 2 weeks. Then he will be home dec 13th until he has to leave to Japan. Has to be there by Jan 10th. His 21st is Nov 27th. Thanksgiving weekend. Since it's sunday we plan on taking him out sat night at midnight. He will have to be back at Corry sunday night for school monday morning. Also we live in middleburg.
  • navymom3

Craig thanks, My son plans on using this. He can use it between a and c school? Or does it have to between c school and duty station?

  • navymom3

Craig- I already had exited out. Sorry.
  • Craig

No problem.  Man it just tickes me off when I do that....  I will repost it after I write it up again...

  • navymom3

    Thanks Craig!!
  • Craig

Ok, since I killed my own post because I hit the little "x", I will post this again. Man I hate Google Chrome for not asking "Are you sure you want to delete?"...
    Anyways,
Since alot of the sailors in this group are getting ready to transfer from school, to their new PCS duty station, I wanted to bring up this again about RAP and HARP duty.
RAP duty allows sailors to save some of their leave by working at the recruiting station while on vacation. This helps the Navy by having the sailor work and talk to people from their own town and let them know about the Navy. It's a win/win for the Navy. The sailor wins by not having to use up leave (vacation), while the Navy wins by having these sailors get others to join.
Most sailors haven't a clue about RAP and HARP duty, so I will let you guys pass it on to them.
Here is the official instructions, and I will talk about RAP duty below, since most don't qualify for HARP. (but I will post a link about HARP too).
    RAP_duty_instruction
    HARP_duty_instruction

    =================================================
    1. RAP duty can not take/use rap while on holiday leave while still stationed at "A" School.
    2. RAP duty is only when a sailor is on leave between school and prior to reporting to their first command. It cannot use between "A" and "C" school.
    3. Students do not qualify for HARP duty, as they must be at their first command.
    MILPERSMAN 1050-220
    Recruiting Assistance Leave Program
What Is the Recruiting Assistance Leave Program
    a. Members on regular leave between “A” or “C” school or apprenticeship training and their first permanent duty station may participate in a program of 5 consecutive days of assistance to recruiting.
    b. This assistance includes but is not limited to the following items:
    (1) regularly scheduled school canvassing visits,
    (2) speaking at recruiting functions and civic activities,
    (3) follow-up of PRO-NAVY-RTC referrals, and
    (4) accompanying recruiters on home visits.
    How to Document Participation
    a. After completion of recruiting assistance, members must obtain documentation of participation by endorsement from the Navy Recruiting District.
    b. Upon reporting to next duty station, such documentation will constitute the authority for personnel officers and personnel support activity detachments to credit member with up to 5 days of non-chargeable leave.
  • NavyMom4J

Craig- My sailor is doing RAP - coming home to Denver and doing RAP at the recruiters office where he initially joined. I am so excited as he comes home Oct 3rd!

Looking at San Diego and finding all sorts of neat reasons to rejoice over this location for his first tour. So excited and can't wait to drive the car out there for him later.

  • salpetty

Let me assure you...San Diego is awesome!!! I'm in Long Beach, CA.  Not far from SD.  My daughter want's to be in San Diego, as she belongs to a yacht club down there.  She's a sailor...as well as a sailor :)  Lots to see and do there and the weather is just awesome!  And close enough to be able to enjoy the snow as well!
  • NavyMom4J

Salpetty: that is so good to hear. We were there on vacation when my sailor was 10 and did the whole tour thing but he has little memory of it. Except for Lego Land HA HA. anyway- he is excited! Plus it is a two day drive from Denver which makes for ROAD Trips!!  I used to live in Santa Anna and Santa Barbara- and would go to San Diego on occasion. Beautiful Place! He already knows a Marine being stationed there from P'cola and other Sailors also  who have orders for different ships. So will have friends right off.
  • NavyMom4J

Salpetty- where is the closest ski area to San Diego? My sailor grew up snowboarding .
  • salpetty

Anywhere in Big Bear area is good.  Snow Valley, Bear Mountain, Snow Summit are tops.

I grew up in Santa Ana :)

  • Craig

NavyMom4J - Are you going to the packing party?

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/coloradomoms/forum/topics/packing-...

I think glassdog and I will be there...

  • NavyMom4J

Craig- ah I wish I could- but bad timing for me- I will be working with my horse in some sessions to practice my horsemanship to put on some demonstrations coming up and I need the practice BAD!  Otherwise I would be there. Hopefully next time one is planned I can go. I have never done a packing party! and would love to go sometime.
