My son is on his first deployment as a CTT. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what the SN stands for as part of his CTTSN title. When I mail him something I am supposed to address it that way. Just curious? They set up his email within the first week and been able to send/receive emails. So reassuring!
  • cinder

    Yeah Craig in your dreams!
  • Craig

    Happy Days....  Woo-hoo....

  • Craig

boiler - I haven't been to Goodfellow in a long time, however, when I was there the base facilities were awesome.  The Air Force always does this stuff right.  I remember at the Galley someone said "Just leave your plate at the table, the civilians will pick it up".  Geez, I felt like I was in a restaurant.

Just curious, when I went, we flew from Dallas to San Angelo.  Do they still use a small turboprop airplane?  I remember having to crawl to my seat.  You couldn't stand up.  How does the sailors get there now?

  • sunshine73

I believe that. I my sailor heard rumors that the Air Force is not going to train at Corry anymore because its facilities/food were not up to up to their standards. I don't know when/if this is supposed to happen.

Love the article. Oh to have lived in the 50s.... I just printed it out to post on the refer. If this happens to be my last post you can assume I was killed in my sleep by means of an iron skillet.

  • momoffour(Ship 11 div 119)

I saw the post about email. My son leaves for his first deployment in a few weeks and I just assumed I could email him on his regular gmail account. Is that not correct?I also realized that if something happens to family while he is gone, I know only his rank and and rate. I recently helped two families call from the hospital where I work due to critical family illness and they asked alot more questions then those two lol!  Showed my husband the article, of course he loved it!

  • navymom3

momoffour once your son gets situated on the ship he can email from his ship address. Then you can email back and forth from it with you. I think my son only emailed from his ship email. And once they are off or change ships there email is different. Just remember he won't be able to tell you where they are or when they will be back. We set up a code with my son so we know where they were.

  • cinder

    My son took this picture.

  • Krspies - CTN Mom

what is the difference between CTT, CTN and CTR?  My son is CTN.

  • Krspies - CTN Mom

    thank you Clockard.

and you can call me Kelly ;)

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

I am the dominant species, I growl, I roar and when my wife is about to get home I start cooking dinner & setting the table after the 5 year old is washed and set for a night with mommy. O-ya & the house is clean. then when she is done eating & she looks around and see's all I have done. she pets me as I purr and I lie there knowing " I AM KING " LMAO

  • Craig

Kelly - You can look here too:

    http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ctratemoms/forum/topics/ct-info-ev...

cinder - Chair Force, now that is awesome.

sunshine - The Air Force does pay their airmen a dislocation allowance since the Corry facilities doesn't meet their standards.  I don't think they will move since it a joint facility.  I think it would be nearly impossible in todays "save money" era.

Lastly, if there is ever an family emergency and you don't know your sailors location or information, all you do is call the Red Cross.  The Red Cross is awesome.  When my father died, I heard from family members 1st, but the Red Cross was almost as quick since my family contacted them at the hospital.  They set up everything to get me home for the viewing and burial. It's one thing the military has got perfect.  It works really well.

  • cinder

Craig are you to chicken ship to post the 50's crap on the other site? Baaaaahaaaa! Matey
  • Craig

I need to... In fact, I need to do it now...  I like sturring the pot over there....~ha...

  • calliecl

Thanks for all the answers re their rates! My son bought a prepaid international cell phone at the NEX. He buys a new sims card in the ports he visits and that way he can call us while he is in port. He uses his ship email while he is on the ship. So nice to have contact. We also suspended his iPhone while he is deployed. Verizon waives charges for deployed military and they told me you could suspend up to 18 months!
  • calliecl

Also we contacted the ombudsman connected with his duty station. They reached out to us immediately. Gave us his email address and the mailing address for his ship. Also told us about a closed group Facebook page for his ship. I submitted my name through the ombudsman and they contacted ship command and I was approved once they verified my son was on the ship. Amazing to follow the ship and they post pictures. Saw my son in one!
  • boilermom

Craig - my son said it was a very small plane.  And.. apparantly AF chicks are hot.

  • Craig

boiler - Tell your son that yes, AF chicks are hot!

  • CRF230dad

I wonder if every ship has it's own closed facebook page?

How on earth would they keep it secure? It's facebook for Godsake...

  • MR.MOM-DIV-85

     LOL Good ?

  • navymom3

CRFdad I know the Ike has a webpage that is for family members only. The sailor has to send in your name and then once you request to enter they again confirm you are family to the sailor so you can see what they are doing. And each time you log in with your own username and password.

Also my family has a closed FB page and you have to be invited and okay'd to join by the administrator.  Our PIR group also has a closed fb page.

Just popping in to say HI!  Today is my son's one year anniversary in the Navy - what a whirlwind!  My Texan is currently learning to LOVE the great Northwest-he even survived 'Snowmaggedon'!  Lots of newbies - I know you are in good hands with the very helpful and mostly irreverent Craig!

  • sunshine73

Emma, just the mention of the sandbox makes this mom shiver.  One of my son's buddies from BC and Corry is there and he actually likes it. I know that probably doesn't help much, but...

  • navymom3

Wow Emma that is a ways away. I guess no more than Japan where my son is. Our landlord is currently in Bahrain. He will be there another 6 months. His dad said it isn't to bad. I think he is like military police though. I am sure it will be an experience for her. Mine got to go on a ship for the first time this week. He will be assign to the wilbur when they go out next time for a short cruise.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

CTT son on his first deployment enjoying 3 days RNR in Mallorca, Spain, after 11 days afloat then off to Middle East and Somalia for some anti piracy stuff. He loves Spain. His first time overseas so very happy he is having a good time. who knows what our sailors are going to be getting into the next few weeks/months. God bless them all!
  • PatriciaT

Rorysmom, what ship is he on?  Sounds very similar to my son's locale as well.

  • cinder

    Happy Valentine's Day

  • salpetty

This isn't official but I just talked to my daughter and she said that the main Chief came into her Shipboard Ops class today and said that the phone had been ringing off the hook because a bunch of CTT billets just opened up.  Which means that a bunch of people who were on hold may start getting orders soon.  That's all I know.  But see?  Things in the Navy can change at the drop of a hat.

  • cinder

Wow that is awesome news.  My son is currently in his C school for CTT.

  • salpetty

My daughter is too.  She just classed up yesterday :)

  • Debbie G.

Just CTT? My son is CTN and will finish A school at the beginning of July. Do you know where they were?

  • salpetty

The Chief was telling this to a class of CTTs and said that CTT billets had opened. He actually said, "I have some great news for you guys but don't get your hopes up too soon."  Right now there are a lot of CTTs in holding.  They've all finished their schools and are just waiting.  So those billets will most likely go to them first.  I'll find out more when I can.  I did ask her if she had heard about other rates and she said she only knew of the CTTs.

  • Debbie G.

Great, thanks!  I guess that he won't have C school, but A school lasts until July 5th and then he'll be finished.

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

salpetty, I think that is true right now.  My son graduated A school at the end of Nov. 2011 and was holding.  He is a CTT who just got Orders about 3 weeks ago for Washington state.  He will be on the aircraft carrier John C Stennis which is just coming back from a long deployment.

  • Krspies - CTN Mom

Are they allowed to have microwaves or mini fridges in their rooms in A school?

  • navymom3

Krspies they should already have that stuff in there room I believe. They can't have anything with an outside burner like a coffee pot.

  • salpetty

My daughter's room has a mini fridge, mini freezer and microwave.  They have a little kitchenette that they share with two other girls but the appliances (stove, microwave, fridge) have been disabled....as they are not allowed to use them.  She's in the BEQ (bachelor quarters), as are many CT rate girls.  I know there are other living quarters there, but I only saw hers.  Hope this helps.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

When my son was at correy last March he and many others were displaced from their rooms from a fire from a careless sailor who had been warned many times about not using heating plates etc in his room. The sailor left for the weekend leaving multiple plugs in the sockets which overloaded the system and caught on fire. I was in town when this happened and saw the damage. Not good. The sailor was ultimately discharged from the Navy.
  • cinder

Wow! That still seems pretty harsh to be discharges.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

Well from what I understand was given multiple warnings and he displaced four floors and four rooms per floor and up to 4 sailors per room. The damage was significant...just the smell was sickening. Not to mention the damage to other sailors property. My sailor was directly across the hall and just the water damage alone from fire hoses and fire sprinklers was a mess.
  • salpetty

I don't think that's harsh at all.  They've been told not to leave their rooms with plugs in the sockets and there are signs everywhere telling them what is and isn't allowed.  There are surprise room inspections on an ongoing basis.  Safety is a big deal in the Navy and they don't need that need that kind of carelessness.  I'm actually surprised though.  I've always said the Navy was like a bad parent....you know all talk and no consequences.  But in this case, it looks like they actually followed through.

  • Krspies - CTN Mom

thanks everyone for the info.  I read the recipe for the cake in a jar and I want to send my son's favorite meal in a jar but if he didn't have a way to warm it up it wouldn't be so good. lol so I thought, if he can have a microwave i'd have one delivered to him but if he has one already that's even better.  he is after all the king of the microwave. LOL

I can understand that sailor being discharged. It's sad but understandable.  when my 4 were growing up I always told them they weren't allowed to use the stove while I was gone.  Kids just never remember to unplug crap.  they don't get it  when they are told to not to plug so much stuff into an outlet.   with girls curling irons and straighteners are dangerous!

  • cinder

Ok! Everyone I stand corrected, did not know circumstance that they sailor had been warned etc.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

No problem Cinder...I thought it was reAlly something to make it all the way thru boot camp and then to go out that way. My sailor said it was a good thing the sailor was released that way cuz if my son got his hands on him it might have been worse!
  • CRF230dad

I'm late to this party but when was this fire incident and which barracks was it in? Which rate was the sailor? C'mon ladies, details please.... lol

  • cinder

I don't blame your son LOL.  What a big pain in the ass probably would have had alot of whoop ass come down on him.

  • rorysmom(Ship13Div244)

    No worries dad....March 2011.

Hello Guys, I have an insurance question. My sailor is stationed in Hawaii and is in the process of buying a car. He is currently on our NC insurance and has an NC drivers license. He is required to have insurance there and has USAA already set up. Our insurance company, Nationwide, is telling us that he has to stay on our policy if he still has an NC drivers license. Anyone else go through this? He will be in Hawaii for the next 2-3 years. Is there some kind of military form or something? help!
