Just look up in the discussion forum it will give you all kinds of info. At least as much that is allowed. Lol. My son is a 6 year CTT and finished his schooling at the end of October. He was in Pensacola for about 18 months. If you kid is a 4 year CTT they only go to A school and they get done a lot faster. My son is completing his first deployment and so far likes what he is doing.
  • cinder

Congrats Lady Hamilton she did that in a short period of time.

  • Ty's mom

Hi Bonnie, my son is in boot camp now too and he will be going to Pensacola for CTT A school his PIR date is 4/19.  when is your son's PIR date?

  • Bonnie

My son PIR date is May 10th and I am so excited for him. Nice to meet you and maybe our sons will end up working together someday :)

  • CRF230dad

Lady Hamilton what ship is your daughter on? My son is there also, well sort of. in & out of port.

  • NavyMom4J

Wanted to share a picture of my son getting an award for his CTT work in passing a huge series of inspections. He will be deployed next month for a month of drills to parts unknown. :)

  • NavyMom4J

craig- how can my son get ahold of you? Should I just have him send you a message on facebook?

  • harpist mom

Congratulations!! You must be proud of your son. What a wonderful accomplishment. Wishing him the best as he moves forward with his career!

  • Ty's mom

Congratulations on you son NavyMom4J!!! what a great accomplishment!

  • NavyMom4J

Thanks - seems like boot camp graduation was just yesterday.! It is so different with them being in the fleet now.

  • Craig

Since CT's are called "Spooks" in the fleet, I thought I'd post this:

  • CTmomof3

Just got the word. My son was accepted into the MCSAP program.  He'll be back in the U.S. next March.  He's thrilled as the plan he's layed out for himself seems to be falling into place.   To make this even better..both my boys will be stationed at the same place at least for a little while.

  • Craig

Some of you guys might want to bookmark this.
Since my son is a CTN. Their SRB bonus is:
    Zone A = 0 (4 to 6 years)
    Zone B = 3 (6 years 1 day to 10 years)
    Zone C = 3 (10 years 1 day to 14 years)

Since he is not totally sure if he's getting out or not, he told me since the bonus is zero (0) for Zone A, and since he won't have 6 years 1 day, he will probably get out. I let him know that he can fall into the Zone B category even though he doesn't have 6 years 1 day. There is one tiny exception to the rule in the rule book that allows him to do this. Most Career Counselors don't have a clue about this rule, so I will post it here just in case your sailor falls into the same category.... (whether if he gets out or not, he needs to know and weigh the actual facts....)

    Here is the rule:
    OPNAV 1160.8A, para 9b:
    a. A member who reenlists more than 24 hours after
discharge or release from active duty (RAD) will be considered a
Navy veteran (NAVET) or Other Service veteran (OSVET) with
broken-service. The 24-hour period begins on the day following
the date of discharge or separation. Recruiters will accept a
prospective reenlistee reentering active duty with a break in
active service greater than 24 hours only when presented with
the original DD Form 214 (copy 1 or copy 4), or a reproduction
of the DD Form 214 with a certified true copy stamp and
imprinted with the appropriate Federal Government authenticating
seal. This form will be used as the principal source document
    in determining broken-service SRB eligibility.

    also

    OPNAV 1160.8A, para 11, note 3:
    3. Members with exactly 6 years of active duty at 2400 on the date before
the date of reenlistment or beginning of an extension of enlistment are
entitled to a zone A SRB if otherwise eligible and they previously have not
received a zone A SRB. If members have received a zone A SRB, or no zone A
SRB is designated, they are entitled to a zone B SRB if all other eligibility
    requirements are met.

Shoot, I forgot....the below post refers to the new bonus levels that just came out.

Here are the new bonus levels for reenlistment....

    http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/messages/Documents/...

    I know someone will ask....
Here's How to figure your bonus:
Look up your monthly base pay on the military pay chart
    Determine your Reenlistment Zone (Zone A is 21 months - 6 years; Zone B is 6 years - 10 years; Zone C is 10 years - 14 years)
Look up the correct Bonus Multiplier for your Reenlistment Zone and NEC (Job)
Multiply your monthly base pay by the Bonus Multiplier (BM X BP)
Multiply the result by the number of years you are reenlisting for.
The result is the total amount of your reenlistment bonus. One-half will be paid upon reenlistment, and the rest divided to pay annually.

    Tips:
If you are reenlisting for partial years, use fractions. For example, 4 1/2 years is 4.5
Remember that about 25 percent will be deducted for federal and state taxes.

This is big talk on the Navy veterans websites I'm on....

Right call! Woo-hoo.... The Navy veterans are happy...

  • CTmomof3

IDW Pin...what's a board and why are there 3 for this?

  • Muschee

This comment isn't "Navy", but it is "Cryptology" so I hope it is okay to post. There is a PBS mini-series currently running that I find interesting. The Bletchley Circle revolves around 4 women who use their cryptology skills used in WWII to track down a serial killer. It appears they are showing the first of 3 parts a few times this week, if anyone else is interested.

  • Ty's mom

Good morning all, I have not been very active on this page but I will be now since my sailor is in Pensacola awaiting to start A school to become a CTT. he is loving it in Pcola right now and cannot wait to start school.

  • carolina Lynne

I, too, am fascinated by Blechley circle. wondering how different cryptology looks these days! Hoping my SR will get to start classes right away when he arrives 5/18. How do we know if his Security screening has been completed? as far as we know, no one has been contacted by the FBI (?) to inquire about activites/relationships- even though he provided all those names and numbers months ago.

  • Craig

That is correct Lady H. Whatever commands roots are is what goes on top. If she had air warfare, and the command assigned was an air wing, the it would go on top..
  • CRF230dad

Good morning all, i haven't been on this page for some time since my son left P-Cola last October. I just wanted to gloat a little. Just heard our son made Petty Office 2nd Class (CTT2) Congratulations to all the Phantom Warriors aboard the USS Paul Hamilton currently deployed who promoted! We could not be prouder of him...

  • Craig

Woo-hoo CRF.... Man, 2nd class is the best place in the Navy, you do are not truly management, and you are not truly a worker. It's the best place to be....
  • harpist mom

I'm a proud Navy Mom as well. My son called yesterday and said that he is now a CTM3. Very happy for him!

  • NavyMom4J

Congrats to all Sailors who have advanced!  My CTT did not, however, and he is pretty discouraged. 3rd time he has taken the test. Any thoughts out there as to how or what to help him deal? HE won't quit, but I wonder why it seems so hard for some and so easy for others to advance.

  • NavyMom4J

Right- he is trying to - I think some of it is just tough because he has spent a lot of time in port while the ship has been undergoing repairs. Now that it has been on more underway's, he has a better chance to earn more. He has gotten several awards, but only has been in his rate for 2 years. Maximizing a strategy is a great idea I will pass onto him. He is a very hard worker that does a lot more than expected and sometimes others get the credit when it is he that is really doing the work- which is really hard on him. I keep telling him, someone will notice that eventually.

  • NavyMom4J

Lady Hamilton: thanks so much! I will definitely send this onto my sailor. I know he has taken classes and also volunteering is a huge thing he has been done. I believe he earned his points for that. But I think this brag sheet will really assist him, and also keep him focused on knowing he has to TOOT his own horn. Appreciate the support!!!

  • georgiam0323

Hey Craig Maroney sent me!! He said to tell Dee Hi :) i'm from the PIR july 12th group on facebook, So i need to know how to start the move process from ohio out to california to stay at the lodge or stay with family, will the navy pay for our plane tickets out to California if its early? or is that an out of pocket expense?

  • B'sWife13210

My husband is in Monterey for CTI and is waiting for his security clearance to come through but tells me he is in phase 1. What all do they do in phase 1? He doesn't start classes til the end of July.

  • ambi9821

Dee-how long does Phase 1 last?  My Sailor is flying out to DLI Saturday, and his school doesn't start until July 9.  Does Phase 1 last until he begins classes?

  • ambi9821

One more question--do they have to arrive at DLI in their dress whites?  Some say they can change into another uni at the airport.  I don't want him to get to Monterey in the wrong uniform.  Thanks for any info.

  • B'sWife13210

ambi9821- my husband who is in phase 1 of DLI right now said that it lasts 2 weeks at the earliest.

  • Craig

Happy Father's Day Craig and all the other Dads! Sorry to be late with the wishes but my sailor is home we had a big day yesterday :)

  • kcowdin

Hello everyone! My Sailor graduated from Great Lakes and is headed off to Monterey. He is CTI. So I'm just curious about any advice any of you can offer as far as visits are concerned?

  • kcowdin

Or even just whatever advice you can offer would be super helpful!

    Thank you so much!!

  • tbaby90 SHIP 02 DIV 910

Hi.. I am wondering if any of your sailors were able to come home during "A" school for just the weekend..so they wouldnt be missing any class

thanks so much for your help!

  • Craig

tbaby - My nephew came home to Denver from Pensacola at least once a month, sometimes twice to keep a relationship going.  He did this for about 14 months.  All the sailor does is put in an "Out-of-Area" chit.  Very simple.....

  • tbaby90 SHIP 02 DIV 910

If I live in California which is like 2,000 miles from pensacola...would he still need to put an "out of bound" chit or request leave because it is so far away??

  • Craig

He only needs a "out of area" chit.  However, he best not take the last fight of the evening.  If he misses it, or it gets cancel, he's in trouble.  But it is based on what the command says, or even his chief.

  • Craig

Let me clarify that a little bit more.  If he is on liberty, and he has no duty, and its a normal day off (ie 4pm on Friday to 0630am on Monday (or 0630 on Tuesday because Monday was a holiday) then its an Out of Area chit.  If he misses any duty days, then he needs a leave chit, which more than likely will not be approved since he's in school.

  • proudmom

Just a reminder that it is also hurricane season here in Florida and we have alot of storms that do cause flight delays. We are only in Orlando, my son flew home and was almost late getting back because of flight delays. From that point on we did the drive up for long weekends to see him.
  • tbaby90 SHIP 02 DIV 910

Ok thanks! He was at NAS before corry and they made him take "leave" for the weekend even though he didnt miss any class.. I guess things are BETTER and different at corry station ! ha

  • Craig

My nephew learned a valuable lesson.  He took the last flight from Denver to Pensacola.  It ended up having a mechanical.  The next flight was the next day and he would have been UA from school.  He ended up taking a flight to Atlanta, then to Panama City (about 90 miles south of Pensacola).  He got a taxi to make a deal with him, $175 from Panama City to Pensacola, he ended up getting back on time.

He started to complain, I told him $175 was cheap compared to  Captain's Mast which would have took 1/2 months pay for 2 months.  He then shut up because he knew I was correct....

  • sunshine73

Craig, my son is about 30 minutes from landing from leave. He was supposed to be home yesterday at this time. His flight got cancelled last night in Charlotte due to the air not working properly in 1st class. He ended up having to get a room last night and take the 1st available to Hawaii today. If he hadn't given himself and extra day, he would have been in trouble. Good lesson. Airlines....

  • kcowdin

Congratulations to your sailor! CTI? I know what the ESWS is, what is IDW?
