Is there a facebook group for those in CTR or at Pensacola?

  • Bookster

maybe that is why this group is so quiet?

  • swimmom

what is the facebook page called?

  • CryptoDad

  • swimmom

Thank you for posting the facebook page.  My son is waiting for his orders to go to Pensacola.

  • BrownEyedMomma

Well there are definitely a few of us on this site who are parents of CT's, whether they are going to Pensacola or Monterrey, whether they are CTI, CTR, CTM, CTN, or CTT we can keep this group going. Even if we are a bunch of newbies who don't know much.
  • Bookster

Well I like that everything that is posted is very clear direct information.  I appreciate everybody who takes the time to answer our questions :))

  • Bookster

My son has decided he would love to become a SEAL.  He has talked with his supervisors(chiefs) and he has been advised to do the CTM job for at least a year before he puts in his paperwork for seals.  That would mean going back to bootcamp.  I support him no matter what he wants.  I really hope he enjoys his CTM position enough to just stick to that.  He is one week into A school so still has a while to finish that.

  • harpist mom

My son has been a CTM for 3 1/2 years and seems to like it. He is currently on deployment.

  • proudmom

Bookster don't worry about it. My son wanted to be a seal and then kept changing his mind. He is a CTN and was at Pcola in 2012. He has learned about so many other opportunities since then he doesn't even think about being a seal anymore.
  • navymom3

My son is also CTM. He has been in for 4 1/2 years now and likes it very much. He spend his first 3 years in Japan now he is in San Diego. He has made some great contacts for why he does decide to get out. But he still has another 2 years.

  • Momof9

So glad to see this group reviving. I have a CTR (hopefully) :o) in bootcamp.

  • BrownEyedMomma

My SR is set to be a CTI but she just wrote in her last letter that the RDC told them about the earthquake and that the Navy had sent in Coremen and MA's to help with survivors.  She said she could see herself doing that, but I don't imagine they send the CTI's in for rescue efforts all that often.  And her training is almost 2 years so I can't imagine it is all that easy to switch ratings after that.  Oh well.  Still proud.

     Bookster,

The Navy Special Warfare Command (NAVSPECWARCOM) does have need of Tactical Information Operators (TIO) drawn from the ratings of CTR, CTI, CTN & CTT. These CTs can work directly with SEAL and SWCC units to provide a wide variety of tactical information operations support including electronic warfare and select computer network operations. Guys can find themselves in ground combat situations and get training in tactical and crew served weapons. Women can serve as Tactical Information Operations analysts (TIOA) outside the hot zones.

So, if your CT wants to hang out with snake eaters there is a backdoor into the Special Ops world.

All that is GREAT to hear, thank you!

CryptoDad- thank you for that information.

  • Momof9

Very good to know CryptoDad. I have a CTR.

JCB's mom my CTR will be graduating just a week ahead of yours. I bet they will be at P'cola together for A school! :O)

  • navymom3

Mom of3 I don't see your discussion but it depends on his command. My son was allowed to go to Jacksonville when he was at Corry but he still had to get an out of bounds Chit. We are about 285 miles away. All your sailor can do is apply and see if they approve it.

  • Momof9

Yay JCB's mom! I can't believe I only have 3 more weeks until he will be able to call when he wants for the most part. I have so much to do!!!!!!!!!!! I need to make his banner, our PIR ribbons, purchase his graduation gift, plus all of our things going on here at home. Wow! The time is going to fly. So thankful!

  • Momof9

JCB's mom you know that means that you only have 4 weeks left!!!

  • bandmom13

My son is leaving in about 3 weeks, is there anything we should do? He said he signed up for the Navy banking at his recruiters, but I don't know what else we should do? Any of the moms that have been there have any ideas?

  • CryptoDad

  • Momof9

JCBsmom, you are doing awesome. I have none of the below done. I am not sure if I will do a door banner. I didn't know how or if that would conflict with security but thought I would put one together for inside our hotel room. I went to look for ribbon to make our ribbons and the day we went they were out. So I will need to make another stop for that. I know what you mean about the time flying by. I have so much to do! So glad it is helping to keep my mind off the limited contact right here at the end since we probably won't here anything until the I'm a sailor call. His sister did get a letter saying he loved his live fire experience and passed one of his most important inspections. He isn't going home he said! Yay! Good to hear from you and thank you for the inspiration to get in gear and get all my PIR tasks done! (:
  • 1 Proud Mom

My son just arrived in Pensacola for A school.  It is exciting being a part of this journey with him.  Love the fact we can talk daily after RTC!!

  • Bookster

Hello 1 Proud Mom, my son has been in Pensacola since November 27. He is about half way through A school and we are waiting to know where he will be stationed afterwards.

  • TwoForTheNavy

Hi any mom's with their CTR's stationed in Maryland on the Army base?
  • HealthHopeHappiness

I have a few questions. My SR spoke with his recruiter today - last meeting before he leaves for boot camp. But a few things came up. Recruiter said SR will have 2-3 weeks of living in barracks in Monterey when he gets there. Any married spouses experience this? And for the move, they said they won't pay for this move for a-school to Monterey. I'm just confused by all this since we've never done this before so any advice is greatly appreciated.
  • JHubby

    Hey HealthHopeHappiness,

I've been in Monterey for over a month now. Don't expect much help from Command about spouse things. They do have to phase through two phases. Phase 1 takes two weeks and phase 2 takes two weeks. They must stay in the barracks until they reach Phase 3. What language is your SR taking? Each language has a different time requirement and that's what determines PCS/TDY orders. DoD will pay for a PCS move. You can private message me if you need more info, which you will. I had to figure all of this out on my own and it was extremely stressful, so I'd love to help ease your transition!!

Quick question--how long does it generally take to class up for JCAC? *Also: From my limited knowledge, that means from the time they get there to when their actual training starts, correct? Thanks!

  • harpist mom

My son waited almost 3 months to class up after arriving in P-cola from boot camp. He is now a CTM.

  • sourpatchkid

Clockard, thank you. I'm a member of that group, too :)

  • deputydawgofduke

SR in bootcamp now.  PIR 07/17 then to Pensacola  for A school for CTM.   Can anyone tell me how long that is for?  Months?  Thanks

  • CryptoDad

  • deputydawgofduke

    Thank you CryptoDad.

  • Bookster

@deputydawgofduke- My son is CTM and is graduating from Pensacola tomorrow then he is being sent to San Diego.  He had previously been told Georgia (verbals), today he got it in writing that it is San Diego. He arrived to Pensacola November the 27th and did not start ATT (am I saying that right CryptoDad?) school until February, when he finished that he started A school and that is what he is finishing up this week.  He said he would not be moving on to San Diego until about a month so apparently he will have some time between now and then to do what exactly I have no clue.

  • deputydawgofduke

Bookster,   thank you so much for the information.   So A school is roughly 3 months?  It sounds like your son had to wait for enough people/sailors to start a class.  Has he been happy with the  CTM program?    Thanks again

  • harpist mom

Hi Deputy, My son's PIR was early March 2012. He left for Pensacola immediately afterwards but did not class up until the end of May. He had various jobs until his first class, the basic electronics class, began. He completed that class about four weeks later, but the next class filled up and he was unable to start until mid-August. (they went alphabetically by last name and his is at the end of the alphabet) He completed A School by the end of October and shipped out to Pearl Harbor around the first part of December. He is now currently deployed on a destroyer on an eight-month deployment. He seems relatively happy with the CTM job.

  • deputydawgofduke

Thank you so much.   Very helpful.  Thanks

  • Rita

  • Rita

  • Tammy66

Hi there!  My daughter arrived at BC on Thursday.  She is also a CTT.

  • Stephanie (Trents proud mother)

My son arrived at BC 7/8/15 he is CTI

  • Zman'smom

My son is still overseas waiting for his clearance to go through. That process started last fall and his orders were up at the beginning of this year. Hurry up and wait! He's definitely getting a lesson in patience. Luckily, I got to visit him last fall, but he hasn't been home in 2 1/2 yrs. I know it's different since he's not going to A school straight out of boot camp. Anyone else waiting??
  • AmyMatt1214

Tammy66...my son arrived at boot camp on the 9th also and he is a CTT too...maybe they are together!
  • AmyMatt1214

Looks like there are several CTI's and CTT's in this group. That's great!!! Hopefully we will have a group of lifelong friends creating here.
  • Tammy66

AmyMatt1214 did you get your letter with his ship and division?  My daughter is Ship 12 Div 293.

  • AmyMatt1214

    I didn't get a letter yet!!!!
  • Tammy66

I'm sure it will come within the next couple of days!

  • AmyMatt1214

I hope so!! I hope they know each other...that would be so cool!
  • Stephanie (Trents proud mother)

My son is Ship 12 Division 293. CTI
  • Tammy66

Hi Stephanie! My daughter is in the same division!
