    Hi all,

Planning a visit to our sailor son who is at Corry Station.  Any help on places to stay near the beach?  He mentoned Perdido Key?  Help is appreciated.  Arriving there on July 12.  thanks so much N4M!

  • sunshine73

Hi, We visted our son 4 times while he was at Corry. I'll be happy to answer any questions.  We stayed at a condo in Perdido twice.  http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/florida/north-west/main-no...  was were we found them. We stayed in the 2 bedroom with the big crab on the wall. The company gave us a discount in addition to the price listed. They gave us extras like dvds to rent and all. It is only a few minutes from Corry and even closer to the NAS back gate. We also stayed in a condo at P'cola Beach. That beach is prettier but also a lot more expensive. It is also further away. This place was nice, clean and very reasonable http://www.highseasinn.com

Lady H - The ESWS has a lot more meaning. Most don't know that by getting that, you qualified at each station on the ship. It doesn't mean you know everything, but you can fill in and defend the ship better than someone that doesn't have one. This paid off real well when Iraq fire a missile which struck the USS Stark. It killed and wounded a bunch of sailors, but the ship maintained its battle readiness. If it weren't for sailors being ESWS qualified, we'd be screwed!

Sunshine--Thanks so much for your info.  Got everything booked last night.  Staying on Pensacola Beach.  Didn't have enough lead time to do a condo, but hopefully the hotel we are staying in will be great.  I will report back after our trip.  As usual N4M came through!  Thanks again!

Hi Everyone ! My son has a tentative graduation date of July 26th for CTR. I'm unable to attend his graduation and wondered if anyone else on this site would be attending and could get a photo or two for me ? I would really appreciate it. Very sad to not be there.

  • Arkansas Mom ship02 div948

Thank you so much, singingbird ! I'm hoping he will be able to have some time at home before he goes to his next station. They have filled out the "wish" list but my son said he had no idea if it plays any role in where they are actually sent. He is hoping for Colorado, but he said he'd heard it wasn't easy to be chosen to go to this location.. Anyone know if that is true? He's also hoping to be able to go to C school, but he'd heard they have several that are waiting to start classes.

  • Arkansas Mom ship02 div948

Thanks for all the info, singingbird !  Yes, the Navy will send you where they need you to go.  I'm glad your son is doing well and likes being where he is. What is communication like with you when they are on a ship? mostly emails ?

  • tbaby90 SHIP 02 DIV 910

Hey guys! I am wondering if any of you know what time and what day of the week CTR's "A" school graduation is? Also, did any of our sailors graduation date change on them?

  • sunshine73

Hi, My son's graduation was at 9am on a Friday in the Chapel on base. That was 2 years ago though so it might have changed. :)

  • Treymom321

Any info on "C" school in Texas?  My son just got verbal orders and will be doing this before his first duty station.  thanks.

  • Marcy

Hi everyone, I have not been on this on this one in a very long time. My son has been in for 6 years now and has reelisted last Friday. He is stationed in Hawaii. He will be going to  Australia next. I am so proud of him and wished I could have been there for his reenlistment. He will do another "C" school next month too for 5 months in P-Cola.

Just wanted to stop in and say  hello too

  • DocRenee

Marcy, congrats to your son and to you too as a proud mom! Your son is serving our country and also seeing the world. What an honor!

  • Justine.Benjamin21

I need someone who is a CTR or knows a lot about the field/ Current Enlisted Navy member to message me please. It's important

  • boilermom

Treymom321-  My son went to C school at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo TX.  I don't know of any others in TX.  He is now in Japan at Misawa AFB.

  • Craig

Thanks Lady H.... I wonder if her question went away....?
  • shirleyann

Hello everyone--I'm late joining the group--My son has been at Corry since the first of July and will graduate in October from CTR--he is hoping C schools will be classing up about then so he can stay for a bit--you're right--they can end up anywhere--that is what he is telling me.  He is fortunate to have friends from his PIR division still with him in different aspects of IT.  Craig--how is that challenge coin design going?

  • shirleyann

I'll have to ask my son about this--he might have been there...

  • shirleyann

Lady H--my son may be in the class

  • photomom CTN/AO

Question: My CTN will be graduating next week from A School. Her orders are for Lackland AF Base in San Antonio. Does anyone have any useful info regarding this base and CTNs?
  • Craig

Photomom - It's not really Lacklack, it's called Medina Texas.  It's is actually on the old section of Lackland AFB.

  • Craig

    Forgot to add,

    Just Google search "NIOC MEDINA"

  • photomom CTN/AO

Thanks Craig. I am going to share the pics with my daughter. Another quick quedtion: Do CTNs fresh out of A School get sponsers? My daughter said no one in her class got one!
  • navymom3

fracom21 my son is a CTM and he has not said anything about being consolidated/ Maybe Craig has some inside info>

  • proudmom

photomom my son finished CTN school in Pcola last October and he had a sponsor for his next station. Another mom had told me to tell him to ask for one, I think that is what he did, so maybe suggest to your daughter to ask for one as well.
  • photomom CTN/AO

Thanks proudmom. When I spoke with her Saturday she said she was going too ask.
  • photomom CTN/AO

Proudmom, she asked about her sponsor and she got one. A female at that! She's talked with her a few times. My Sailor just got home fir leave sui we are going to enjoy our time!!!
  • Daisy13 Ship05

Newbie here, how long is A School in Pensacola and what is C school?

  • navymom3

Daisy it depends on what job your sailor will be doing. And C school is the same as a specialty school. Not everyone gets a C school right out of A school. They can also go to C school at anytime during there career in the Navy. My oldest has been in 7 years and will be doing another c school soon.

  • Daisy13 Ship05

navymom3 My SR will be a CTR.  I can't remember if she said A school is 3 or 4 months.

After A school will she be land-based or sea-based or could be either?  I think my SIL is expecting land-based for my niece.  I'm not sure she has considered sea-based.

  • navymom3

Here is a link to info on CTR they can be land or sea based.

    http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/enlisted/detailing/cryptoinfo...

  • Daisy13 Ship05

Thanks navymom3 that is very helpful.

  • shirleyann

Hi Daisy 13Ship02Div951--my son is a CTR.  6-28-13 was his PIR and he arrived in Pensacola on the 30th--it took him a little over a week to class up and he will be graduating from A school around October 18--he thinks many of them will be going to ships

  • Daisy13 Ship05

shirleyann  is there a graduation ceremony for A school to go to?

  • shirleyann

My son said yes but not to bother to come because as he understands it they will be giving them certificates of completion and orders--very few graduate at a time with their rate--and it will be in a small room--that is the last he told me--he is fairly certain he will be allowed to come home after graduation and since his dad can't travel that is what we plan to do.  It might be different for your daughter--she will have a better idea in a few weeks of what is going on.  I'll check with mine to see if they have contact with the new CTR's and have him introduce her  to some of the others--not many females in that rate that I've heard of--he only has one in his class and she if cross training from the army...

  • Daisy13 Ship05

shirleyann  I'm on here for my niece, not my daughter, but I love her and proud of her just the same.  Trying to get all the info I can to pass on to my SIL and brother.  They aren't quite tech savvy for all of this.

My SR is still in BC and won't PIR until 11/1 and report to Pensacola on 11/2.  Sounds like your son will be gone by then.  I know she was proud of the fact there aren't many women in her field.

I also have my husband's cousin's son who is SR in BC now with PIR 9/20 heading to Pensacola as a CTI.  My husband and I are part of 2 proud Navy families right now.

  • navymom3

They do there graduation in the Chapel at Corry. There are usually several classes that grad at the same time. It is pretty short but would not have missed it since we live 5 hrs away. It is more personable than PIR. They will stop and let you take pictures. All you have to do is stand. Not a lot of family there though. They do announce everyone by name though and they come up 1 at a time until the whole class is up there. Then they let you take pics of the whole class.

  • Marcy

Navymom3 congrats to your son. Mine is currently doing his second "C" school.
  • shirleyann

Daisy--super--okay--doing this and homework at the same time!  maybe they can all be together as they travel the world.  My nephew is stationed in SD now--he has been navy for over 10 years--also have two marines in the family--one is in SD also so they are hoping my son gets stationed there--my son has friends that will be staying longer at Corry--different rates--different school lengths...

  • MissingMonkey

Anyone have a son or daughter in CA for A school, as a CTI? Just curious about it, that's where my son will be going in about 5 wks. Good excuse for us to travel to CA and visit-hopefully!

    Thanks ladies!

  • sunshine73

We enjoyed our sailors A school graduation. I agree with Navymom3 very personable. They even served coffee and doughnuts. ;)

  • luckymomx4

@MissingMonkey, my SR will be going to Monterey, CA for A school. His PIR is 10/4. We are lucky to live about a 4 hour drive from there. He is also CTI.
  • Craig

Yes, you guys will see that there are two groups that specialize in CTN and CTI.  Just click the link above in the discussion area.

  • shirleyann

Sailor just messaged that he has orders for C school in Texas--he thought several of them were headed there--Craig--would you know which base???Lakeland???

  • shirleyann

paula3boys--what is your son's rate--wonder if he knows mine...

  • Shannonlf

My sons PIR is 10/4/13. With his training at A school coming soon what kind of timeline to class up for CTM's at Corey station can be expected?
  • navymom3

Shannonlf my son is CTM. He is already done with school but was in Pcola about 9 months which included a c school. A CTM will first go to NAS Pcola for a pre class called ATT a basic electronics class. Once completed they will move to Corry for there actual A school class for CTM. There are usually a wait time before each class starts. Sometimes it is more than others. But they keep them busy while they wait. Normally cleaning and painting. Mine waited 6 weeks before his first class. Then 3 weeks before the CTM class and another 5 weeks before C school started. If they have an opportunity for volunteer work tell him to do it. They get credit for the hours and get out of cleaning. Good luck to your son. My son and his fiance love being a CTM. Yes they are both CTM.

  • harpist mom

Shannon, My son graduated from BC on March 9, 2012, and went to NAS at Pcola, just as navymom3 said. My son did not begin that basic electronics class until the end of May. He had an office job until then and also volunteered. He completed the electronics class around the first of July but had to wait until the end of August to go to Corry because the A school class filled up. The class roster was cut based on the alphabetical order of last names. Since his last name begins with a letter at the end of the alphabet he missed out on the class immediately following the introductory class. He began A school in August and graduated at the first of November. He is now on duty in Hawaii as a CTM.

  • napstersmom

I mentioned to my son that if he volunteers it would get him out of cleaning and give him credit for something. He said if you volunteer 100 hours a year for like 3 years, you get a ribbon and it looks good on your record. It doesn't get you out of cleaning though. He said he'd volunteer every day if it did that!
  • navymom3

It depends on what they volunteer for. Mine volunteered to work at the USO on base. He got to bake cookies and cupcakes. And where civilian clothes before anyone else. He loved it since he likes to cook. I am sure he still had to clean up after he was done cooking. LOL Since friend got to work at the museum helping restore a plane.

  • navymom3

Mine is now stationed in Japan.
