When would be the earliest our daughter would be allowed visitors once arriving to Nuke school? She arrives on a Saturday. Any chance she gets that Sunday off? Would we be able to show our support by helping to get her settled?
They do have liberty on Sunday, but very little time for anything as they process in. She will also be exhausted, our daughter had basically been up for 2 days by the time she got to Goose Creek. I would suggest waiting until she phases up.
Your sailor will have a pretty structured time until the weekends and until she phases up. Our sailor arrived on Saturday, but spent that first weekend getting acclimated and learning his surroundings.
Sailors are required to do a certain number of watches before the class group can phase up and it would be good for her to stay busy in this time before classes start to get her watches out of the way and to get comfortable about how to move around the base. Also there will be mandatory inspections which all have an impact on how quickly the class will phase up so learning how to balance military and the class schedule takes a bit of time.
Once classes start they have a very focused schedule which includes mandatory study hours (even on the weekends) along with mandatory PT, and by the time they phase up the sailors seem to have a better handle on how to work their schedule.
Hi Nat's Mom - as others have said your daughter won't have a lot of time when she arrives as she'll be busy getting settled in - you should probably wait until she phases up. If you look on the Nuke Mom's page there is a discussion on the right hand side - under the member profiles "Your Sailors Schedule Upon Arrival to GC". This will give you an idea of the time frame of what's going on. Also, the Nuke Moms page is more active than this group - you'll got more answers over there! Come on over there and post :)
