General advice fora new sub mom?

Sailor just got his orders, is excited he got assigned to a sub. Was wondering about "comfort" items..... rack packs? Sheets ? Organizers? What did yoursailor most appreciate having with him on the sub?

I appreciate any suggestions!

Since the space they have is about that of a shallow kitchen drawer and as a new sailor they mak be hot racking, sharing 1 berth where they alternate who gets to sleep and who is on shift. Space is at a premium.
I had made fitted sheets for my husband but you need to get the dimensions of their rack.
Best advice, send nothing but cookies and bags of candy. While underway it's a great commodity for barter. Home Made cookies are golden!

Llmom small quantities of foods are always good as mentioned but as far as sheets go I'd hold off until he gets to his command. Some commanders are more strict about those types of things. Once he's earned his Dolphins, small electronics such as IPads, game boys are nice to have for long underways and deployments. Again every command is different. Is your son assigned to a fast attack or boomer and where will be be headed?
