Craig, How do I read the "Critical NEC List in Fleet Ride" spread sheet? What do the numbers represent?
  • Craig

CRF230dad - I have had that asked a bunch of times on my NavyDEP.com website, so I went ahead and made an info sheet breaking out the various areas.

It's in an Excel format.   Just click the various worksheet at the bottom when it opens.  I broke out the CTI rating since those guys are weird and have a bunch of different variables.  .  Just look at the PAGES area located under the pictures of the members, and you will see it

My son is graduating from A school 6 yr. CTT this Friday and I was wondering if anyone had someone that is also graduating and if you are going because I would really like to get some pictures of my son. I live in Ca. and it is just way to much money to fly out.
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

cinder, just ask your son to check with some of his buddies to see if they have family coming that could do that. They will probably do the graduation in the chapel and when my son graduated, they were great about stopping and posing for pictures. I took pictures of every single graduate and my son then posted them all on Facebook. It was so nice to get comments on them from the other parents/family who couldn't be there.
  • NavyMom4J

Bety,Mom and Cinder:  I got my photos on Facebook too from others taking the pictures- it was so nice! Definitely ask your sailor to have his friends or girl friends of friends to do this.

  • CRF230dad

cinder, My son is also a 6y CTT from Calif. but he does not graduate until Dec.I will be the same boat come graduation time. I hope someone can take pics for me. Good luck!
  • NavyMom4J

All: My sailor (CTTSA) said when he got to San Diego, Navy gave him peice of paper that told him all the jobs that are most suited for him due to his asvab score and security clearance, and number 1 job that was recommended to him was special warfare boat operator. The second was special warfare operative.

He would I think have to switch jobs for this I think. He is indecisive about it- I thought I would ask you all what you think about this - My advice to him is to stay CTT : he hasn't even been out yet on his ship to do his job as of yet- (His ship in dry dock for repairs for who knows how long). What do you know of these jobs...my instinct is for him to stay CTT - at least get that under his belt before switching now.

  • cinder

That's a good question for Craig.

  • NavyMom4J

All- just found out that he does not have to change jobs for this. boy is this confusing stuff!
  • cinder

Is it the type of ship they want to put him on?
  • NavyMom4J

I don't know- I have to get more info from him to understand- but apparently he can do this maybe while he waits for his ship, USS Lake Champlain to get out of Dry Dock- I really don't know. The fact that I thought he would have to switch jobs threw me off- but now he says no. Got to love all of this!!!  LOL
  • NavyMom4J

All- thought I would change my profile picture - taken when he was home in Denver last month!
  • salpetty

    Such a cute picture :)
  • Craig

NavyMom4J - If he gives up this chance, he will never get another opportunity.  Being a SPEC OPS CTT is probably this best thing there is.  Does it have consequences?  You bet!  If you have noticed during almost every helicopter that is shot down in Afghanistan, there is at least 1 CT on board.  It's part of the job.  We have to have CT's doing those types of jobs.  The CT's are the only people that are authorized to do it.  It's part of the Secret Squirrel type of stuff, and I can't go into it.  However, as always, I will point you to the unclassified rules.

CT assigned to Tactical Information Operations (TIO)

Secondly, he will only be one of a handful of people to earn the NEC of 5350.  Which says:

    http://i39.tinypic.com/dphcfn.jpg

So, all I can say is, if this was my son and he didn't take this rare opportunity, then I would have to start reading my book again....Just saying...

  • cinder

Wow Craig I knew you would know the answer. Navy mom how did he do in his Ctt school? Is he 4 yr or 6 yr. Nice honor but you have got to be a little scared too. I know I would be.
  • Craig

cinder - In todays age, I wouldn't be scared at all.  Heck our police get shot at more than our military.  I'd much rather be in Afganistan as a CT, than walking through the ghetto in my own country (the U.S.)

What people fail to realize is that when they show the # of military that have died in the middle east, it includes people that died in car accidents and other weird stuff (ie suicides).  You have more chances of getting wack here in the U.S. just by driving a car.  Everyone still has that WW2 stuff in their heads where we lost thousands per day.  But look at the numbers in our generation.  It's 1850 since 2001.  That to me is incredible. Heck, we're at war. 1850 is not that much.  It's just that the news plays it up.

I hate talking about deaths, especially to a bunch of moms.  But people just need to know the facts.   10 years of war (1850) doesn't even add up to the single day of the World Trade Center killings (2996).   We can walk around scared or we can live our lifes.  To me, I would be honored for my son spearheading our military in the middle east.  When you look at the numbers, it shows that he's not in harms way.

Just my view.....of course, I'm not a mom either....

  • cinder

This is true Craig thanks for putting everything into perspective. My son rides a motorcycle talk about accidents.
  • Craig

Heck yea....  I still have it ingrained in my head my mom yelling "You will not ride a MURDER cycle"...  However, I must admit, I am actually thinking of getting a bike.  I think my mid-life crisis is forcing me to try it.
  • cinder

We rented a Harley trike when we were in pensicloa so fun to see the world around you. Life is to damn short enjoy it while you can.
  • salpetty

My husband's mid life crisis "forced" him to acquire a '48 Triumph...and of course it "forced" him to get it all restored....which "forced" a lot of money to exit my pocket...grrrrr.
  • Craig

Frankly, I'd like to get a Can-am for my wife and I.  One for each....  Just sit back and enjoy the ride....

btw:  Just curious, did your husband wear this shirt?

  • cinder

My dad had one of those very cool.
  • salpetty

That is hilarious!!!! I should get him that shirt.
  • NavyMom4J

Craig- Thanks for the info- I have a whole new opinion now of what this is ...thanks for sharing your views. I will let him know what you said below - he asked me to get your opinion by the way when I told him I put this on Navy for Moms!!!

  • navymom3

We ride motorcycle also. On the Can-am the tail pipe is close to your leg. A friend kept getting hers burnt and traded it in for a trike instead. I took the class to ride and have a bike. But haven't ventured out of the neighborhood yet. Need to practice some more. But ride on the back with my husband. You just have to be cautious of other drivers. It is fun and exciting. Maybe I will practice tommarrow.
  • navymom3

Navymom4j- My son says the same thing when he needs me to find out something. He asked me to find out about Japan when he first found out that is where he is going.
  • Craig

salpetty  - A 48 Triumph is awesome.  I really need to take a local class.  But is kind of sucks here in Denver because it's starting to get cold.  I'll probably will wait till next April or so....

cinder - Your dad has one of those?  You do mean the t-shirt?  j/k

navymom3 - As long as it's not near the middle leg, then I'm find with it.... but wait... Would that be a "hotrod" then?

  • salpetty

Oh my gosh...you're killing me!!!  I just love your sense of humor!!!
  • momoffour(Ship 11 div 119)

Thanks for putting those casualties in perspective, my leaves for deployment in the spring and the mom nerves already started. But when he was home recently, he just seemed so content and pumped about the training! He is living every little boy's dream from what little he can tell me LOL!  He was going to get out after his six years if he had to be behind a desk so I am thankful he found a niche in his field that is the complete opposite. I think that is what is so cool about the CT field is there are so many facets to the rate. Saw the conversations about motorcycles, my husband is a rider and my side family has always called motorcycle riders "organ donors" so I am always begging my kids not to take up dad's passion for the thing!
  • navymom3

momoffour- All 3 of my boys rode dirt bike. But not extreme dirt bike riding. My oldest has his license and rides one of our bikes as he sold his. My youngest likes to ride on the back for now. He is only 15. And my CT I don't think is interested now at all. It was hard enough getting him to get a drivers license.
  • cinder

Hi Guys,  Yes Craig my husband does have that shirt I got it for him at Las Vegas Bikefest.  My husband has a Yamaha cruiser and my son has a Harley, which he just got.  We made the mistake and rented Harleys when we visited him this summer and he could not get it out of his mind.  Now we have to sell his KZ 1000 and acutal old police cruiser just like on CHIPS.  Anyone interested in it?
  • cinder

I think we need to start a Spooks motorcycle club with patches and all.
  • navymom3

Cinder- We also have a Yamaha's his is a Roadstar and mine is 1100 Vstar. The 3rd one is a vmax. He traded a car I bought when we moved here to Florida for it. So technically it's mine also. LOL We also rented a Harley when we went to Hawaii last year and now he wants one also. But even if we sold all 3 of ours it wouldn't be enough.
  • cinder

My husband has the 750 Vstar but wishes he had gotten the 1100.  Yeah I know what you mean about the costs crazy right.
  • navymom3

Cinder- To bad you guys are on the other side of the country. I would say we could take a ride. If you are ever in the Jacksonville area we could ride.

We got a good deal on my 1100 vstar. Just before we moved from Hawaii the husband found it for 400 bucks it had no key or title. It was the guys uncle who moved back to Tonga and wanted it sold as it had been sitting in his backyard for quite a while. Got a new frame so we could get a title and my husband did a complete switch over and a few more new parts. And it runs like a dream. Probably got about 1000 into it is all. I am lucky my husband can do his own work.

  • cinder

Wow that was a steal. Yeah to bad we don't live closer I really enjoyed meeting you guys at the meet and greet at GL.
  • salpetty

Finally!!! My daughter is classing up tomorrow!
  • cinder

I am so excited my son just graduated from CTT A school and was 4th in his class overall and 2nd in Navy enlisted.  Now the wait for c school.
  • navymom3

My son just took his first test in his c school today. Only 19 days and he will be home for Thanksgiving and his 21st birthday.
  • salpetty

Cinder:  congrats to your boy!  Way to go!.

Navymom3: What a great thanksgiving that will be.

    So happy for you both!!!!

  • NavyMom4J

Awesome all who are graduating A school!

  • CeliaSews

Does anyone know if they SR's who graduated BC last Dec 17 and were going to A School in Pensacola/Corry Station, were granted any leave for Christmas?  I'm in NJ and PIR is 12/16.
  • CRF230dad

Craig - Are only 4ys able to get TIO billets?

  • CTmomof3

I've been without power since last Saturday, and appears will be out for several more. Sorry if this has been asked but I dont have time to go back. Where is A school graduation at Corry held? can you just go or do you need to be on a "list?" my husband is going down Wednesday for graduation on Thursday.
  • sunshine73

Graduations are held in the Chapel. It is very laid back. No lists. Just let them know at the gate that you are there for graduation. The Chapel is just past the gate on the left. I enjoyed A school graduation a lot more than PIR.
  • navymom3

CTmomof3- The graduation is held in the chapel at Corry. There is no list. He just tells the gate guard he is there for graduation they will direct him to the Chapel. But it is on the left just after you go in the gate. Have him sit on the far right side as far up from as he can sit and on the aisle. Thats the best spot to take pics from. They will stop and pose so he can take pics.
  • Craig

CRF - A 4 year can go TIOA, and if they extend, they could go TIO.  For that job, I'd extend.  It would be pretty cool.  It's well worth extending....
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Celia, yes the 12/17 PIR last year was granted holiday leave (my son's PIR group).  As Craig stated (for the 12/29 PIR), if your SR is allowed to take holiday leave following PIR, they will be responsible for their transportation back to A school from where ever they spent their holiday leave.  If they are granted holiday leave this year, I will be able to help you all with details, on that group, as I am a member, there as well.
  • CeliaSews

Thanks for the info, I SMILE.  My SR's PIR is on 12/16.  I guess I'll just wait to see what my son says in his letters.  It shouldn't be a problem getting him a flight home after PIR.  Getting the flight back to Pensacola might be a little tricky, depending on when it is after the holidays.
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Ooops, I apologize I SMILE.   I just realized that it was you who provided that info.
