I posted this query in another group, but maybe this is a better place. I'll start with saying i do not know any alphabet soup terms...
My son is a senior, graduating in the spring from his university and ROTC program. I am wondering what is next after graduation, and the timeline for June onward.
Any input you can give me is appreciated.

Hi Claire24,
Our youngest son went the ROTC route. After graduation, probably the same day, there will be a ceremony for commissioning. Usually the student will select someone to give his first salute as an active duty officer. In our son's case, he chose the submariner route. He had 2 schools before he got his actual first assignment. Depending on the schools, the times are different. Hope this was a little helpful.

Claire24,
Your son really won't know when he must report to his next school until he gets his orders. He should have them before graduation. The various schools (flight, nuke, surface warfare, etc.) don't necessarily start immediately after college graduation. Sometimes the Navy has them work in a recruiting office for a few weeks until their next school starts.
He won't be able to make any plans for immediately after college graduation until he gets those orders. He may have to report immediately (within a day or two) to his next school ----or not.
My son was commissioned out of Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI instead of ROTC. His orders didn't come in until the day before OCS graduation!!!! He knew what school he would be attending, but didn't know WHEN. Turned out he had three weeks to report, so he had time to go home and gather his belongings.
Good luck to your son!

Claire24,
M's mom gave good info. Until he gets his orders he won't know when he has to report or where he will report next. My daughter graduated OCS just after M's mom son and she had enough time to drive to Ohio from RI to drop off her best friend who attended her commissioning, and then she had to head to Pensacola for flight training.
