Yay! My son just called and he started his C school today for CTT, so he is going to Taco Bell to celebrate.

  • cinder

Hey Craig my son said he has 3 more classes after c school, what are these?
  • Craig

cinder is he a 4 or 6 year CTT?

  • Craig

    Emma - Woo-hoo... A true CTR now.....

You watch, in 2 years YN will be short and they will ask people to cross rate to it....  Only in the Navy...

  • cinder

He is a 6 year CTT.

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Lady Hamilton, the same thing happened with my son's CTT rate.  It was undermanned and now is overmanned, just since he started his A school.  My son just got his Orders and he finished his A school in Nov.  Hoping that your M gets the Puget Sound.  My son did get Bremerton.

  • CRF230dad

cinder My son started C school also. They may be in the same class (Alpha shift) or I'm sure know one another.

  • CRF230dad

Craig, If he takes the FSP at the beginning of his hitch should he still request it again before separation?

  • cinder

My son told me that one of the classes after C school is ship ops, so I guess they don't have such a long wait for those.  Anyone have advice for CTT C school?  Is it hard what should he focus on etc.

  • CRF230dad

I have corresponded with several active duty CTTs via facebook and other web forums before and since my son joined. They said they learn in steps and it's not that bad. I told them my son had no electronic background at all. They all said if you smart enough to make that rate, you pay attention and stay focused it shouldn't be an issue.

  • salpetty

I agree, CRF230dad.  My daughter (who has no electronic background whatsoever) is actually doing extremely well.  And there are plenty of opportunities for study.  In fact, sailors who scored below a certain percentage on a test were required to attend a study session.  I think the ASVAB does a pretty good job of figuring out what each person is capable of.

  • cinder

Good to hear!  My only concern is in A school he didn't have to study and this time they actually get books to take home and study.  He hates to study. LOL

  • salpetty

He probably meant that his study during A school didn't take place outside of class.  They have a lot to learn in A school but they can't bring any materials outside of the compound, i.e. top secret stuff.  A lot of their "studying" took place in class.

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

cinder, yes, salpetty is right, it's all top secret.  As a matter of fact, all of the school buildings at Corry are actually fenced and have barbed wired also.

  • Craig

cinder - Man, you had me really messed up on your question about the 3 classes after "C" school.  I am pretty much up on all the CT stuff and frankly never heard of anything after "C" school so I needed to verify with my buds on what the heck you were talking about.

So here's the deal.  I think you miss typed and meant to say "A" school, and not "C" school.  As a 6 year CTT, you get a "C" school.  "C" school  has 3 classes, they are Shipboard Ops, Maintenance, and SS-DLS (chaff) training.  The order of these classes always rotate.  Then, once you get your orders they will give you the specific training on which version of the AN/SLQ-32 you need for the ship you are going to.

You might want to read this, which I thought I had posted here at N4M, but can't seem to find it.  This is all unclassified:

  • cinder

He just started c school but I guess I didnt understand when he said there are 3 classes I thought he meant after c school. LOL.
  • cinder

A long time ago didn't you post what parts they needed to know like V 2 mod A. Would that be helpful to send my son? I vaguely remember something about that. I guess sometimes I get info. Before I know what to tell him. He really appreciated your story about the polygraph test. He had a good laugh.
  • Craig

cinder - The most important thing for the CTR's, CTT's, and CTM's to know is the Frequency Spectrum's but they are so dang hard to remember.

Years ago, I was really hardcore on the sailors that worked for me.  I wanted to make dang sure they got advancement. So I made them attend mandatory training for my division to showed them tricks to pass their advancement test.  Attached is one of those things. What I taught them, I decided to make for my website and I called it "Vets helping Sailors".  Maybe you can freak out your own sailor by learning the frequency spectrum yourself.  It's soooo easy, and they will wonder how the heck you know it, because they themselves won't know, but they need to!

    Just remember the saying:

"Very Lonely Men Have Very Unusual Sexual Extremities"

Now look at the attachment and you'll understand frequency spectrum's.

Note: keep clicking and it will get bigger (kind of like the Lonely Men sexual extremities)

I'm currently in Pensacola spending the weekend with my daughter. It was really cool to see Corry and check out her room. What was most striking was the creepiness of those compound buildings. They are very reminiscent of East Berlin. The weather has been gorgeous and I plan to go to the church service with her tomorrow night :)

Very good Craig! LOL  Forwarding this one to my son!!!

  • cinder

That sucks big time! This whole down sizing over manned and under manned stuff is crazy. Who the hell figures out what they need should be gone.
  • NavyMom4J

LadyHamilton- awesome picture! Congrats to your Sailor!!!

Mine is getting Married the 17th- we are rapidly putting a wedding together - only had a month to do it but so excited he got leave to come home to get married!

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

until some CTR1 somewhere is hit by a bus???????   NICE!!! Be careful what you wish for it may happen & it could be one you know...  I wish all our CTM - CTI -CTN - CTR - CTT's the best and to live long happy lives. YOU SHOULD TOO...

  • navymom3

    Lady Hamilton great pic!

    Navymom4j congrats on the wedding.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Navymom4...Crazy time huh! Our CTT did the same to us last year. His C school moved faster than anticipated so instead of the December wedding planned, ended up planning the wedding for 130 in 5 weeks! Congrats and I know it will be an amazing, emotional time for you!
  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Well said Mr. mom.....While I understand comments are made in anger and jest at times, and we all do it, and I am the least politically correct person out there, with the military losing our young men and women for many different reasons, it is always heartbreaking to someone....our local base has just lost it's 4th Marine in the past month and every time those pictures are on the front page.......
  • NavyMom4J

Roysmom- there must be something in the NAVY Water that has our sailors marrying so young!  and so quickly - a lot to adjust to. First boot camp- now marriage - all within a year. CRAZY

  • salpetty

Ditto Mr. Mom and Rorysmom.  As in life, things never go as planned and in the Navy, things can turn on a dime.  One day you think you're doing something and the next day you are doing something else and, in some cases, starting from scratch.  Take if for what it is, make the best of it and find something positive.  My daughter complained the whole time she was in holding because she was bored out of her mind and feeling really unproductive.  I told her to look at the bright side:  There's no job in the civilian world that will pay you just to BE.  Unless you're a Kardashian of course :) My kid graduated A school this morning.....Happy Superbowl Weekend to all!

  • navymom3

salpetty congrats on your daughter graduating today!

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

Congratulations to you and your SAILOR salpetty.  What you said is very true in today's economic hard times. I told my son b-4 he left for BC, Look most of your friends and what job they have and where they are going at this point in their life, Now think of what you are about to do and the possibilities after 6 or more years in the NAVY and not to mention as a civilian what jobs you will be able to get after being a CTM. He told me I will stay in the navy for as long as I can I want to be a lifer. I looked @ him started to cry & told him how proud I am no matter how long you stay in the NAVY. He researched all the horror stories and accepts the Challenge But hopes he bypasses that & is set for smooth sailing. I laughed so hard when he said that & then he got what he just said. I told him the transformation is already taking place... LOL

  • NavyMom4J

MRMom- oh how true and exactly the same conversation I had with my son- now a CTT aboard the USS Lake Champlain missal guided cruiser. Makes me so proud!

  • salpetty

From my experience in the Navy, I have met the wackiest people on the planet!  But I have met my best and lifelong friends.  And the experiences you get, whether at sea or on land....you can't get anywhere else.  Even the most mundane tasks can be made fun.  I had a lot of laughs while in the Navy :)

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

I too rorysmom(Ship13Div244) Understand @ times we say things but on this site we need to help and make things easier for one another with out the hoping something bad happens to one of our Sailors. that needs to be said in privet messages . I feel for the families and loved ones that have had a Military loss. I cant even begin to imagine seeing my son's picture on the newspaper or t.v. news. I just got a little upset...  LOL but kept it nice & clean.  which is not like me!!! lol

  • NavyMom4J

I am sure the comment made was not intentional. We all make comments as expressions that we do not really think about before hand. Good points taken.

  • navymom3

MRmom is your son still in school. My son is a CTM and is now in Japan. He also now wants to stay in as long as he can. Took some convincing to join but now he said is was the best decision he made and loves it.

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

My brother retired 3yrs ago from the Navy as an aviation mechanic , wow is he an oddball lol.  I will feel so much more relaxed when he gets to A-school... O-k no i wont the wife being so worried will affect me, I will have to find things to do in the garage and garden allot... :)

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

navymom3 No he is @ RTC I just like to stay ahead so I can know & understand what he is about to go threw so I can be there for him and sound like I know everything lol plus it will make him more at ease.. He PIR's March 9TH in Great Lakes. He is going to be a CTM.

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

Time to take the 5yr old to the park and lunch. Yes I have a 20 & 5yr old. lol my wife says stay away and don't touch me lol... I wish all of you SAILORS the best of luck in life & love...

  • navymom3

mrmom -My son had pir March 18th and finally finished all the school dec. 9th. That was ATT class at NAS then move to Corry and do a school and c school.

  • CRF230dad

MR.MOM-DIV-85 It nice to finally have another GUY besides Craig here. I'm sure Craig felt like the roster in the hen house. No disrespect intended ladies. There is very little activity on the male version of this site.  http://www.navydads.com/

I have found this site to be invaluable to getting straight talk and real information about what's going on and what to expect. My son is a CTT currently in Pensacola Fl. in his C school.

    Welcome aboard!

  • CRF230dad

    NavyMom4J Is your son 4 or 6y?

  • salpetty

Mr. Mom:  If you are politically incorrect (as I myself am), you will love Craig, he's incorrect and innapropriate and a total crack up!!!  He's also a plethora of CTT and Navy info.

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

navymom3 I know it's a long time at A-school, I just hope my son stays on track & Passes. lol  I hope that when he graduates A-school I can bring him home to TN for even just a few days. I know that after PIR my family may only have a day or two with him but that would be a great boost for him and us as well. I hope you had your son home for Christmas...

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

CRF230dad THANX for the welcome!!!  I was on that site for around 2 weeks or so and well, you see where I am now. lol.  I started a group for ship-9 / div-85 and the other dads with sons or daughters in the same DIV for what ever reasons did not want to join or even talk about it so I jumped ship on that site. lol

I love to talk to others about my son and Navy life because it helps me and others so here I am.  CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU & YOUR SON!!!

  • navymom3

mrmom- yes he was home for christmas. He took his leave between c school and duty station. He was originally told he would be there 18 months so the time he was there was good. He was going to come home between a and c school but he had gotten assigned a great job between classes and didn't want to give it up. Plus it gave more time home before heading to Japan. Only 2 from his class stayed and had c school in pcola. His friend had c school in Virginia. Both being ctm.

And like salpetty said Craig is a wealth of info. Especially for CTM since he is retired CTM.

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

I have read a lot of what Craig had to say from his current and older post, blogs & replies. It helped with a lot of ?'s I had . At least on this site when I ask a ? some one will help the same day or next one. Thank you all.

  • boilermom

Anyone have or had a sailor at Goodfellow AFB in TX? Just curious, I can't find any info except what the AF has on their site.  From what my son tells me the barracks where they stay are NICE!  It's like a small apartment with a TV and full kitchen. Is this typical of C school or the fact that it's an AF base? He is in class with a lot of fleet returnees and feels rather lost .

  • Craig

CRF - I only feel like the roster in the hen house on the Chicken Ship forum.  Geez, those ladies on that forum make me blush sometimes.  Ok, that a bunch of bs, but I will admit that Sexual Harassment on that forum will not be reported, but it will be graded.  I need a place to chill after talking Navy 24x7 and that place hits the spot.  Except, they always are post hot guys.  Geez, sometimes N4M is too estrogen enriched.  ~ha

I do agree that the NavyDad's site is way too slow.  But what I really don't like is it's always seems like a dang d*ck measuring contest (for lack of a better word).  A lot of guys want to prove they know more than the others.  I'm not into that.  All I'm here for is to provide help to those that don't understand the Navy, and want to learn the un-sugarcoated version.  However, it's a two way street, I learn quite a bit from this website and pass that information on to the deppers on my website.  Just like yesterday, I had know idea that they are issuing back packs in boot camp now.

Mr.Mom - Glad to have extra testosterone here.  But to keep the balance of power you need to jab at the ladies a little to keep them spun up.  So I'll throw in one now:

God, I wished it was 1955 again!!!!....
